Scarborough Lights and the the Filey triangle

Filey named as unlikely UFO 'hot spot'

Flying saucer? No, it's the Filey triangle

Yorkshire Evening Post, December 30

THE genteel east coast resort of Filey has been named as the unlikely UFO hot spot of the British Isles.
The claim is made by an independent research group called the British UFO Hunters.
They say more sightings of mysterious objects are made there than anywhere else in Britain - with Selby and Fife as distant runners-up.
The UFO Hunters base their findings on evidence from Filey Ufologist Russell Kellett who founded the International UFO Network eight years ago.
"Yes, this is the UFO capital," he said, "and it has taken over from Bonnybridge, near Falkirk in Scotland.
"So far we have 48 recorded sightings in Filey this year. The next nearest is Selby with 20.
"People are coming here from places like Newcastle, Leeds and Hull because they have heard about its reputation.
"Some people think that because researchers like me are active in these towns, we attract these mysterious objects in the sky. We are like conduits for them."
Mr Kellett said the most spectacular sighting in Filey this year was late at night in June when a couple walking their dog saw a flying triangle soar out of the sea and up into the sky.
He said: "I have also been in touch with a young woman living on the outskirts of the town who says she met a tall alien in her home. She has no memory of how he left."
The UFO Hunters claim that the North Sea is an experimental area for top-secret US aircraft.
But Mr Kellett dismisses the idea that UFO sightings near the coast are of man-made craft.
"They would not come so close to the town," he said. "The US Government does not like people to see its new technology."
Mr Kellett has a large library of UFO video footage, some of which will be included in a documentary being made for the Cannes Film Festival.
He and his fellow researcher, Jody Holden, of Selby will be featured on the Bravo TV channel next month in Video Vigilantes, a programme about their work.

[Emp edit: Merged and name tweaked]

Filey Brigg gets a mention in the Underground Alien Bases thread as a possible location of an.. erm.. Alien Underground Base.

Which is later disputed by someone else.

Filey does seem very active at the moment, but most of the reports seem to emanate from Russell Kellet (try googling on Filey UFO - he crops up in nearly every hit). Good thing a "full-time UFO researcher" such as he is being so vigilant :).

EDIT - it transpired Mr Kellet has his own online magazine, which appears to be subscription only, and features:
East Coast Flap Full Report (really? how about that then..-stu)

DRAGON LIGHTS

The Berwyn Mountain Case (Part 1)

(We bring you the best ever UFO Footage)(heard that before..)

Rendlesham Forest - The East Coast Connection (oh blimey  )

Also...........

Big Cats *Angels * Remote Viewing * Ley Lines * Divining
Jolly good :).

Well, it's apparently free, but then we're offered the chance to buy a subscription. Anyone already a subscriber, free or otherwise?

Anyone in the neighbourhood?

Bright lights spotted in sky

A SERIES of moving bright lights were spotted in the sky off Scarborough – cementing claims that the East Coast is the UFO capital of Europe.

Pat Glenwright, of Grange Avenue, saw the lights shoot across the sky at 4.30pm yesterday.

She said: "There were about 14 so it definitely wasn't an aeroplane. They were flying in a group and it looks from here as though they were the size of lightbulbs."

A friend added: "They were bright and were very high up. It was very noticeable.

"They were coming from right and left and looked as though they were heading towards Whitby."

In December Chris Parr, of the British UFO Hunters group, said the coastal area between Filey and Scarborough was the British hotspot for UFO activity.

Filey UFO hunter Russ Kellett said there are more recorded sightings of UFOs in Filey and along the East Coast than anywhere else in the country.

I'm going on holiday to Scarborough next Saturday so I'll keep my eyes open :D

Mind you there are alot of planes in the area as the RAF and USAF fly over the moors alot.

I'm in Whitby in a couple of weeks so I'll keep my eyes peeled too. Don't seem to get many flying down to Hull (as far as I'm aware) :) I'll keep looking though.

Cheers

Floyd

I have had or known someone who has had unreal experiences in Whitby and surrounding areas.

Posts are already up HERE!

Unless of course they are Earth lights that sometimes appear before an impending disaster :(

I was in Whitby on Sunday watching the cliffs collapse!

Well I shall be keeping my eyes peeled in the hope of seeing something.

