Years ago I was at a Mind, Body & Soul exhibition somewhere in London. There was hundreds and hundreds of stalls, exhibitions, demonstrations, lectures, etc. I got there around 10am and left at around 4.30pm and I still hadn't seen it all.

There were several stalls selling Ouija boards from the cheapest cardboard ones to expensive wooden ones with pearl inlays and fancy carvings. One particular stall had an almost perceptible darkness around it. The stall holders were anything but friendly and I got a weird not so nice vibe off them. I touched one the wooden ouija boards and instantly had a sense of leave and leave now. The woman stall holder shouted at me 'DO NOT TOUCH'. After telling her she was f***ing rude I wandered off on my way but I could feel her eyes burning on my back. When I looked back she was happily chatting to a prospective buyer.

That was a very weird experience. Since then my view of ouija boards is to stay well clear of them.

I don't know whether inanimate objects can become'posessed', but we used to have a thread on wardrobes inhabited by their previous owners.

I suppose it is possible that if the former owner was practiised in supernatural goings on, and of a nasty disposition, they might manage still to control a ouija board to their own advantage.
Not a nice thought! (Safer to make your own :) )

We're off to the Weird Weekend soon and for the first time, might be able to spend time socialising in a quiet gloomy space with fellow Forteans and occult-minded individuals.

If this comes about, and the talk drifts to seances, as it undoubtedly will, Techy will casually mention the ouija board he happens to have in the car boot... :wink2:

50 people scaring themselves at once: could be legendary.
I'm already having souvenirs made.

M'mm. . . how about this; 25 Ouija boards shared between two groups (50 people), and see if they give any similarity (or same) results between the two groups?

We probably do have nearly that number as Techy used to collect them.

We used to make life-sized photocopies. Wonder if I could do that again? :thought:

Exorcist police officer claims 28 girls 'opened doorway to evil' with Ouija board

A police officer who now works as an exorcist has suggested the reason 28 girls fell ill in Colombia is because they opened a "doorway to evil" while playing with an Ouija board.

The schoolgirls were hospitalised after suffering from anxiety and fainting episodes on February 27.

The 28 students at the Galeras Educational Institution in Pasto, southern Colombia, were taken to the Galeras Educational Institution in Sucre Department where they were treated.

Chris DeFlorio, a former NYPD cop, travels the US performing exorcisms with his wife Harmony and claims to rid homes and individuals of evil spirits.

He has now claimed theories that "something evil is happening in the area that is targeting children spiritually" is not being addressed.

Messing about with ouija boards used to be very common when I was at school. While there was one nasty incident, 99% it definitely didn’t cause mass hysteria, but then with a few people it probably wouldn’t; twenty eight? Yes. Hysteria is contagious with that many.

Beware of Christian Ouija Boards!

For just $30 on Amazon, you can purchase the Holy Spirit Board, a ouija board that will enable you to "communicate directly with Jesus Christ."

According to the product description, it's "perfect for churches, prayer groups, or just getting together with friends." But beware! Father Ernesto Caro, an exorcist in the Diocese of Monterey in Mexico, says the talking board is "not a game" but rather a "trap from the devil." Cool! I can't wait for mine to arrive! Below, Carro talks about this evil item on the Catholic television network program EWTN News Nightly. From CNA:

The game's description says, "GET THE ANSWERS YOU NEED! — The Holy Spirit Board can answer all of life's most important questions, straight from the man himself!" and assures potential buyers that "unlike other spirit boards, this one will NEVER contact evil ghosts or demons, so you can ask your questions with an assured sense of safety."
Despite the Christian imagery, Caro says the so-called Holy Spirit Board is just a Ouija board repackaged to trick Christians into using it.
As an exorcist, Caro warns Christians to not be fooled and that using the board would be "opening a door that could be dangerous for you."[…]
Based on the board's advertising, "you would probably think that it is God that is talking with you," Caro said, "but it's not."
"If the [Ouija board] triangle is moving by itself, be careful, it's not God who is moving, it's the devil," Caro said.

So ... burn, destroy or just avoid this board because it communicates with demons but change the branding and you're in direct communications to God?
Don't they realise the push-back they'll get from various religious leaders, worried about maintaining their expertise?

Guess it's a case of 'Yes,' or 'No?'

I really wish we still had the option of clicking a HaHa reply here.

Does any of the advertising literature say, or even imply, that this board is approved for use or even authorised by the Church?
I mean, this is obviously cashing in on the craze, but I'd imagine the church leaders would be furious ... again.

My own take from never having used one and never wanting to, is that all they do is allow very low level spirits through, who delight is scaring people (to perhaps feed off the energy created)

They fascinate me but I think mine must be broken lol. I've used mine when I'm alone, asked anything to come through that might want to chat, tried it years back with a friend (who fell asleep waiting for something to happen) and keep it like this year round which apparently is bad as the planchette on the board invites spirits, or something along that line so I've read.

So far nothing strange in the house ever, but it does keep visitors from wanting to stay too long as it unnerves them. Maybe it needs new batteries haha

Trying to get it to work could become a regrettable action!

I think most are taking the proverbial. I doubt many true believers are referring to their Messiah as "Captain Howdy"

Some of these reviews are really hilarious. One guy tells us that, since he forgot to say "goodbye" at the end of his seance, he was "haunted by Jesus" !

I can't find back this quote. Maybe it was edited or censored since my last visit. But lots of ironic reviews are still there.

Yes, if you’re 'contacting spirits/entities’ when using one, whether it’s an actual ouija or letters & upturned wine glass, then it should work with just one person. It seems very picky of entities to insist at least two people participate before making an appearance.

They're required by the union/ghost OSHA/the company to get at least two players onsite before contact, don'cha know, them's the rules, might be worth their job!
