Surname Origin

Not really a Fortean question and destined to be moved, but can anybody with a good general knowledge or stronger Google-Fu that me tell me where in the world somebody with the (presumed) surname of Gianti is likely to have come from.

There may or may not be a West African connection.

Edit: I know it looks Italian, but is it? And are there other possibilities.

It seems to be predominantly Indonesian as a given name.

For what it's worth, a couple of name / genealogy sites with geographical plotting features map the surname Gianti quite heavily into northwestern Italy and southeastern France.
