I was standing on my balcony a few minutes ago, and while I was doing so a double-decker bus went past in the street below. As I was watching it, there was a loud "crack!" and I saw a large snowball, about half the size of a basketball, hit the roof of the bus and bounce off, disintegrating as it did so.
Now I know that kids like throwing snowballs at buses, but unlike other parts of the UK, we've only had a tiny amount of snow falling here, and that melted as soon as it hit the ground. The bus was too far away for anyone to have thrown a snowball from my building, and there are no buildings high enough on the other side of the road for anyone to have been able to hit the roof of the bus. But the main point is that there isn't any snow here to make a snowball with in the first place - so where did it come from?
