My all-time favorite yet remains one of the very first Hubble images I ever encountered, No. 16, "The Pillars of Creation," with its adoring gargoyle, its sleeping cat and the Universe's largest castle.

Wait, after all those years taking pictures, there are only 1076 images??? I can take that many pictures over a week's vacation!

Where are all the other images?


(possible answer: astronomers bid for time on the 'scope, and I guess they keep the rights to those images?)

Otherwise, many images are made up of very long duration acquisitions.

Plus, where are the blurry images from before it was fixed?

That isnt the entire collection by far. It's the "entire collection" from the Hubblesite website - images that are specially prepared for public release and publication.
