Strange Crimes

I think the circumstances of the crime are rather odd.

A pigeon racing enthusiast allegedly shot dead by a man in drag drove a friend's partner's car to the scene because his friend was banned from driving, a jury has heard.

Keith Walker took his friend Jason O'Connor's pigeons to Blanchardstown Racing Pigeon Club in Clonsilla because the birds were taking part in a race the next day.

Mr Walker was struck by 18 bullets in the club's car park and would have suffered a "rapid death" after he was hit by two bullets to the head, a pathologist said.

Christopher McDonald (34) has pleaded not guilty to the murder of Mr Walker outside the club in Clonsilla on June 12, 2015.

It is the State's case that Mr McDonald, from the East Wall area of Dublin 1, disguised himself as a woman and fatally shot Mr Walker with a submachine gun.

This is horrific... they made him eat his own testicle!:eek::eek:

Two people have been found guilty of murdering a vulnerable man who was tortured for months and forced to eat his own testicle.

Jimmy Prout, 45, was found dead on wasteland near his home in North Shields on 27 March 2016.

A jury heard he was tortured by a group he thought of as friends who subjected him to months of abuse.

Ann Corbett, 26, and Zahid Zaman, 43, both from Percy Main, were found guilty of murder at Newcastle Crown Court.

My Dentist’s Murder Trial
Adultery, false identities, and a lethal sedation: a baroque courtroom drama unfolds in upstate New York.

By James Lasdun

“My dentist was recently indicted for murder.” It sounds like a droll line that you’d use at a dinner party, but in my case it’s true. On October 15, 2015, Dr. Gilberto Nunez, whose patient I had been for many years, was indicted for killing his friend Thomas Kolman, of Saugerties, New York, by getting him “to ingest a substance that caused his death.” There were also two forgery counts: allegedly, Nunez had been posing as a C.I.A. agent. He’d apparently told people that he was authorized to implant tracking devices in patients’ teeth. It wasn’t the kind of news you wanted to hear about your family dentist.

Kolman’s death occurred before dawn on November 29, 2011, in the parking lot of a Planet Fitness gym in Ulster, fifteen minutes south of Saugerties. Kolman, who was forty-four, often stopped at the gym on his way to work. Later that morning, after he failed to show up at the office, his wife, Linda, found his body in the driver’s seat of his car. Four years afterward, Nunez was charged with murder.

According to the prosecutors, Nunez, who is fifty, was having an affair with Linda Kolman. He impersonated a C.I.A. officer as part of a scheme to prod her to abandon her husband. When she ended the affair, Nunez threatened suicide. Eventually, the suicidal impulse turned homicidal. On the morning of Thomas’s death, Nunez met him at the gym. Security-camera footage apparently showed their cars sitting next to each other for twenty-eight minutes, then Nunez’s car pulling away. Midazolam, a sedative used only by doctors and dentists, was found in Thomas’s body, and vials of the drug were discovered in Nunez’s office. A Wikipedia search for midazolam was logged on his computer.

I’d resigned myself to looking for a new dentist, but in April, 2016, I broke a tooth and needed urgent attention. By then, Nunez, having spent forty-one days in the county jail, was out on bail, and I called for an appointment. It wasn’t hard to get one. His office, in Kingston, which neighbors Ulster, was subdued. His son, who worked at the reception desk, looked depressed. So did his office manager, who had assured me with touching (but surely misplaced) loyalty that Dr. Nunez was innocent. ...

Blind Tyrone man caught in cattle barn with rubber glove and broom shaft
This is the blind man caught by a farmer in a cattle barn wearing a balaclava, a vet’s rubber inspection glove and carrying a wooden brush shaft.

The completely bizarre incident came to light last week at Omagh Crown Court where 44-year-old Anthony Morris of Bradkeel Road in Plumbridge was found guilty of intending to cause damage to cattle and theft following a one day trial.

Morris was discovered by a farmer who had gone to investigate noises in his barn in the early hours of the morning on March 18 last year.

He had tried to hide, but the farmer and his brother caught Morris in a cattle pen and pinned him down until police arrived.

