Conspiracy - War on Terror Forum

They seem to target the sad and the mad rather than the really dangerous. Cutting corners may allow real jihadis to get away.

That's probably true. As ever quick wins are attractive to anyone trying to meet targets...

A Canadian couple convicted of a terrorism plot will be set free after a judge ruled they had been entrapped in a police sting operation.

John Nuttall and Amanda Korody were found guilty of planting pressure cooker bombs at the British Columbia legislature on Canada Day in 2013.

A judge said police manipulated the couple into carrying out the attack.

The pair did not have the mental capacity plan the attack on their own, the judge added.

"The world has enough terrorists. We do not need the police to create more out of marginalized people," British Columbia Supreme Court Justice Catherine Bruce wrote in her ruling.

Nuttall and Korody, two Canadian-born citizens, were convicted in 2015 on three terrorism-related charges, including conspiracy to commit murder and possessing explosive devices for a terrorist group.

The couple faced life in prison.

However, their convictions were not registered after defence lawyers argued that police had entrapped the couple.

The Royal Canadian Mounted Police, the country's national police, undertook a months-long, undercover sting operation that ended in the couple's arrest.

But Judge Bruce said the police made an "enormous effort" to assist the couple in carrying out the attack.

"The defendants were the foot soldiers but the undercover officer was the leader of the group," the judge said.

German police have detained two people after a series of raids against far-right suspects accused of plotting attacks on refugees, Jews and police officers.

Several of those targeted were considered close to the so-called Reichsbürger (Citizens of the Reich) movement, a shadowy extremist group whose members reject the legitimacy of the German republic.

The chief suspect is a 62-year-old self-proclaimed Celtic druid, who had called for violence against Muslims and Jews in online posts, the DPA news agency and other media reported.

Police swooped on 12 homes and other sites in six states, including Berlin, as part of a federal investigation based on suspicions individuals formed a rightwing extremist organisation, the prosecutor’s office said.

The officers confiscated a variety of weapons including explosives, a spokeswoman said. ...

This is a bit scary:

18.000 German "Reichbürger" citizens don't recognize the German state. In 2016 it was 10.000.

On October 27, 2016, a Bavarian police officer was suspended from his duties because of his connections to one of the Reichsbürger movements. There have been allegations of similar kind against other police officers in different states of Germany as well.

Reminiscent of the 30's.

However I will add that having visited Germany for several weeks I found the people to be amongst the nicest in any country I visited, but there's always a few bad apples.

Reminiscent of the 30's.
Lets hope not. We all know what that lead to! However as I recall Germany has been beset by terrorist gangs-orgamigations since the 70's i.e.:Baader-Meinhof Gang, neo-nazi's, etc..

Hopefully it's just something like the Freemen movement.

So the Basic Treaty is similar to the 2nd amendment - open to selective interpretation then?
