Personally I would expect experience pilots to be able to recognize something unusual
line added to ward off a mod' berating.

Probably Jupiter. It followed them for 30 minutes and was not visible on radar.

I would expect experience pilots to be able to recognize something usual too.
Most commercial jet aircraft flights are higher than cloud level mostly so I would expect them to be fairly familiar with the sight of all sorts of cosmological manifestation. Especially planets in the night sky.
