Former nurse now linked to 17 nursing home deaths​


A former Pennsylvania nurse who, in May, had been accused of killing two patients with doses of insulin now faces more murder charges and has confessed to trying to kill 19 additional people at several locations, authorities said Thursday.

Heather Pressdee, 41, is accused of administering excessive amounts of insulin to patients in her care, some of whom were diabetic and required insulin, and some of whom were not, according to the Pennsylvania Attorney General’s Office.

Russia Freed ‘Satanic Cult Killer’ From Prison to Slaughter Ukrainians​

A Russian man sentenced to 20 years in a maximum security prison for the ritualistic killing of four teenagers got a get-out-of-jail-free card after a stint in the war against Ukraine.

Nikolai Ogolobyak, 33, was meant to remain behind bars until 2030 for his role in what Yaroslavl authorities described as a satanic cult: He and several other members were accused of murdering four teenagers in 2008 during two separate “rituals.” Convicted and sentenced in 2010, Ogolobyak received the harshest sentence, as he was the only member of the group who was of legal age at the time of the murders.

But Ogolobyak is already back home after receiving a pardon to go fight in Ukraine.

Ogolobyak’s father confirmed to local media that his son had spent six months in the Russian Defense Ministry’s “Storm Z” unit, a Wagner-inspired army unit made up of convicts freed from prison to keep the war afloat.

“After being wounded, he’s disabled,” Ogolobyak’s father [said], adding that his son returned from the hospital on Nov. 2. “He’s walking, but the wound was severe. He is not working right now, just recovering.”

Ogolobyak was described by prosecutors during the trial as the “warrior” of the group who initiated the murders by first attacking the victims. The first two to fall prey were Olga Pukhova and Anya Gorokhova, two goth teenagers who met members of the alleged cult at school. While hanging out with the alleged Satanists one night, the girls were fed booze and lured into a forest once they were sufficiently drunk, where they were attacked with daggers, dismembered, and their hearts and tongues supposedly removed and eaten. Prosecutors said members of the “cult” posed for photographs with the girls’ dismembered heads, and one of their girlfriends allegedly “bathed” in the blood of the victims.

The group then allegedly used a similar scenario to kill another young couple, with prosecutors claiming Ogolobyak had “counted the blows out loud” as the man, Andrei Sorokin, was stabbed. “He counted until he hit 666,” prosecutor Yelena Smirnova was quoted saying.

All the victims were dismembered, and their remains buried in a wooded area.

Don't know how effective the mayor's message would be. A little tone deaf if you ask me, as "the gunman opened fire on the group of homeless people". Sarcasm is definitely my tone.

Los Angeles police announced Saturday that a suspect has been identified in connection with the killings of three homeless men this week.

The suspect, Jerrid Joseph Powell, 33, was already in custody after having been arrested in the killing of a county employee earlier in the week.

Powell was arrested Thursday and accused of shooting and killing a San Dimas, California, father of two during a follow-home robbery Tuesday.

Police Chief Michel Moore said Saturday that police were able to match Powell's car, seen in security video from the killing Tuesday, to the car they had identified as being driven by the suspect believed to be responsible for killing the three homeless people.

I thought that too although she was speaking of the killings in Los Angeles which had been of individuals. The comment may have been made before the spree shooting in Las Vegas.

Update

A 33-year-old man was charged Monday with four counts of murder in connection with a spate of shootings in the Los Angeles area that left three homeless men dead.

Los Angeles County District Attorney George Gascón said his office had charged Jerrid Joseph Powell with the killings after he was arrested in a separate fatal shooting of a San Dimas man during a robbery.

Authorities say Powell began attacking homeless men in the city on Nov. 26, shooting a 37-year-old man who was sleeping on a couch on the street. Powell is also accused of shooting a 62-year-old man a day later who was pushing a shopping cart. And on Nov. 29, Powell allegedly shot a 52-year-old man early in the morning.

Los Angeles Police Chief Michel Moore said officials had not identified a motive in the killings, according to the Los Angeles Times. But Moore described a video of one of the victims being killed as “bone-chilling,” saying the gunman gave no warning before opening fire.

She's in court again.

The ex-wife of a serial killer has apologised for the death of a British student who was kidnapped and murdered.

Joanna Parrish from Gloucestershire was 20 when she was kidnapped from Auxerre in 1990.

Monique Olivier, who is already serving a life sentence, is in court over her death, alongside another murder and kidnap. Olivier added that she regretted not intervening in Ms Parrish's death saying she "deserved to live". Her ex-husband Michel Fourniret died in prison in 2021.

Ms Parrish's parents, Roger Parrish and Pauline Murrell, were not in court to hear Olivier's apology.

He was, of course, thrown into the national spotlight after police discovered his son's gruesome crimes in Milwaukee in 1991.

I can't help but suggest that this is a member of the Weaseley family, whose defence will be that they're suffering a more mystical form of PTSD after the Mage War against He Who Shall Not Be Named. Now here's a pitch for a grown-up HP sequel: cross it with Hannibal Lecter (who of course is a Slytherin graduate) and see where it goes.
 
Watched a true crime documentary about a spree shooter called Barry Prudom - Manhunt: Search for The Cop Killer - because it featured Old Malton and the Dalby Forest; both local to me. It was fascinating yet didn't actually give the background story, trigger or motives for his attacks. A brief Wikipedia search gave me far more details.
I've seen that the documentary I saw was from 2023 and one of two made - the other being Manhunt: Phantom of The Forest (2002). I'm interested to watch that 'un to see if they include the lead-up to the shootings.

Musa Musasizi was sentenced on Wednesday after pleading guilty to the murder of three women said to be his girlfriends and a three-month-old girl who was the child of one of his victims.

He reportedly pursued romantic relationships with the women before sexually assaulting and killing them, then burning and disposing of their bodies, the court heard.

Justice Margaret Mutonyi said the long sentence was necessary to protect young women, including Musasizi's six-year-old daughter, the privately-owned NTV channel reported.

Musasizi had been arrested in March 2021 on suspicion of killing five women and an infant.

The article states that he's been convicted of one murder. Perhaps the others haven't come to trial.

Perhaps the confession to multiple murders was a factor in his 105 year conviction.

The news item i states: Musa Musasizi was sentenced on Wednesday after pleading guilty to the murder of three women said to be his girlfriends and a three-month-old girl who was the child of one of his victims.

So the other murders could have been taken into consideration. Even with remission he'll serve 70 years,

(1) Convicted criminal prisoners sentenced to imprisonment whether by one sentence or consecutive sentences for a period exceeding one month, may by industry and good conduct earn a remission of one-third of the remaining period of their sentence or sentences.

An Italian court has given a Pakistani couple life sentences for killing their 18-year-old daughter because she refused an arranged marriage.

Saman Abbas's body was found at a farmhouse in northern Italy in November 2022, 18 months after she disappeared. Her father, Shabbar Abbas, was arrested in Pakistan and extradited to be tried for her murder in August. Her mother, Nazia Shaheen, was convicted in her absence. She is believed to be in hiding in Pakistan.

Shabbar Abbas had earlier made an impassioned plea to the court, asserting that "never in my life did I think of killing my daughter".

The teenager's uncle, Danish Hasnain, was given 14 years in jail for involvement in the murder, but two of her cousins were cleared.

Saman Abbas's so-called honour killing by her family in late April 2021 shocked Italy. Following her disappearance, Italy's union of Islamic communities issued a fatwa - a religious ruling - rejecting forced marriages.

The teenager had emigrated with her family from Pakistan to the farm town of Novellara in 2016, according to Italian reports. She began dating a young man of Pakistani origin, and a photograph of them kissing on a street in the regional capital, Bologna, reportedly drew the fury of her parents.

Italian investigators said Saman Abbas's parents had wanted her to travel to Pakistan for an arranged marriage in 2020, but she refused. She then lived for several months under the protection of social services from October that year, but returned to the family home in Novellara in late April 2021 in response to a flurry of messages from her family, Italian reports said.

Prosecutors said she had been tricked into returning home and it was at this point she disappeared.

Following a spate of suicides on part of the underground network the police finally assumed that they had a compulsive pusher and eventually arrested Kieran Kelly. It was thought that Kelly pushed a number of people to their deaths then calmly waited for the police to arrive and became a witness to their “suicides”. It was suspected that Kelly’s first victim was his best friend who he murdered in 1953, his last was a cell mate who he killed in 1983 for snoring.

There was an ex-copper who pushed this hypothesis on a website and everywhere else he could. It seemed quite persuasive, though his statistics were disputed.

A student and a canal can be fatal combination, without need of a third party. It happened to a member of my own extended family, though not here in Manchester! They originally speculated he had been pushed as a prank and that the truth would surface, when someone's conscience did. It still could, I suppose, but the banal canal-piss explanation has, so far, prevailed with them. Not that it helps. :(

Shades of 'the smiley face killer' (not to be confused with the 'happy face killer', Keith Hunter Jesperson). A couple of retired detectives drew a link between several drowning deaths, and graffitoed :) smiley faces, claiming a killer had been pushing young guys into water when they were drunk. Critics claim it's just coincidence, drunk young men do fall into water when urinating, and the smiley face is a common graffiti symbol.

This has also been discussed in this thread: People Who Just Dissapear (Go Missing) - page 34.

There's a fair amount of scepticism about this theory but I think there is some merit in the idea. I have no doubt a great deal of these deaths are accidental but there's something about it that I just can't shake. If you see my post in that thread, you'll notice I mention a cyclist who claims he was pushed into a canal, and it sounds like the person who did it very much intended to kill him. I have no reason to doubt him but it could also be a one-off, so who knows?

Do we have a thread on these types of deaths? I feel like there's enough discussion/speculation to warrant a separate thread. Although from what I've heard of the supposed 'smiley face killers' I wouldn't necessarily put it under that umbrella.
