Talk about your crazy method to get the truth.

From: https://salemweb.com/witches/the-salem-witch-trials/chronology/

January 20

Nine-year-old Elizabeth Parris and eleven-year-old Abigail Williams began to exhibit strange behavior, such as blasphemous screaming, convulsive seizures, trance-like states and mysterious spells. Within a short time, several other Salem girls began to demonstrate similar behavior.

Mid-February
Unable to determine any physical cause for the symptoms and dreadful behavior, physicians concluded that the girls were under the influence of Satan.

Late February
Prayer services and community fasting were conducted by Reverend Samuel Parris in hopes of relieving the evil forces that plagued them. In an effort to expose the "witches", John Indian baked a witch cake made with rye meal and the afflicted girls' urine. This counter-magic was meant to reveal the identities of the "witches" to the afflicted girls.

Has anybody ever heard this weirdness before? Did some perv make it up on the spot or was a dose of urine-cake an accepted practice?

I've read that bread was sometimes soaked in the urine of 'witchcraft victims' and fed to animals which then acted weirdly.
Seems to be a faint realisation of the probable cause of the visions they had, which was ergot poisoning.

IIRC I read somewhere about witche sfeeding people urine infested food to get control over them? or something along those lines...

I would think that if you can force people to consume piss, you already have control over them, yes?

New, improved piss-cakes! I can just see the advertising campaign now. Get 'em while they're hot...

I'm surprised some edge-lording foodie hasn't sought to recreate them as the new "in" flavor!
Reminds me of a book I had years ago, on 'Curse Cakes' - it gave different recipes of baking a cake that would put a Curse on someone, when you gave it to them to eat.
The trick was you had to bake things like their nail clippings or hairs inside the cake.
Never tried it, and lost the book, does anyone know if they really work??

Don’t give some money-grubbing chancer the idea for a scam.

We already have trendies who drink urine, brew beer using vaginal yeast and make breast milk ice cream. Inserting waste products and assorted human exudations into other foodstuffs is several steps too far.

(Although the idea of advertising a piss, Quorn and locust cake to trendy ennui victims as a rejuvenator and Covid preventative does tickle my sense of humour…)

Nothing new. We used to have a thread on drinking one's own urine as a way of promoting health.

There are also Facebook groups on it which are regularly infiltrated by wags who, er, take the piss, and then post triumphant screenshots elsewhere. :chuckle:
