Cruelty To Animals

Another tiger story -

Man arrested after trying to sell tiger cub on social media

Carlos Castro Alcaraz, 25, was arrested by undercover Phoenix Police Department officers after he set up a deal to sell the tiger cub to them on social media.

Police were notified of the big cat after another user saw the posting and contacted them.

Albuquerque Police Sgt Brian Bower told reporters they were initially skeptical if the social media post was real or not. So police decided to pose as buyers and see if the seller would respond.

The undercover officers contacted Alcaraz and bartered with him, getting him to knock $5,000 off his original asking price.

After the deal was set, police served a search warrant and found the cub in a dog crate in Alcaraz’s closet.
‘It had a sandal inside their cage – it looked like it was their chew toy,’ Bower said.

Behind the tiger crate, officers also spotted a large aquarium tank full of baby snapping turtles and a single baby alligator. Both species are also illegal to own without a proper license in Arizona.

Alcaraz told police he bought the tiger one week earlier for $8,000 from another Phoenix resident who he claimed wasn’t taking care of it properly.

‘We don’t know if there’s a bigger ring for exotic animals, this is definitely just the tip of the iceberg,’ Bower said. ‘Our detectives will look into it and identify if there is a larger scheme behind this’

Alcaraz was charged with one count of possession of live wildlife and one count of fish and game violation.

Earlier this month, police in the neighboring state of New Mexico also found an illegally-owned tiger cub while investigating reports of a shooting.

The tiny 20-pound cub was being kept in a dog carrier inside a mobile home. It has since found a new home at the Albuquerque Zoo.

There’s estimated to be more than twice as many tigers in the USA as wild in India.

France's Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin said Friday he was "particularly shocked" after a train departing a busy Paris station appeared to deliberately run over a domestic cat.

Passengers Georgia and her 15-year-old daughter Melaina said their pet Neko escaped from its travel bag and disappeared under a high-speed train as they prepared to travel to Bordeaux.

After 20 minutes of trying to persuade staff to rescue it, the train departed, killing the cat.

He spoke after an animal rights group this week filed a complaint against national railway operator SNCF over the pet's death at the Montparnasse station on January 2.

"We saw him sliced in half," Melaina told animal rights association 30 Million Friends.
"They told us it wasn't their problem, that it was just a cat and that we should have had it on a leash."
Afterwards, the train company offered them a free ticket to Bordeaux, they said.

SNCF said it regretted the "tragic" incident, but that descending onto the tracks was strictly forbidden due to the risk of electrocution.

Leopard escapes cage and injures six people in six-hour rampage across city

Terrifying images show the leopard attacking a pedestrian on the street in broad daylight before scaling the walls of a nearby property

The big cat escaped from its cage at its owner’s home in the Pakistani capital of Islamabad.

As it made a run for it, the beast was seen leaping over a wall.

The creature then prowled the neighbourhood, attacking a number of locals and leaving them injured.

The leopard attack took place in the posh DHA Phase II neighbourhood.

After hours of tracking the leopard, Islamabad Wildlife Management Board workers managed to tranquilise it with a dart and take it to the Animal Rescue Centre at Islamabad Zoo.

Under the jurisdiction of the Sahala Police Station, an unnamed suspect has been booked under Sections 324 (attempt to commit murder) and 289 (negligent conduct with regard to animals) of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC).

Keeping wild animals such as leopards in private residences is illegal in the country.

Appalling savagery. Lest anyone suggest it was staged the British Hound Sports Association have already suspended the Cotswold Hunt. Foxes do cause problems for farmers and it is legitimate to shoot such animals which are preying on poultry etc. But there is no excuse for the barbarous practice of burying foxes alive or tossing them to hounds.

A hunt has been suspended over alleged illegal practices after a video emerged of a fox appearing to be found buried alive inside a bag.

Footage appears to show hunt saboteurs rescuing the fox from a man-made den before a hunt member calls hounds away on the Miserden Estate on 18 March.

The Cotswold Hunt has been suspended by the British Hound Sports Association (BHSA) which says it is investigating.

Gloucestershire Police has also confirmed that it is investigating.

The footage captured by the Cirencester Illegal Hunt Watch was first shown by Channel 4 News on Tuesday. The group has claimed the video shows the illegal practice of "fox-bagging" - where a fox is captured, trapped and then released for hounds to chase during a hunt.

Wildlife rescue experts were called to the scene and confirmed that the fox was a female, possibly lactating at the time of discovery. The bag it was found in was "sodden" with urine having possibly been trapped for many hours, the group said.