I did spend several cold hours on the moors in the dark looking for meteorites last time I went and saw loads, but no UFO's :D

Yup...the cliffs on that coast are always collapsing. I have had several near misses whilst fossil hunting at nearby Sandsend

 I take it back! Perhaps collapsing cliffs can cause earthlights too?

 Didn't think of that. My hotel is on a cliff

Yes, I've spent many an hour stargazing on the moors, usually whilst staying at the Lion Inn. Like you, no UFO's seen.

I am always amazed at the clarity of the skys away from the city. I wander about like some sort of hick staring into space :D

Quite agree. Fantastic isn't it. If you use binos, the orion nebula and andromeda galaxy are amazing with dark skies. :)

Mysterious goings-on in the Filey Triangle

Why an eight-mile stretch of North Yorkshire coastline could prove to be an extra-terrestrial tourist hotspot

Paul Jeeves
THE truth, it seems, is out there – along an eight-mile stretch of North Yorkshire's coastline.
Legions of UFO enthusiasts from across the UK have descended on what has become the nation's prime location to witness strange and other-worldly shapes in the skies between Scarborough and Filey.
They recorded at least 50 sightings of unidentified flying objects last year between the two seaside resorts, which now appear to have an increasing allure for extra-terrestrial visitors.
Since the start of this year, a further 85 sightings have been made and North Yorkshire is now considered the UFO spotting capital of Britain with dozens of other incidents recorded across the county during 2004.
Nationally, the public's fascination with UFOs has dwindled since the mid-1990s pinnacle that coincided with the huge popularity of the US television sci-fi drama The X Files.
But a burgeoning underground network of enthusiasts across the region has meant the rate of sightings has continued unabated.
UFO investigator Russell Kellett has found himself at the centre of the UFO mecca after moving to Filey five years ago from Bradford.
The 42-year-old has experienced his own taste of the unexplained, including a bizarre close encounter at a railway crossing in Yorkshire 17 years ago.
Mr Kellett was left with raw, red scarring on his hands, neck and face after he spotted a bright light hovering above as he waited on his motorbike at the crossing near Keighley in 1988.
Since then he has spent up to 15 hours each week scanning the skies above Yorkshire in the hope of capturing evidence of UFO activity on his video camera.
North Yorkshire's lack of light pollution and the clear skies along the East Coast make the county an ideal hunting ground for UFOs.
Mr Kellett said: "Since 1988 I've been on a journey to find out what has been happening. I do believe that it's not all about friendly ET-style characters coming to visit us.
"I really do believe we need to find out things before it's too late, and there's nowhere better to do this than here in North Yorkshire.
"The area between Scarborough and Filey is without doubt the UFO capital of Britain – we've got the statistics and the sightings to prove it.
"It's remarkable that we have had so many sightings here, and it's down to the hard work all the enthusiasts are putting in."
The close encounters in North Yorkshire last year include:
n A multitude of UFO sightings in Filey, dating back to 2004, including descriptions and video evidence consisting of flying triangles emerging from the North Sea.
n A disc-shaped UFO captured on film over Selby and there has also been reports of a huge UFO hovering over the Drax power station during the daytime.
n A transparent ring-shaped UFO spotted pulsating in the night sky over Skipton on May 20 last year.
n Images of a jellyfish-shaped UFO captured by a couple who pulled over in their car at Whixley to the west of York.
n Multiple sightings of supposed fleets of small UFOs flying in formation at Scarborough.
Andy Kelly, of Colton, Leeds, who is a computer specialist contracted to work for British Aerospace, was one of the witnesses to a sighting of a boomerang-shaped UFO near Selby in May last year.
Mr Kelly, 49, who has been a keen aviation enthusiast since the age of 16, said: "I was driving along the M62 back to Leeds and I spotted an aircraft circling overheard as if it was looking for something.
"Then I saw another shape in the sky, and to this day I don't know what it was. I know what a conventional aircraft looks like, and it certainly wasn't something I have ever seen before."
Despite the dwindling interest in UFOs among many sections of the public, a network of enthusiasts has formed across the country since the British UFO Hunters group was established in 2002.
The spotters, who have dubbed themselves an "underground response unit" to the unexplained, now aim to be at the location as quickly as possible of any sightings which are reported to them.
But the group's founder, Chris Parr, admits it is not an exact science.
"It is down to luck and being in the right place at the right time," he said.
"The popularity of ufology has declined and this has tied in with the demise of The X-Files. The series made so many people aware of the subject.
"But Yorkshire remains the hotbed of UFO activity for the whole of Britain, there have been so many sightings in recent times it is attracting a lot of interest from across the country."
Mr Parr's own fascination with UFOs was triggered in 1984 when he was bathed in a bright shining light while making a cup of coffee in his kitchen in Whitehaven, Cumbria.
According to Mr Parr, the intense ball of light then sped off and vanished into the night sky.

