International Uilleann Piping Day 2021 with Seán Potts​

To celebrate International Uilleann Piping Day 2021 the National Museum of Ireland – Decorative Arts & History, is joined by Uilleann piper Seán Potts.

Seán will join us for this online event as part the 10th International Uilleann Piping Day, an event organised by Na Píobairí Uilleann, the society of uilleann pipers, to celebrate the playing of this uniquely Irish instrument all over the world. Seán will discuss exactly how the pipes work followed by a performance of two reels - Speed the Plough and the Flogging Reel followed by a couple of horpnipes, An tSeanbhean Bhocht and the Fairy Hornpipe.

Pipers from up to 40 countries will take part in organised recitals, workshops and talks from countries such as Japan, Cuba, the US, Mexico, Canada, Argentina and Australia - many linking in with NPU headquarters in 15 Henrietta St Dublin. Events will also take place nationwide and NPU, with the support of Culture Ireland, is sending pipers to Madrid, Parma London and Cardiff. Sharing the 'Sound of Ireland', Na Píobairí Uilleann uses the occasion to celebrate its worldwide membership of thousands of uilleann pipers.
