Strange Crimes

Dismembered Belgian woman found in floating fridge, son suspected

A 35-year-old man was arrested today on suspicion of killing, dismembering and dumping his mother, Belgian media reported. The 74-year-old Belgian woman's limbs were found in pieces in a floating fridge in the Albert Canal on Tuesday. Her head and torso floated in a storage box in the Meuse.

The son was arrested this morning. He was planning to fly to South Korea at the time.

The fridge with limbs was found in the French-speaking province of Liège on Tuesday. A passer-by saw the fridge floating and brought the appliance ashore. Police were called in as there was a strong smell coming from the fridge. When officers opened the appliance, the woman's arms and legs were found.

The police then searched further for the woman's remaining body parts. Her head and torso were also found in a floating storage box in the Meuse on Tuesday.

Phone call
The police related the find to a phone call made 10 days earlier. A presumably inebriated person called the police saying he had heard that a man had killed his mother, dismembered her and put the body parts in a fridge. In the process, the caller gave the names of these persons.

A search of the woman mentioned in the phone call followed. Neighbours thought she was on holiday to Italy. In reality, the woman was allegedly murdered in her own home around 10 July. The house was then thoroughly cleaned.

The son was immediately linked to the murder. Tomorrow, he will be arraigned before the investigating judge.

Rice is annoying. It is very labour intensive to grow, uses vast amouts of fuel to cook the damn stuff and you have to spend 3 hours cleaning up afterwards.
<-- rice cooking nerd afficionado here!

The answer is... it depends. If it's plain standard Asian white rice the actual boiling/cooking part takes 5 minutes, then it steams with the 'leccy/gas off. Brown rice takes about 20 minutes, red rice depends on the variety - 10-20 mins normally.

Arborio & sticky rice is a bugger but also can be cooked with 15/20 minutes.

I've seen it grown and harvested in Asia and it's manpower heavy, true but has a whole seasonal culture around the planting and harvesting which is fun to be involved in. The industrial scale rice growing in USA & Australia is the bad boy in environmental terms as it's often grown in places without seasonal flood or ice melts with huge amounts of irrigation (unlike Asian rice paddies & terraces).

Belgian police looking for woman who left baby in laundrette

Police in Belgium have issued a search notice for a woman who left a baby in a launderette in Anderlecht, near Brussels, last Saturday. Police were called that day by a local resident, who had found the child.

"When we arrived at the scene, we indeed had to conclude that a very young child, barely three months old, had been left behind," Brussels police said in their appeal.

CCTV footage shows that the woman, whose identity is not yet known, left the baby behind. "She entered the shop with a pram and walked away shortly afterwards, without the pram," police continued. Whether she is the child's mother is still unclear.

In the appeal, police are asking the public if anyone knows who the baby is, or who the parents are. They hope to find the parents or other family members with the appeal. The girl is now temporarily staying in hospital. If no one comes forward, the baby will end up in foster care or shelter, police said.

Bad beehaviour.

Thieves who stole 14 hives containing tens of thousands of bees have cost a honey firm up to £11,000.

Nathan Egerton Evans said some of his best producing colonies in Mynydd y Garth, near Llangollen, Denbighshire, were taken earlier this month. The co-director of West Coast Apiaries believes they were taken in the night by someone who has knowledge of beekeeping.

North Wales Police said it was investigating.

Mr Evans said the thieves cut the fence of the landowner, "very swiftly, came in and made off into the night" sometime between Monday and Wednesday.

He added: "It's got quite a complicated endeavour to sort of put a value on... but we've calculated it's going to cost us somewhere around £10,000 to £11,000."

Police Community Support Officer Iwan Owen said whoever took the hives from Blackwood Lane came prepared.

Listened to this, this morning on the radio.
Great for humour and so on, but it's still a serious theft. Only a professional apiarist could've pulled this off, with some little expense, and they will probably move the swarm from the easily-identifiable hives to others, then sell on.
It's a very close community - commercial apiary - so I think a solution will soon come. They sure as hell can't suddenly 'put a swarm' on the market. They might increase their own spread, but an increase in production will tell among the professionals.

Bee-rustling? What has this world become? We can't brand the little buggers!

It hasn't yet been established if certain former politicians frequent the pub.

Police are investigating after two pig heads were left outside a pub alongside posters making personal allegations about two people.

The apparent protest was made at the Coach and Horses in Birtley, Gateshead, earlier. Posters including various claims about two individuals were stuck to a front door.

"A number of people" are thought to have been responsible before leaving the area, Northumbria Police said.

A spokesman said the incident was being taken "incredibly seriously" and inquiries were "at an early stage"

Bodybuilder livestreams execution of ex-wife before going on shooting rampage: ‘Are you watching?’

Nermin Sulejmanovic, 35, filmed at least three videos documenting the violent spree that left three innocent people dead and three more injured in the northeastern town of Gradacac.