"It's remarkable that we have had so many sightings here, and it's down to the hard work all the enthusiasts are putting in."
It sounds rather reminiscent of the notorious skywatches overseen by the late Arthur Shuttlewood during the reign of the "Warminster Thing". If you have enough "enthusiasts" looking up into the sky hoping to see UFOs, then UFOs are what they'll see - whether they're actually there or not!

i spent some time quite a while ago on arkengarthdale moor, below barnard castle but above richmond
an i can say that i quite often seen very strange light in the sky and on the ground..

Odd lights above Hull.

Just come in from watching a strange light about 40 degrees above the horizon looking north from the centre of Hull.

My daughters, amateur star spotters, saw it first, a bright white light moving from west to east and then fading from view. They called me and wife outside and we then saw a similar light to the first, but this time moving downwards in the sky. After ten minutes or so, me and my wife came back in and then my daughters saw the same bright white light appear and then disappear, but further to the west.

Any ideas? I don't think it was anything to do with the Perseids, and it certainly wasn't an aircraft or the local police force helicopter. Anyone else in the vicinity see anything?

Most definitely Satellites. They appear as bright white lights, which fade from view as they move beyond the curvature of the Earth's atmosphere, always in a straight line. The best of them has to be the International Space Station that passes overhead several times a night. You can even see the solar panel arms though binoculars!

Here is a link to track satellites in our night skies:

Another Selby sighting and a photo (at the source):

UFO PHOTO 'PROOF'

THIS X-Files image shows what is believed to be a UFO hovering over a well-known Selby beauty spot.

The photo – taken by Selby resident Jody Holden – has been described by friend and fellow UFO enthusiast Russell Kellett as "one of the most powerful UFO images ever captured".

The duo are both members of the British UFO Hunters but insist they don't have to do much hunting to find extra terrestrial activity in the town.

Russell said the image of an alien spacecraft looking down on Brayton Barff was captured a month ago.

He added: "At first Jody looked and thought it was an aeroplane, but on closer inspection he saw it was a saucer with a two-tier effect."

The 42-year-old Filey resident explained he was ready to give up his research after he believed his work wasn't being taken seriously enough.

"People around the world have been sending us messages and e-mails telling us not to give up. This is a very powerful image, one of the best I've ever seen. We know it's not simply plasma making this happen; we've heard this all before.

"People need to be aware just what's going on, or at least that there's something a little bit mysterious occurring."

A report released by the MOD recently revealed 15 per cent of UFO sightings in 2005 occurred in North Yorkshire.

As exclusively revealed in the Selby Times last year, the town recorded an unprecedented 33 cases of X-File phenomena in 2004, shooting the district to third spot in the British UFO Hunters' activity top ten.

Any budding extra terrestrial seekers out there are urged to contact Russell's hotline on 01723 514700 with reports of sightings, or visit the http://www.UFO-paranormal.co.uk website.

Russ Kellett? I thought he'd got out of the UFO business and burnt all his research material as a protest against Ant and Dec?

Mr Kellett, who is vice-chairman of the British Flying Saucer Bureau, said: "When I first saw the picture I thought it was a fighter jet banking to the right, but the problem is that the object looks to have three parts to it.
Hmmm. Insects typically have three parts to them. To me, it looks close up. Why wouldn't light anomolies block out the cable? Another thing, LOOK AFTER YOUR EQUIPMENT! Bloody Hell! Even an amateur photographer doesn't have shit all over their sensors!
Anyway, that aside... (Plus not seeing the other consecutive shots,) it looks just like some debris on the lense to me.
Thanks for posting.

To me, it looks close up.
As thought I! A quick search of the Scarborough evening news' letters archive turns up quite a few reported ufo sightings though.
