House Fire

That's a common effect when older houses of stone or brick wall construction burn. The walls remain, and everything they once enclosed is destroyed. The effect is amplified when the walls aren't affected by flames, making the whole structure a sort of stove or oven for the contents.

I've seen ruins of such old homes from which almost all traces of the internal bits have disappeared, leaving one to visualize the structure as having enclosed a single large space.