While he was being held, Morris, who had a torch strapped to his head and was also carrying blue rope and a pen knife, put on a foreign accent and said: “Me-me-steal-ear-tags. Me-me-look-at-tags.”

But when police arrived they unmasked Morris, who the farmer recognised because he’d done work for him in the past.

He was also wearing a body warmer stolen from the farmer’s lorry weeks earlier — but he denied this too.

During his trial, Morris came up with a host of weird and wonderful excuses for his actions in the cattle barn.

Morris’ crazy claims included:

  • his balaclava, made from the leg of old tracksuit bottoms, was a “face warmer” he had lifted by mistake instead of a woollen cap;
  • the wooden shaft was to help him keep his balance because medication made him dizzy;
  • the rubber glove was already in the body warmer and he used it to clean fungi out of a water barrel; and
  • he always carries a pen knife to open food for his 17 cats.
Morris was originally questioned about cruelty to animals but none of the cattle in the barn were injured and it was not specified in court what the allegations of cruelty involved.

He blamed his presence in the barn on a mystery man who Morris said “forced” him to go to look at ear tags on the cattle because he said the farmer had stolen three cows from him.

Morris said in court the unnamed man who was “a blast from the past” had threatened his 14-year-old son and turned up at his house where he had touched him “with something metal”.

Prosecution barrister Michael McAleer asked him: “Are you going to tell us what it was?”

“No,” Morris said.

“Was it a stick? A bar? A coat hanger?” asked the barrister.

Morris said: “It wasn’t a coat hanger.”

Asked if he had been touched with a gun, Morris said he was.

During his trial Morris had walked with the aid of a stick and claimed to be totally blind in one eye and partially sighted in the other.

He said that he can only see “black blobs” and was diagnosed with limited sight in 2005.

However in another bizarre twist, it emerged that even with his sight problems, Morris had managed to keep riding a motorbike.

Summing up, prosecution said the items Morris was carrying were “like a puzzle in a TV show” and described his explanations as “nonsense”.

Mr McAleer remarked that Morris’ unusual claims were an attempt to “fudge why he was in the barn that night”.

A jury took just an hour to convict Morris of intending to damage cattle and theft of the body warmer and a solar calculator which had been in the pocket.

His extensive criminal record including convictions for burglary, firearms, theft and traffic violations was then revealed.

He will be sentenced next month. Judge Phillip Babington allowed him to remain on bail.

Altercation over a dead raccoon led to rural Mason Co. shooting
by KOMO Staff

Tuesday, June 27th 2017

ALLYN, Wash. - Officials say an altercation over a dead raccoon led to Sunday's shooting in rural Mason County, and they are still looking for a person of interest in the shooting.

Lt. Travis Adams with Mason County Sheriff’s Office said Tuesday the strange incident started as a man was walking along Highway 3 north of Allyn dragging a dead raccoon behind him with a rope.

The man had earlier found the raccoon, which had been hit by a car, and wanted to use it as bait for some type of crab pot. He didn’t want to smell its pungent stench, so he was dragging it about 15 feet behind him.

Some people driving by in a white SUV saw the man and thought he was dragging a dead dog behind him. This upset them, so they pulled over and angrily confronted the man.

At about the same time, one or more people in a black pickup drove by and also had the same false impression that the man was dragging a dead dog. They joined in the altercation, then one of them pulled out a gun and opened fire at the man with the dead raccoon. The man was struck twice in the leg.

The occupants of the white SUV and the black pickup then left the scene. The pickup struck the man who had been shot as it sped away.

(The video below shows the shirtless man dragging the raccoon before he was shot. Video contains some mild profanity toward the end.)

Deputies later tracked down the people in the white SUV and they are cooperating with the investigation. ...

I reckon he swallowed the fingertip.

A man has been arrested after allegedly biting off a wedding guest's fingertip at a reception in Sydney.

The 42-year-old intruder walked into the private function at a pub on Saturday night and tried to steal handbags, the venue said.

When guests confronted him, a scuffle broke out and he severed a 47-year-old man's fingertip, according to police.

The intruder was charged by police with an assault offence. The victim's finger could not be saved, local media said.

Police in India say they have arrested a 60-year-old man who fatally shot his wife for serving his dinner late.

Ashok Kumar came home drunk on Saturday night and got into an argument with his wife, Rupesh Singh, a senior police officer in Ghaziabad city near the capital Delhi, told the BBC.

Sunaina, 55, was taken to hospital with a gunshot wound to her head, but by then she had died, reports said.

Mr Kumar has confessed to his crime and now regrets his actions, Mr Singh said.

However the venue in Melbourne, Australia, has accused police of overreacting, saying that the ‘male victim was not holding anything in his hand’, and that the gun on his person was a toy that he had registered as part of his costume.

Police said they received multiple reports that a man was armed with a gun in an upstairs room at Inflation nightclub before 3am on Saturday.

Dale and Zita Sukys were at the club for the Saints and Sinners swingers event, which Inflation claims it has held for 20 years without incident.

Around 100 people in total were at the party, according to news.com.au.

Officers shot the man and hit him in the torso after he allegedly pulled out a gun. He was also later tasered.

MAN CHARGED IN MAILING OF SEVERED FINGER, FAKE BOMB TO IRS

... An Olympia, Washington man who authorities say mailed one of his fingers to the IRS is now facing federal charges.

The Seattlepi.com reported Monday (https://goo.gl/a1MU1R ) that 68-year-old Normand Lariviere was charged with mailing a threat to injure after IRS workers in Ogden, Utah discovered a package containing a fake bomb July 6.

Charging papers say he also sent his finger, a bullet and a marijuana joint to tax collectors in 2016.

Court documents say Lariviere has been upset with the IRS since he was laid off in the 1990s from his job as a civilian defense contractor.

He began filing grievances with federal agencies related to the Department of Defense, saying he shouldn't have to pay taxes because the government hadn't satisfied his claims. ...

Mansfield radio station hit by 'winker' song hijacker

An adult-themed song has been played on a local radio station in a series of rogue broadcasts.

Mansfield 103.2 has reportedly been targeted eight times in the past month.

Outside broadcasts are being hijacked and replaced with The Winker's Song by comedy band Ivor Biggun.

The station said attempts to catch the culprit had so far failed and some listeners had complained "their children have started humming the song".

Station manager Tony Delahunty said the latest occasion was on Sunday when a live interview from the town's Party in the Market event was interrupted by a male voice shouting, then the song playing.

It's an old rugby-type song with a highly poetic chorus -

I'm a wanker,
I'm a wanker,
And it does me good like it bloody well should
I'm a wanker,
I'm a wanker,
And I'm always pulling my pud.

When it came out as a single in 1978 it was refused airplay by the BBC, who renamed it The Winker's Song.
The crime here is not one of taste but of malicious radio interference.

The station said attempts to catch the culprit had so far failed and some listeners had complained "their children have started humming the song".

Only humming it? Yeah, right.

I never knew that about Robert 'Doc' Cox. But then I had forgotten he existed.

Must have got a laugh or two so he was part way there.

Reminds me of the woman (in the British West Midlands, I seem to remember) who, on her drunken way home from a fancy dress event in a cowgirl costume, jokingly held up a chip shop with her toy gun. The police were called and she was eventually imprisoned for it. As I recall, she appealed but it was refused and she did the time.
A young bloke who used to chef in a restaurant I ended being a manager in pulled the same stunt except with an air rifle and from his balcony .. he'd previously threatened to shoot himself on the beach (via phone call to our boss and presumably with the same air rifle) so the boss told him to go ahead and do it .. because he wasn't going to actually be able to kill himself with an air rifle .. that bloke ended up being arrested from his balcony melt down and was sent to Broadmoor which I though was a bit harsh seeing as it was just an air rifle although he was lucky he wasn't shot .. our country has a very low tolerance to toy, air and real guns on every level except if you're rich and then shotguns are OK it seems ..

our country has a very low tolerance to toy, air and real guns on every level

Yup, at weekend I saw a woman in 'sexy cowgirl' get-up on public transport, complete with real-looking gun in a holster. I was tempted to advise her to stick it in her handbag in case t'Bill spotted it and got arsey, but then I thought naaaah...