Gloucestershire Police rural crime team leader, Insp Simon Ellson, said: "We take all reports of illegal fox hunting very seriously.

"Our rural crime officers have gathered evidence in relation to this case and will pursue any offenders. If you see any rural crime in action please do contact police."

The allegations come just a month after Wiltshire-based Avon Vale Hunt was after footage appearing to show a fox being dug out of its den and thrown to hounds was posted online.

It has been illegal to hunt foxes in England since 2004 but hunts are permitted to simulate a chase by following a pre-laid scent, which is known as trail hunting.

A BHSA spokesperson said it has launched an immediate investigation following allegations being made against one of its member hunts.

"The seriousness of these allegations has resulted in the Cotswold Hunt being suspended from the BHSA whilst an investigation is conducted. ...

I would have gone with a "For fox sake!" instead.

This is a thread I don't normally browse, for the sake of my blood pressure. However, here's a cruel abuser who's been caught and stopped.

What intrigued me was the headline: he's a crocodile expert. Perhaps he'd've preferred to cosy up to those instead of dogs.
There wouldn't have been much left of him.

'Sadistic' British crocodile expert Adam Britton admits sexually abusing and killing dozens of dogs

A prominent British crocodile expert and academic has pleaded guilty to 56 charges of bestiality involving the rape, torture and killing of dogs.

Adam Britton tortured and exploited more than 42 dogs until his arrest in April 2022, Australian media reported.

The 51-year-old zoologist, based in Darwin, Australia, appeared at the Supreme Court of the Northern Territory (NT) on Monday where he admitted the charges - and also pleaded guilty to four counts of accessing and transmitting child abuse material.

Bitch Torvi is recovering from a vicious attack. "It will only get better," her owner believes. The champion dog from Zlaté Hory in Jesenice lost her beautiful show coat four months ago. An unknown perpetrator cut her hair. The female Afghan Hound has recovered and is even competing successfully again.

The breeder is convinced that her bitch was clipped by someone who knew the animal. He must have climbed over the fence into the garden.

"Afghan Hounds are very suspicious of strangers. I would say that envy and trying to hurt me from someone who came into contact with Torvi was behind it. But without proof, I wouldn't dare point the finger at anyone," admits Michaela Zrnečková.

Animal rights groups are horrified at islamic protestors throwing boxes of live mice, that had been spray-painted in Palestinian colours, into three McDonalds in Birmingham, whilst screaming obscenities against Israel.
Police managed to catch one perpetrator, but another remains on the run.
The fate of the poor mice hasn't been reported.

That’ll teach McDonald’s to unleash their killer mice on Gaza. Or something.

Even if the cat had been a stray this would be an appalling thing to do.

Russia's RZhD rail giant has apologised to the owners of a cat who died after being thrown off a company train by a conductor in freezing temperatures.

"We sincerely regret that the cat Twix died", the state-owned RZhD said, vowing to change its regulations.

Footage earlier emerged apparently showing the ginger-and-white cat being unceremoniously dumped into the snow in Kirov, east of Moscow, on 11 January. The train conductor is reported to have mistaken the male cat for a stray. This happened after the feline escaped from its travel crate, and was spotted by passengers walking through a carriage.

When the episode came to light, hundreds of volunteers started searching the railway station area in Kirov. The cat was eventually found dead on Saturday, and later identified by its owners. Some reports say Twix died from an animal bite and frostbite.

More than 70,000 people have now signed a petition calling for a criminal investigation to be opened against the female conductor, after local authorities refused to do so. A separate petition - signed by more than 200,000 - is asking for the female conductor, who has not been publicly identified, to be sacked.

One of Twix's owners told state media he intended to pursue the matter through the courts.

On Saturday, the RZhD said it was already implementing changes that would prohibit company conductors from "disembarking animals from trains". Instead, the company added, they would be handed to employees at railway stations, and animal protection groups would be called.

Humane Societies give small animals to a dealer. He feeds them to his reptiles:

Interesting ethics question since people feed live mice to snakes etc. anyway.
It is actually illegal in the UK and some other places to use vertebrates as live food; it's also dangerous as well as cruel, rats and mice can give snakes and lizards some really nasty bites that can be fatal, as they're confined together.

Although there are a few captive animals that just will not take dead foods, and I'm not aware of many prosecutions, it's something that really should be avoided.

when I went to Komodo it was common practice to buy a goat for the “dragons” which was fed to them live.
