Were 1 in 20 Waterloo Casualties Women?

Incidentally, I have no knowledge of the veracity of ... the above.

There were a surprising number of female casualties at Waterloo, among whom some were wearing military type garb. This was not unusual for wives, women auxiliary personnel, and camp followers, so such clothing didn't necessarily represent a woman masquerading as a male soldier.

The number of such female deaths was more than one would expect, but I don't know whether it ran as high as a 1 in 20 ratio. See:
