UFO lights could be sky lanterns.

As I'm interested in the UFO phenomenom as a whole, I've been watching videos on the internet a lot lately. I've noticed that some of the UFO's filmed seem to look like Sky Lanterns. They seem to be used more and more in the west, and a lot in places like China.

http://www.theskylantern.com/ They even call these UFO Lanterns.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_tNHscNxn_U A video of a lantern celebration in China.

Doesn't it seem to you that a lot of these " UFO orbs ", or lights in the sky could just be these?

Don't get me wrong, I believe ET is out there, and maybe visiting us, but the lights in the sky always makes me think of these lanterns now.

Darn I hope those balloons are bio-degradable! ;) But thats a different issue.

So many, Looks beautiful, what a night out that must have been. Still, yeah, plenty of potential for mis-identification. But people should always be able to tell by movements of the objects under observation, by what means they are under control. It should be obvious to the observer, they these balloons are at the mercy of the elements.

True, but the human psyche these days would lead a lot of people to think of UFO's. Ufology is a part of life now, everyone has heard of them, and at least occassionally discuss them, so when they see something like these, they could become excited by the sight they have before them.

I'm not saying that all UFO sightings are lanterns, of course not, but I'm guessing that about 20% are.

You have to know a bit about the wind - for example, many people don't realise that the wind five hundred feet up can be blowing in a completely different direction from that at ground level. So you get a lot of reports like "it couldn't be a balloon, it was going against the wind."

20% seems like an awful lot. How long do these lanterns stay up anyway, isn´t it a matter of hours rather than days?

Happened a few weeks ago in Harrogate.Reports of ufos.Turned out tobe lanterns released at a party a couple of miles out of town which had blown into Harrogate.

I was just about to post a thread about the UFO i saw and photographed over Birmingham city centre on Monday... and it was almost definitely one of these!

Will try to post the pics anyway (although they're not very good)... although the size and height of the object was hard to judge, it clearly appeared from somewhere fairly low (low enough to pass behind the roofs of buildings) and moved in a very purposeful-seeming straight line while getting higher at a fairly constant rate - I estimate it was over a mile away before it became invisible (it was only just after dark).

It was bright orange and the flickering of the flame was very clearly visible, seeming almost "alive" - my first impression of it was of a transparent box or jar containing a bright sodium-orange flame, taller than it was wide and probably in the region of 1 to 2 metres tall... obviously not something that could contain a humanoid being, but nonetheless appearing purposeful in its direction - as it disappeared into the distance, it could easily have been mistaken (in everything but colour) for an aeroplane light.

I wasn't sure of the direction of the wind (was sheltered by buildings), but the object appeared to be going from approx W or NW to approx E or SE... anyone know which way the wind was blowing on Monday?

Rather pretty video here:

Indonesia breaks sky lantern record

Indonesia has broken the world record for launching the most number of sky lanterns simultaneously.

Officials say more than 10,000 paper lanterns were released into the night sky above Jakarta.

They may not be, which would be terribly irresponsible. There was a two part series on fire lanterns in the last couple of FTs and they suggest some have wire in which could cause all sorts of problems (even leaving aside people sending burning things up into the air with no idea where they might come down.

It is likely that the big boost in reports this year is at least partly down to fire lanterns, but orange orbs have a long history in Ufology so I wonder if these fire lanterns are being launched by "fellow travellers" helping to disguise the alien invasion fleet.

I reckon this was a UFO using a death-ray to wipe out incriminating crop circles.

Chinese lantern causes crop fire near Woodstock
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-ox ... e-10826445

A Chinese lantern released as part of birthday celebrations caused a severe crop fire when it landed in an Oxfordshire field.

Crews were called to Stonesfield, near Woodstock, at 2130 BST on Friday, to seven hectares of barley crop on fire.

Firefighters tackled the blaze to stop it from spreading to nearby crop fields and hedges.

Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue Service said there had been a recent increase in fires caused by the lanterns.

Incident commander John Nixon said: "Whilst we are happy for people to celebrate special occasions, they must consider the potential damage these lanterns can cause.

"We have had a particularly dry summer and it does not take much to set large areas of the countryside alight."

They the Sky Lanterns are now the worlds best goverment cover up story, before it was venus swamp gas etc,now when a new secret craft has a test flight it is now put down to Sky Lanterns, same with the real UFOs so now everyone has heard about the Sky Lanterns,so it is reasonable to assume every light in the skies are Lanterns, and like before everyone is mad as a hatter if they think they come from some where else.
