Who Spotted The First 'Chemtrail'?

Wow I believe that conspiracy that dumb people and republicans are to blame for the spread of a conspiracy is even more of a stretch than the original theory in its own right. :p

Well, it does make more sense than that it is spread by left-wing educated rationalists. And you don't know the meaning of "dumb" until you have tried to argue with these people online like I have.*

We're talking about a bunch that has totally turned its back on science and non-Internet-based education. People who get their information from tabloid newspapers, shock-jock radio and comicbooks. It's actually frightening.

As opposed to other conspiracy theories, this one only requires the subject to look up at the sky and misinterpret what he sees. Belief in other half-baked c.t.'s only comes later in order to bolster their original delusion: NWO, UFOs, Planet Nibiru, the financial collapse, Swine flu, Morgellons Disease... it's all tied, you see.

I also refer you to the ignorant "grass-roots" movement derisively called the "tea-baggers" (in reference to their "Boston Tea Party" demonstrations) in the US: defeated Republicans who "revolt" against Obama's taxes, when most of them have actually got a tax break from his new budget, not realizing they are actually marching by proxy for the very richest in the nation. (See: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gl_MyQMCkNA) This "racist, Republican Redneck movement" (to quote comedienne Janeane Garofalo, see: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wIW8T11iZG0) is openly sponsored by right-wing, Republican-at-all-costs "news" organization Fox News. Their heroes are Rush Limbaugh (radio, unofficial spokesman for the Republican Party), Bill O'Reilly and Sean Hannity (Fox News alarmists), Alex Jones (radio right-wing dingbat banned from YouTube for hate propaganda) and Glenn Beck (Fox News nutjob who also openly spreads the belief in Obama's FEMA concentration camps for Republicans). I really wish I was inventing this.

Watch it and weep: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=izjfdfDHjWQ

Or, you can choose to laugh along with Bill Maher (liberal rationalist comedian): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uSnCKtrHaLw

Poor, ignorant, racist, white, humiliated, defeated, trailer-park Republicans are behaving in the same way as Germany's lumpenproletariat did in the 20's and 30's, espousing superstition and irrationality and hoping for a Nazi saviour in the face of economic and political downturn, anyone to rid them of the Black man with the Muslim name whose heart is set on implementing a godless liberal agenda.

*Last-minute edit: This is an actual answer to a post of mine on a falsified YouTube video showing the inside of one of those poison-spreading planes:

So in other words, your belief is what? Suppose you tell us all what you think this shit is. I know what it is - POISON - in our water, food - causing massive health problems worldwide - Explain all this shit away you fool. You can't because you also know what is real and what is the truth behind this shit. Go to hell along with the rest of your kind - God has plans for the likes of you!

And my favourite:

Hello. I'm from Mexico City. I saw a trace of this trails on the sky, very early in the morning. This was just two or? three weeks before the influenza hit the city.

Oh dear. For all the supposed benefits of the WWW, you have to wonder if it was worth it to allow these people a forum for their moronic, poisonous bile.

I am reminded of the shrill Bible-thumping Christian harpy in the movie based on Stephen King's The Mist (see: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HGp6C6NTWJA) and also of Carl Sagan's prophetic words in his essay The Demon-Haunted World: Science as a Candle in the Dark. I don't know the extent of the chemtrail fallacy but I do know it potentially encompasses every American who is poor, white, a defeated, disenfranchised Republican, has little or no science education in a country where some states impose the teaching of Creationism in schools and who needs a "legitimate" arena to vent his racist feelings and his fears of a different tomorrow. I pray that the Internet-based Chemtrail religion is limited to the part of that population that is wheelchair-bound, shut-in in trailer parks because of weight problems and has no other avenue than the Internet.

Glenn Beck was the first to spread the rumour. Then he said he was going to debunk it. Then he spread it all over again. His opinion varies with the ratings his shows get and the amount of alcohol he has imbibed. (BTW, Glenn Beck is a born-again Christian alcoholic, just like George W. Bush.)

Eventually, he started expressing some doubts, but only after many programmes in which he built on whole, 'FEMA is building concentration camps', conspiracy theory. Of course, some die hard CT-ers, believe that Beck is all part of the conspiracy.

Actually, you're right. Paleoconservative radio shock jock Alex Jones now calls Glenn Beck a turncoat and says that he has been intimidated by the NWO into changing his mind: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FamRrTJsJZo

Here is the very same Alex Jones on the subject of chemtrails: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aioACKr7C44 (first part of many)

And to answer this thread's basic question, the first YouTube video on the subject of chemtrails appeared on February 25, 2006: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GvioxJUL6C0

Alex Jones comes across as a nutter in that video.

While researching the origins of the first (anonymous) fully-formed Internet (i.e. YouTube) documentaries on the subject of chemtrails (Chemtrails: Clouds of Death and Aerosol Crimes), I keep coming across New Age entrepreneur Don Croft's website ( http://www.worldwithoutparasites.com/ ) which sells an "orgonite zapper" - inspired by Wilhelm Reich - that supposedly counteracts the effects of the dangerous chemicals sprayed by the bad governement planes. This site offers free downloads of those two documentaries with a warning that Aerosol Crimes could be a CIA disinformation film for the main reason that it doesn't endorse the power of orgone and all the fine products sold on that site (!).

Especially see this page: http://www.worldwithoutparasites.com/chemtrails.html , which can only be termed High Idiocy.

This raises the possibility that Chemtrails: Clouds of Death was first produced to boost the commercial sale of Don Croft's New Age gadgets (giant orgone chembusters a.k.a. cloudbusters, the practical pocket-size orgonite zapper, Moebius coils and crystals of various sort) that immunize the idiots from the consequences of the deadly chemical spraying. This video was then imitated by the "disinterested" makers of Aerosol Crimes (two years later in 2008, by my best estimate). The belief could have sprung from there to infect disenfranchised white trash Republicans who rely on the Internet for their information.

They talk about 'orgonite' as if it is a real, tangible substance.

BTW, that link didn't work properly, because it had a comma at the end.

It wasn't a comma. It was a simple, everyday orgone cluster.:D

Alex Jones is the only one off your list that talks about chemtrails and he is definitely not funded by any party. :D

Well, he's certainly not a Democrat.

From Wikipedia:

In early 2000 Jones was one of seven Republican candidates for state representative in Texas House District 48, an open seat swing district based in Austin, Texas. In a January 4, 2000 Austin American-Statesman story Jones stated that he was running, "to be a watchdog on the inside." He aborted his campaign, however, and withdrew before the March primary when polls indicated he had little chance of winning. Democrat Ann Kitchen won the seat in the November election.

Alex Jones is also the maker of the ultimate anti-Obama propaganda piece The Obama Deception (available here: http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid ... 5025800195 ).

In the crazier-than-thou world of conspiracy theorists, Alex Jones is sometimes criticized for his ties with the Republican party, his being too soft on Jesuits and Scientology and the fact that his radio show is affiliated to down-on-its-luck media network ABC which also hosts New Age programs. In the world of conspiracy theorists, the Republican establishment, New Age, Jesuits and Scientology are all part of the New World Order.

It's safe to say that Alex Jones' filmmaking talent often goes to the highest bidder.

Case in point 1: This website ( http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid ... 9760445280 ) presents the officially anonymous Chemtrails: Clouds of Death (2006) as being the collective work of Alex Jones and the afore-mentioned self-promoting organite New Age nutjob Don Croft. Curiouser and curiouser... The last five minutes of that 45 min opus is an outright commercial for Don Croft's orgone products.

Case in point 2: In 2006, Alex Jones interviewed Clifford E. Carnicom, eventual maker of the other magnum opus of the chemtard cycle, Aerosol Crimes ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1MHTXvftaKs in 10 parts).

That interview in 9 parts: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ohkV_i_0LWo

I think it would not be too far-fetched to assume that Alex Jones - who made a mint executive-producing Loose Change: The Final Cut, also had a hand in the making of that cinematic masterpiece.

Sorry to pop your bubble buddy but abc is pretty far in the left wing tank.

I believe I just said that ABC is even considered "New Age" by the ultra-radical conspiracy theorists. Are you one of them? But, for the longest time, the letters stood for "Always Blame Clinton" and, later, for "Absolve Bush Completely".:D

The liberal watchdog group Media Matters for America named ABC its third annual "Misinformer of the Year" award in 2006, not only for the Road to 9/11 miniseries (which blamed Clinton for the event), but for the alleged conservative pandering of ABC News director Mark Halperin and for biased claims on news programs such as ABC World News and Good Morning America. (See: http://mediamatters.org/research/200612220014 )

I realize this can go unnoticed as nobody watches that network anymore except for the afternoon soaps, The View and the prime-time sexual antics of Desperate Housewives. And what network wouldn't seem left-wing compared to Rupert Murdoch's Fox News? (See: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iQkWSHQwwBY )

In recent years, ABC News has quietly slipped into the realm of irrelevance and infotainment.

Is it me? :(

No, I agree with you. I assume some people never really look at the sky so they don't know what's odd and what's not

IMHO the only real mystery, is why the paranoia about them developed, which its why it would be interesting to know when and where the conspiracy theory kicked off.

you shouldn't be too hard on them, there are some places in hampshire where people still point excitedly whenever a plane flies overhead, or 'a silver bird of the Gods' as they are known in Andover.

Well, speaking from my side of the Atlantic, my theory is this:

1. Chemtards are white, poor and ignorant. They never looked at the sky in their life. They were too busy playing video games in their parents' basement. They have no intellectual curiosity and no formal education.
2. They saw their first "chemtrail" on YouTube on a fake video shilling for New Age orgone products at about the same time they realized the next president of the United States might be Black.
3. Having nothing better to do and no social life, they got sucked in the whole Internet conspiracy theory culture to the point where they actually cheer a 88-year old antisemite shooting up the security guard at a Holocaust Museum. They have a new hero/martyr.

I have posted a series of three satirical videos on YouTube equating belief in chemtrails with belief in the Wicked Witch of the West (from The Wizard of Oz). Here is an answer from a chemtrail believer - who is Canadian, I'm ashamed to admit (see: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XyR5y12vjLQ ):

Chemtrails are water laced with hormones that affect marine life .... like huge Frogs that keep getting bigger every year ... The Chemfrogs will become a huge problem in the future unless we act now.

That idiot is ignoring that (1) frog populations are mysteriously disappearing all over the world because of air, earth and fresh water pollutants; that (2) frogs are not marine animals and cannot survive in salt water and, of course, that (3) frogs can turn into princes when kissed by a princess.

Such is the intellectual level of your average chemtard.

The problem with is is that that the Chemtrail conspiracy predates You Tube by something like 8 or 9 years, it emerged sometime in the mid to late 90s and grew with the internet.

BTW is it possible that your Chemfrog person was being satirical himself?

I was wondering when you would chime in with your "nothing is related to anything" words of good cheer.

Quoting from Wikipedia, the "conspiracy" began as a hoax in 1996:

The chemtrail conspiracy theory began to circulate in 1996 when the United States Air Force (USAF) was accused of "spraying the US population with mysterious substances" from aircraft "generating unusual contrail patterns". The Air Force says these accusations were a hoax fueled in part by citations to a strategy paper drafted within the Air Force's Air University entitled Weather as a Force Multiplier: Owning the Weather in 2025. The paper was presented in response to a military directive to outline a future strategic weather modification system for the purpose of maintaining the United States' military dominance in the year 2025, and identified as "fictional representations of future situations/scenarios". The Air Force further clarified the paper "does not reflect current military policy, practice, or capability", and that it is "not conducting any weather modification experiments or programs and has no plans to do so in the future. Additionally, the Air Force states that the "'Chemtrail' hoax has been investigated and refuted by many established and accredited universities, scientific organizations, and major media publications."

It had nothing to do at that time with direct observation of the sky. From that moment on, the myth may have festered in the minds of some dispersed mental patients but did not surface again except as an occasional and polymorphic Internet rumour and a topic on sensationalistic radio shows. YouTube was created in 2005 and this exotic delusion became accessible to anyone who could play World of Warcraft. I stand by my theory that the myth became a worldwide phenomenon because of Alex Jones' anonymous shill video for orgone products.

And yes, that Chemfrog person is a genuine chemtard. This is his channel: http://www.youtube.com/user/johnh23 . He is a 9/11 denier who regularly posts videos of Planet Nibiru and UFOs.

It was worldwide before You Tube, among the nuttier denizens of the internet, It didn't start as a hoax, that's the USAF's dismissive description of it. The documents it refers to in wiki, were some war-games, and blue sky thinking about possible future warfare, that some people believed were actually policy, it wasn't the USAF's intention to hoax anybody. This stuff used to be online, not looked for about four years, to see if it still is.

IMO interest in chemtrails has actually fallen, with the true believers, endlessly recycling the same conspiracies. If it had a heyday, it was about 2002-2003.

You've obviously never read Chemtrails Central, if you think this is a recent conspiracy.

Why read anything when I have so much fun decoding you?:D

I never said that the Air Force tried to hoax anybody. It is very clear from what I have just quoted that the Air Force stated that the accusations against itself were a hoax and not that their research papers were hoaxes. Does your joining this debate mean that I will have to repeat everything twice as usual from now on?

Yes, the conspiracy festered like some low-level fever for years on the back pages of the Internet. What I am saying is - and please feel free to contradict me anytime you little heart desires - is that YouTube has given it exponential growth among isolated shut-ins who only go out occasionally to shoot at Holocaust Museums the world over.
