Found on a legal advice forum on reddit, a pregnant, childless Indiana woman is worried about a 'DCS agent', then finds out Indiana DCS never investigates childless women, even if pregnant. (She seems legit to me- but could be a hoax I guess)

I thought this was an exclusively UK thing? Anyone know of anyone arrested in cases like this? what they're trying to achieve?

I saw those reddit posts when they were new, I think that was the first I had ever heard of someone impersonating a social worker. My guesses are it's a long con to find where this family keeps their valuables in order to rob them while they're gone (possibly while the mother is going into labor, pretty safe to assume the house will be uninhabited for hours if not a day or two while that's happening) or it's one of those really messed up cases where the baby ends up being snatched.

AFAIK there's never been a single verified case of a bogus social worker in the UK, so no arrests.

That's strange in itself as there's nothing impossible about impersonating a social worker, whatever the reasons are, so someone must have had a go at it. But they never get caught.

I swear I recall, post-Hurricane Matthew, that someone was caught/being sought after for robbing houses while claiming to be checking for damage.

but Florida has had situations with people trying to scam the elderly by impersonating some branch of state gov't or other. Not quite the same though.
