Dog-Headed Men (Cynocephali)

It was just some side remark I saw somewhere. But imagine those giant babboons are still alive. And you were down in africa when you saw something that was big and hairy, had a snout with big fangs, but hands like a human. If I didn't know better I'd have guessed at half man half wolf.

Yikes, I've just been on the Living TV 'Most Haunted' site and read some personal accounts of apparitions.

One person reckons their family have been repeatedly visited by tall, black-cloaked figures with dog-like features, which speak to them and have even put a young child to bed!

Sounds very like the original dogheaded men.

OK, am I going mad or was there a second dog-headed man report posted here about the critters stalking the meanstreets of Manchester, or did I dream it? And can anyone remember who the author was of the missing message?

hexham heads:

didn't they conclude that part of the house had been built using some stones taken from a local ruined abbey? This had in turn brought this beastie to their door.
I too seem to remember being frightened by this story as a kid.

I seem to remember reading somewhere that those heads weren't very old; that they had been carved by a previous occupant of the house (that's not to deny the wierd stuff associated with the stones--in fact, to my mind, that makes it all the stranger). Anybody else remember hearing of this?I'd especially like to know more about the stones' maker.

... My son and his father both saw a man with a dog's head driving a van down the highstreet , they said it was so realistic it must have been some fancy animatronic mask . It was somewhere between a dobermann and a labrador in type and was brown . It was looking forward calmly , not trying to draw attention to himself . This was more than ten years ago .
Just recently there was something very like this on TV. It may have been an obit or a retirement piece on someone who (among other things) did some 'Candid camera' style stunts. One of these included a dog 'driving' a car - and it did get stopped by a cop! (It was a real dog!)

Did anyone else see this? Could it have been on a prog about animals working on TV?

PS There's currently an ad on TV where a dog drives off (or the car runs away downhill) while the owner was in a newsagents!

I thought there were several dog-headed men threads too, but only this one comes up on the search engine. Maybe they've been merged?

Was it an Old English Sheepdog? If so, I saw it too - I think it was on a tribute programme to "That's Life!".

Not yet, but they're on the list.

I once saw what I believe to be a dog headed man in Guildford about 3 years ago. He was kind of like a basset hound with long floppy ears.

He crossed my path a small distance infront of me so i only saw him from the side. I always put it down to imagination but now that others are reporting the same thin I wonder if it was real.

There was a music video from the late 90's (for the track "Around the world", by Daft Punk) which had a sequence like this. There was a man with a dog's head walking round a city listening to the song on a radio and going into shops. Not sure if it's the same thing though.

I'm having a deja vu attack - have I previously posted about Ronald Chetwynd-Hayes? Fantastic, horribly under-rated author, sadly now deceased. Many of his books and stories featured a group of dog-headed men, called 'The Pack'. They never speak and dress like MIB, travelling round in 'large black, box-like' car. Generally, they are in the employ of sinister conspiracies, acting as enforcers against those who have seen too much.

Funny thing about RCH; his writing is obviously taking the piss most of the time. Yet somehow, it has an oddly convincing edge. Since we now have dozens of sitings of Dog-Headed-Dudes here, I wish to make it plain that 'The Pack' are fictional and I in no way believe in their literal existence.

Woof.

So that Snoop Doggy Dog video wasn't a computer graphics trick, then?

Altho' not strictly dog-related, an American friend I had whilst at poly' many moons ago told me a pretty weird story that had been told to him by his girlfriend (who was of Native American descent). According to this story, her grandfather had seen and shot at several creatures that looked like wolves, only that they were walking on their hind legs. More distinct details escape me, but IIRC she did say that such creatures were part of the local Wisconsin folklore.

In yorkshire folklore, they were called leather heads, due to the fact that from a distance they looked like they were wearing leather flaps when it was actually their ears.
Always caused a nuisaince when they turned up, upsetting people and generally causing problems, my Grandfather used to tell me about them as a lad.

It was the video for Da Funk by daft punk.

Around the world was different groups(Breakdancers, robots, swimmers, skeletons )walking around some steps in time to the music in front of a seventies style disco screen. Same director though .........

Wow, not heard of this. Any more info on the Leather Heads? Were they specifically dog-headed? And what part of Yorkshire are we talking?

they used

to be seen mostly around the North Western side of Barnsley between Hoyland and Holmfith.
Also been mentioned in Penistone,Huddersfield, Glossop way.

Fascinating stuff, Crafty! I'm looking into dog-headed men at the moment, and didn't realise they "existed" right on my own doorstep.

Have you got any sources, or is this all word of mouth stuff? And did your Grandad tell you any more details?

More Music Videos

I remember another video with a dog-headed person in a lab coat walking around a laboratory, or something like that. I don't remember the artist. He was one of the Aphex Twin's associates, someone on that Rephlex label. I think it turned out that the dog was standing on a kids shoulders, or either on another dog's shoulders. It was a funny video, but still freaky seeing a dog's head popping out of a tall lab coat.

....

If it's the one i'm thinking of it's by Squarepusher. Yeah it was either Rephlex or Warp..

Featured a Japanese girl & her little doggie locked away in some loony bin & they hatch a mad-cap plan where the dog gets a mind-transplant with the sumo-warden in order to escape.. Real dog in this one but like you say, great video.. :)

YEah it is Squarepusher.. It's directed by Chris Cunningham - the same guy who does the Aphex Twin vids - like windowlicker etc..

What about that Datfpounk promo with the dogheaded guy moping around a night time New York city?

Datfpounk? Good lord, that'll teach me to post from work...
