Why even bring other religious beliefs into a thread on atheism? It only extends the range and scope of religious intolerance from others which atheists try their best to sidestep. I don’t see many people discussing fundamentalism and Biblical threatenings of other religions on discussions of other subjects like bakery, weaving, pole vaulting or fishing for example. These are similar in that they continuously fail to mention God at the centre of their existence.
Atheism is not the opposite of religion as some would believe so it shouldn’t be dragged into religious debate. Just let the religious people hate each other and give them somewhere far, far away to fight among themselves.

Because people tend to think of atheism as a disbelief in God(s).
Personally, I don't think atheism is a religion but shares some characteristics of religion.

Atheism is a single position in the god question. There are atheistic religions. Atheism isn't a religion itself.
