I must confess that when I heard of Douglas Adams' death a year ago, one of my first thoughts was "you could have finished the third Dirk Gently novel first!" :(

Well, now here it is. Or rather here is an unfinished early draft of a novel that would almost certainly have been entirely diffferent if Douglas had lived to finish it, together with a couple of unrelated short stories and essays presumably included to make the book look longer...

I wonder if Douglas would have approved of people ransacking his Mac for the last scraps of publishable material or whether, like a character in the first Dirk Gently novel he's desperately trying to contact the living to inform them of the error of their ways.

Having said all that, I'll probably buy the book when it comes out in paperback.
