Pigeons

Poor wee souls, I know a lot of people don't like pigeons, calling them winged rats, etc, but I do like them.

On a lighter note, the 6 Music Breakfast Show has pointed out how wood pigeons are actually singing along with the beat from the theme tune to John Carpenter's Escape from New York.

Im not sure i know wood pigeons. Are they the same as we have in NYC who coo? The beat to Escape is 4/4 so its not hard to coo along, is there a sound clip?

Just looked it up: wood pigeons are native to Europe and Asia, so you probably won't have heard them.

It has a great cast, but they're all basically cartoon characters. And not one a pigeon!

Pigeon wearing tiny sombrero discovered in Reno

A pigeon wearing a tiny sombrero in Reno was discovered following sightings of its cowboy hat-wearing cousins in Las Vegas, a city manager said.

Reno City Manager Sabra Newby tweeted about the bird Wednesday, saying it’s quirky and fun but still inhumane, KOLO-TV reported.

It is the first known sighting of hat-wearing birds in the region, Washoe County Regional Animal Services officials said.

The sighting comes after a pigeon in Las Vegas with a miniature cowboy hat glued to its head died earlier this week, animal officials said.

People who see the bird are encouraged to call animal service dispatch officers, officials said.

Pigeons in MAGA hats released in downtown Las Vegas

A flock of pigeons were released in downtown Las Vegas with Trump-supporting hats affixed to their heads -- and one with a Trump-inspired wig.

The anonymous group Pigeons United To Interfere Now, or P.U.T.I.N., said it released several pigeons wearing red Make America Great Again hats and one wearing a wig into downtown Las Vegas on Tuesday as a show of support for President Donald Trump, who arrived Tuesday in Las Vegas and is scheduled to be in town through a campaign rally Friday.

P.U.T.I.N. said the MAGA pigeons were also meant as a sign of protest ahead of Wednesday night's Democratic debate in Las Vegas.

The group's founder, identified as Coo Hand Luke, said the pigeons were rescued after being found with a variety of ailments and were released with their headgear after recovering.

The move comes after pigeons were spotted in Nevada wearing cowboy hats and sombreros. One of the hat-wearing pigeons died after being caught by rescuers.

Police Persecute Pakistani Pigeon.

A Pakistani villager has urged Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to return his pigeon, currently being held in India on charges of spying.

The man, who lives just 4km (2.5 miles) from the border, said he flew his pigeons to celebrate Eid festival. Police said the pigeon had a ring on one of its legs, inscribed with a code that they were trying to decipher.

The Pakistani villager, who claims the arrested pigeon is his, says the code is actually his mobile phone number. Pakistan's Dawn newspaper has identified the man as Habibullah and reports that he owns a dozen pigeons.

Habibullah told the paper that his pigeon was a "symbol of peace" and India should "refrain from victimising innocent birds".

A pink pigeon seen in a town centre has ruffled a few feathers amongst surprised locals.

The bird has been spotted accepting food from people in Bury town centre as well as on roof tops in the area.

Greater Manchester Police said some of its officers on foot patrol had also come across the "rare pink pigeon in the town centre".

Locals are speculating whether the mystery bird has been dyed, fallen into something or is naturally pink.