Former staff I used to work with (thankfully i was not with them) were on a night out in Preston. One idiot amongst the group was walking around Avenham waving a toy gun around. They had gone by the time the police arrived. he was lucky around there that no-one came out with a real gun and shot him.

I guess this belongs here for the moment. I'll watch out for updates regarding the story.

A teenager has been detained after opening the emergency door of a passenger plane and sliding down a wing onto the tarmac minutes after touching down in San Francisco, officials say.

The boy, 17, shocked passengers on board the Copa Airlines flight from Panama City as he flung the door open before leaping out on Tuesday.

He was confronted by construction staff working nearby and held until police arrived to arrest him.

The boy, a US citizen, was not harmed.

Passengers said the teenager seemed fidgety and anxious throughout the flight and that he had acted very quickly, making it difficult to stop him, according to the Associated Press news agency. ...

POLICE SOLVE 'MYSTERY' OF BEHEADED STATUE IN AUSTRIAN TOWN
Police in Austria thought vandals were responsible after a statue in a town square was beheaded.

Their investigations came to an abrupt end Wednesday when they found out that the statue's creator was the culprit.

Police in the town of Neusiedl am See said the sculptor was acting on the request of a local official, who thought the head of Saint Rosalia was weathered and needed restoring.

But other officials and the townsfolk were not informed, and a resident soon went to police to report the "crime." The artist cleared up the situation after he read about the misunderstanding. ...

This is strange because of the backgrounds of the suspects: a specialist in the causes of Bubonic Plague and an Oxford Finance Officer. Also the police say the duo are likely "armed and dangerous". This would make a great plot for The Blacklist or Blindspot.

A US-wide hunt has intensified for an American professor and an Oxford University employee suspected of stabbing a man to death in Chicago.

Police are urging Prof Wyndham Lathem, 42, and Andrew Warren, 56, to "do the right thing and turn yourself in".

Arrests warrants were issued after Trenton Cornell-Duranleau, 25, was found dead in Prof Lathem's flat in Chicago on 27 July.

Another one which is really out of a Criminal Minds plot. Trying to sell a fashion model on the deep web. I wonder if this is a regular occurrence and if the miscreants get away with it.

A British model was drugged and kidnapped in Milan for a week in July while her captor sought to “auction” her on the internet for €300,000, Italian police confirmed Saturday.

The model, who has not been named, was reportedly sent by her UK agent to Milan for a photo shoot on July 11 and when she arrived at the studio near the city’s central railway station she was anaesthetised with the powerful drug Ketamine injected into her arm.

Her kidnapper, described as a British-Polish man, held her captive for seven days while he sought to “auction” her through networks on the ‘deep web’ of the internet with a starting price of €300,000, police confirmed. ...

They've been captured. Some details of odd behaviour released.

An Oxford University employee suspected in a murder has been arrested alongside his alleged accomplice, a US professor, Chicago police have said.

Andrew Warren, a senior treasury assistant at Somerville College, and Professor Wyndham Lathem of Northwestern University were detained separately in California, more than 3,200km (2,000 miles) from the crime scene, a spokesman said on Friday.

Warren was in San Francisco while Lathem was in Oakland, US Marshals inspector Ed Farrel told the Chicago Tribune. It was not immediately clear how Lathem and Warren had travelled to California.

The men are suspects in the fatal stabbing of a 26-year-old man, Trenton Cornell-Duranleau, in Lathem’s Chicago apartment on 27 July. ...

Police had released few details of the investigation. However, they said on Friday that on the day of the killing – but before the body was discovered – Lathem and Warren drove about 128km (80 miles) north-west to Lake Geneva, Wisconsin, where one of them made a $1,000 cash donation to the public library there in Cornell-Duranleau’s name. Lake Geneva police said the man making the donation did not give his name. “I’ve never seen where suspects in a homicide would make a donation in the victim’s name,” said Lieutenant Edward Gritzner.

Police said Lathem had a personal relationship with Cornell-Duranleau, who moved to Chicago from the Grand Rapids, Michigan, area after receiving his cosmetology licence ...
