Okay, we've had "Best TV shows that got the ax!!!" so now let's have "TV Shows that should be Axed!"

I'll start with You've Been Framed. Lisa Riley was bad enough but this new guy just completely creeps me out. What is it with him? And anyway, I'm fed up of watching somebody's brat barf on Granny, Mum, Aunty, whatever. Talk about past its sell by date.

Oh, and axe all the damn soaps too - no-one should be subjected to that! And they can axe ALL the friggerty news prog's s'far as I'm concerned too! They should have a special channel for the whole lot of 'em.

Disgusted from Bath.

And she still managed to be a retrograde step from Jeremy Beadle. :eek!!!!:

I would axe 99% of reality TV shows. I am continually amazed at how low the "lowest common denominator" can go. (Extreme plastic surgery in the same format as House Doctor...)

Nice to see you back Forty2 (you'd better have a good excuse young man!)
Don't forget, Fortis, that Jeremy Beadle is a fortean. And reality TV is one of the many things that keeps me on this board, night after night, as my husband watches it incessantly. OK, so maybe that's a good reason to axe it. :p

They should axe East Enders though, the people on it are far too common. ;)

Every reality TV show that's still on the air.

Oh, and the people that watch them should be sent to camps just for good measure.

They really should stop showing The Twilight Zone. ;)

What's That Den? Dennis Is A Bad Lot you Say?

It's simply got to be 'Eastenders.' It's makes 'The Sopranos' look like 'Touched By An Angel' !

It's like watching 'The Long Good Friday' and 'Performance' spliced together on a nightly basis.

And, it has to stop, before Jim Davidson appears to take over the car dealership, as the comic relief.

TVs Naughtiest Blunders :

I'm fed up of seeing the same clips again and again and again.

Anything on ITV... The only thing I watch is 'CD:UK' (I watch Formula 1 as well, but only to catch up on my sleep ;) ). Does anyone remember the days when they used to make documentaries and current affairs programmes?

  • a place in the sun
  • house doctor
  • location, location location.
  • the property lader
  • I want that house
  • escape to the country
  • tradeing up
  • etc, etc.

Who the hell watches thease crappy House buying programs when hardly anyone can afford to buy a house at thease inflated prices???

These shows are always purile, vapid, soul sucking, crap watched by people with less inteligence than the advarage water mellon.

I really wish someone would Kill these shows off and all of their bastardised ilk.

And anything that involves gardening without Percy Thower....

Axe anything with the suffix ...from hell :hmph:

Anything with the word Live in the title and every single sporting event ever.

Anything featuring young, beautiful, fit, healthy, Americans being all angsty.

Bastards.

Madam, I presume you're talking about the new atrocity hosted by Forest Whitaker.

After they remade "Eye of the Beholder" in color featuring Molly Sims in the lead, I knew there was no God.

In Hungary, the only English-speaking channels are a couple of music stations, BBC World (news) and BBC Prime, which shows reruns of ahem popular BBC TV shows.

The students I was living with actually chose to watch 'Coupling', which is the very worst pile of tripe I have ever seen outside my dog's bowl.

Enough to drive me to drink.

We haven't been subjected to that yet :eek!!!!: It sounds frightful!
No, as usual I was just trying to wind you up. :p

I really must disagree in the strongest possible terms having actully watched the program in question on numerous occasions. ;)

Any one who neads any evidense on just how good coupling is should check out this page of quotes and clips of Richard coyle as Jeff Murdoc. :)

The "wisdom" of Jeff

I didn't realise there had been THREE series of this detritus.

Actually Flashers old bean,

I really must disagree in the strongest possible terms having actully watched the program in question on numerous occasions.

I was subjected to it more than once, FELT 'numerous', and it really was awful. Looked like an amateur dramatic production.

Is it supposed to be a modern 'comedy of manners'?

Made the Hungarian soft porn which always came on at midnight look like Shakespeare!

:yeay:

Why is it that my first post in every forum is always an argument?

Reality TV; Especially the way they are cannibalising themselves with things like 'Back to reality'

David Dickinson: Anything he appears on should be automatically axed. And I hold him personally responsible for "Only Flogging Dead Horses" beating Blackadder in the best sitcom vote.

