I read the threads over on Mumsnet where parents are tying themselves in knots to accommodate their neurodivergent children. I grew up undiagnosed, largely misunderstood and thought of as weird, back in the day when there were 'good' children and 'naughty' children (otherwise known as 'kids who just needed a good smack'.) Yes, things could have been made easier for me if my parents had known, but in some ways I'm glad I've forged my own path as the 'slightly batty, peculiar girl', rather than had everyone make allowances for me at every turn.
