Garner had a mental breakdown during the filming of the book and, IIRC, smacked the living daylights out of one of the actors. (Actually, thinking about it, I suppose beating up actors is perfectly understandable behaviour and not necessarily a sympton of mental disturbance).

Now why didn't they film that and keep it in the TV series? It would have livened things up a bit!
