This keeps popping up in the eBay adverts at the top of my browser:

The mystery object, looking somewhat like a fossilised heart, was apparently found on a muddy riverbank in Cornwall in the 90s.
Just have to keep my mouse cursor well away from the [Buy it now] button.

Its primary material is listed as 'porcelain/pottery'. I reckon it's an oil lamp made of local clay. The big hole is for filling and the smaller ones are for wicks.

Perhaps it had two wick holes because the second could be lit from the first on a long night, saving the user the trouble of looking for a fresh one in the dark?

We really need someone who knows what they're talking about. Y'know, like an archaeologist. :thought:
 
That's a brilliant identification. I just took it as read that it was a skull or at least something consisting of bone from a body, and so didn't think any deeper about the object.