Any gardening or makeover shows; Just lazy programming and cheap tv. Similar to reality shows really. Especially the ones with that northern tart Linda Barker. Get rid of those bloody Currys ads as well.

Ant and Dec; Which one's which? Do even they know?

Hidden Camers shows like 3 non-blondes: This crap stopped being funny 20 years ago, stop it now!

My Family; My Hero; Mad About Alice; and all the other cheap, shoddy, badly written crap masquerading as british sitcoms these days. Basil Fawlty must be spinning in his grave (if he was dead)

Well anytime they put anything really sharp and witty on television it immediately gets the ax. The American version of coupling was AWFUL. Why not just import the original if it is so great? Lord knows they export enough of our "entertainment" to fry every brain in the free world. I can't remember the last time I watched a really funny and innovative comedy on Tv. Maybe Andy Richter controls the universe? It was pretty funny. Well and I am quite fond of That 70's Show, but even that is old hat at this point. And I agree all reality TV must go. It isn't reality because they put people in such unrealistic situation. The whole concept is absurd. I mean cops was entertaining when it debuted 20 years ago, but if you seen one redneck wife beater get arrested you seen them all.

see, I told you I was logorrheic

Ditch anything with "Extreme" in the title. Get rid of any show centring on the lives and antics of angsty, whiny teens. Kill basketball, major league baseball and any non-F1 car racing, while you're at it (yob city).

Lawyer shows! KILL 'EM ALL! Chop any and all bad, baaad CBC dramas dealing with a dull workplace (TV news, stockbrokers, whatever) or bucolic 19th c. people living in the Maritimes or Prairies. Actually, the CBC should stop trying to make dramas, period. ("Look, we just don't care and you embarrass us with how badly you do it.")

Enough already with the vapid sitcoms which have a fat schmuck of a husband, a slim, wisecracking, longsuffering wife, and a bevy of cute, too-smart-arsed-for-their-own-good kids, living in a ginormous suburban house. I HATE family-oriented sitcoms anyway; one of the things I loved most about Seinfeld was that it was one of the few comedies of the era which didn't centre around a nuclear family and their cloying widdle pwoblems.

Get rid of NYPD Blue if it's still around; it's a terrible, awful show and it staggers me to think that it was still fouling up the airwaves long after the far superior (and staggeringly underappreciated) Homicide: Life On The Street ended. Actually, most cop shows are shite anyway.

Any show which reuses these hackneyed plots should be axed immediately, and the writers/directors/producers lined up against a wall and shot: pet dies in the care of someone who is not the owner, must be replaced, hilarity ensues; someone is trapped in an elevator with a pregant woman, hilarity and/or Meaningful Drama ensues; man turns into bigger schmuck than usual trying to impress a new date, hilarity ensues; Hard-Nosed Cop <tm> runs afoul of his superiors, must go outside the rules to Get The Perp, hilarity ensues.

Enough with the following show genres: decorating, dating, reality shows, gushy showbiz reporting, and gooey Choprah Winfrey-style "how I found meaning in my life" lifestyle shows aimed at women (who? WHO, for the love of god?!).

So that leaves the News at Ten and Bagpuss, then.

And the cartoons

And OU

And the silly animal documentaries about the same old animals that you have seen thrice over.

...why don't go all out and axe the entire medium? As things are progressing here, there will not be much left anyway... ;)

And I would like to propse the axing of any show there people scream in falsetto. It's annoying me something awful.

Why do half you people still even own a television?

You don't have to own one. It's not compulsory.

Why do you people own a tv it's not compulsary.

But what would we have to complain and act superior about? ;)

I mean as we all know we are limitlessly talented and could write circles around everyone out their today. And for that matter if the world were in our hands, all problems would be solved and entertainment endlessly entertaining. Because of our particular brilliance and creativity.:D

I can sort of understand the Brits whining because we're forced into paying the licence fee and what have you.

But even that is a tenuous argument.

What do you mean you have to pay a license fee? We pay for cable. You can get channels for free with an antennae, but very few people do this. Some don't have a choice though, my parent for example live in a rural area so must have an antennae to pick up local stations. Then have a satellite dish for "cable" stations.