The horror started Friday morning when Sulejmanovic posted a video on Instagram, telling his followers that they would witness a live execution.

He then turns the camera to his ex-wife, whose face is bloodied and disfigured from injuries, [it was] reported.

Look, when you’re dealing with a wh–e who reports you to the police,” he tells his viewers in the chilling clip, as a child can be heard crying in the background.

Officials later said some 12,000 people watched the slaying live.

Sulejmanovic then tells his followers that his ex-wife had reported him to the police for domestic violence.

Here, watch the murder live now, nice and easy … Are you watching?” Sulejmanovic says to the camera before callously firing a bullet into a woman’s forehead.

He then turns the camera to record the child lying on the floor: “Here, someone come and save the child. Moving on.”

The bodybuilder and fitness instructor then filmed at least two more live videos on the social media app while being pursued by the police, telling his viewers that he killed two others off-camera.

The pair was later identified as a man and his young son.

Sulejmanovic committed suicide “after being located and before being apprehended,” police in the city of Tuzla said.

Sulejmanovic also wounded a police officer, another man and a woman at various locations throughout Gradacac while on the lam.

[He] had a criminal record, with past arrests on charges of drug smuggling and attacking a police officer. Sulejmanovic was a member of a drug gang when he was arrested in 2013 for selling marijuana and heroin.

Fiendishly clever of them. They deserve a right dressing down.

Police have interviewed seven male officers over allegations some were pretending to identify as non-binary to claim more money from a clothing allowance scheme.

Victoria police in July launched an investigation into the issue after the allegations surfaced on social media.

“We have unconfirmed reports from inside Victoria Police that management is pulling their hair out after a majority of a CIU (Crime Investigation Unit) in Southern Region changed their profile in the HR system to be ‘gender neutral’,” the Instagram account discernableofficial wrote in June.

Female officers can claim a clothing allowance of about $1,300 more than their male colleagues.

Why would the clothing allowance be greater for females? The policy is flawed and inequal. Same job etc. Therefore same clothing allowance.

Women's clothes are more expensive than men's. It's the pink tax.
That's really because women have more of a tendency to wear designer clothing than men. Most men can't be arsed about buying clothes, when they could spend the money on beer/tools/cars/whatever.

Not really. As Min stated, women's items cost more. Check out any personal item supposedly geared to women, but the identical item sold for men, example shampoo, disposable razors (colour usually pink vs blue), deodorant, tshirts (pretty much a unisex design). I could list many more.

OK, that could be that retailers know that women are prepared to spend more than men on an item, so they could be milking it for extra profit.
Shouldn't be allowed, but how do you stop that happening?

Great question. Women have never had the choice of what the pricing is. In the past much of the shopping was done by women. Station in life and some such:roll:. The merchandisers offer lower prices to apparently drag men kicking and screaming to buy for themselves.

I have bought the "masculine" version of the same items when available.

Sometimes the RRP works against the consumer - retailers might want to charge less. That's why it's called the recommended retail price.

When we stocked a poplar type of dog chew, we saw the recommended price was a mark-up of 70%! We decided to sell 'em for far less, while still making a profit. Once word got out (we didn't publicise it), we were 'taking' the sales away from 'a High Street Chain Store' - and we knew that they got the chews even cheaper through bulk buy.
So we weren't Robin Bastards. We were doing the customers a good deal by ignoring the RRP.

Really, you charge what the market will pay. Some things you get more profit by selling cheap - it increases sales, and the increase in sales, more than compensates for the reduced profit (always remembering that that is 'profit' and not loss). You might get more profit from one sale, but that sale might come few and far between.
So when it comes to 'feminine' branding, it might be exploiting the (false) difference in product, but that is done by the producers, not the retailers. The producers react to a potential market then 'sell' the demand to the retailer.

Go to a wholesalers, get a tray of 12 tins of baked beans. Some brands have the RRP already printed on the label (say, 49p) but the more expensive brands don't.

Police arrest man after dummies taken from babies
Essex Police said pacifiers were taken from babies in Harlow on four occasions.

He's fessed up, apparently he;s never been weaned.

A homeless man in England has admitting stealing dummies from babies in five thefts spanning almost six months, claiming it was to use them to soothe himself in his tent.

Bearded Josh Guilder, who has shoulder-length brown hair and wore a blue polo shirt, pleaded guilty to five counts of theft at a hearing at Chelmsford Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday.

The 23-year-old took the dummies from babies around Harlow, Essex, between February 10th and August 7th this year.

Describing one of the thefts, prosecutor Jessica Pratt Vivian said Guilder reached into a young girl’s buggy, “took her dummy from her mouth, put it in his pocket and left”.

Mary Buxton, defending, said Guilder was currently living in a tent and “has never been weaned from dummies”.

“He uses a dummy to soothe himself,” she said.
