Two cats die after four poisoned
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/scot ... 329789.stm

The Scottish SPCA has appealed for information about the poisoning
A pet owner has been left devastated after her four cats were poisoned with a banned pesticide in Cumnock, Ayrshire.

Two of animals died after ingesting the highly toxic substance, Carbofuran. The other two survived the poisoning.

Animal welfare officers said they believed the cats were deliberately targeted.

They have appealed for information from the public to help identify those involved.

The cats, who died on 13 September, belonged to 17-year-old Stacey Galloway from Townhead Street.

Her mother Margaret Galloway told the BBC Scotland news website: "Stacey is in such a state over this. She is devastated.

"It is absolutely shocking that someone would do this to small innocent animals.

If a cat rolled in Carbofuran and then went home and a small child touched and ingested the substance then it could be fatal

Ch Supt Mike Flynn
Scottish SPCA
"Whoever did this needs to be caught and face some sort of punishment."

Carbofuran has been banned since 2001.

It is highly toxic to animals and humans and can pose a risk through swallowing, eye contact and from breathing in the dust. It is recognisable by its distinct purple granules.

Chf Supt Mike Flynn from the Scottish SPCA said:"Due to the type of poison used in this case, we suspect that it has been a deliberate act.

"We are therefore asking people to contact us with information to help us identify who has caused the death of these much loved pets.

"This poison is extremely dangerous. If a cat rolled in Carbofuran and then went home and a small child touched and ingested the substance then it could be fatal and the police would be looking at an even worse crime."

He added: "It is an offence to knowingly poison an animal and anyone found guilty of doing so can expect to face up to six months in jail, a £5,000 fine or both."

I feel really mad about this. Why disn't she get a water pistol? That would have kept them out of her garden.

Neighbour killed cats with poison
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/scot ... 330414.stm

Katherine Hall poisoned the cats to stop them urinating on her stawberries
A woman who killed her neighbour's Abyssinian cats with tuna laced with anti-freeze has been ordered to pay £1,500 in compensation.

Katherine Hall, 57, from Airth, near Falkirk, said she had acted to stop the pets from urinating on her strawberries.

Falkirk Sheriff Court heard that the five-and-a-half year old felines died in agony days later.

The cats owner, Andrew Boyd, described the sentence as a "disgrace".

When Mr Boyd contact police after the vet told him his cats had been poisoned, officers found the remnants of the deadly meal and a cat-scaring machine still in Hall's garden

Hall was found guilty of causing unnecessary suffering to the pets, named Nush and Mr Baz, by feeding them a drug or substance knowing it to be poisonous or injurious.

'More severe'

Defence agent Murray Aitken said: "Mrs Hall knows she put out the tuna, and she highly regrets that decision.

"She's had death threats because of it, and it's negatively affected her health, so it's definitely a decision that will live with her for the rest of her life."

During the proceedings it emerged that the pedigree animals were valued at £700 each.

Mr Baz and Nush died after eating the tuna laced with anti-freeze
Sheriff Craig Caldwell ordered Hall to pay Mr Boyd £1,500 in compensation, but stopped short of imposing a fine or calling for background reports as a preliminary to imposing community service or jail.

He told her: "I take a dim view of cruelty to animals, and you should have known mixing tuna with anti-freeze would cause serious damage."

Mr Boyd said he and his wife Wilma had been devastated by the deaths of their pets and said Hall had got off lightly.

He said he had paid more than £500 in vet bills to try and save the animals, which were put to sleep on 2 and 6 October 2008.

He said: "I think the punishment should have been more severe.

"I don't want to see anyone going to jail, but she should have been banned from having animals, and given community service at least.

"I just wonder what kind of person does that sort of thing. People need to stop getting away with this.

"The sentence was a disgrace. Money was the last thing I wanted out of this."

Chickens killed and pigs tortured in rampage

June 10, 2010

Chickens were killed and pigs tortured during a violent rampage at a property in Twyford.

During the vicious attack yesterday one chicken was set alight, others were torn apart and several had their necks broken.

Some pigs were also injured and it is thought they were beaten with a wooden post.

The attackers are believed to have broken into the property in Floral Mile on motorbikes between 11am and 3pm.

Neighbourhood Specialist Officer PC Terry Neblett is keen to talk to anyone who saw or heard anything which may help the investigation.

He said: “This is worrying, especially as there does not seem to be a motive to this attack.

“It is important that anyone who knows who may be responsible should contact me as soon as possible.”

Anyone with any information should contact PC Neblett via 08458 505 505 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

There is a song called "F**k Ted Nugent" by a U.S. punk band, can't remember which one now. Its because he also likes to kill penned in wild animals for no reason whatsoever. Just Googled it, it was Goldfinger.

In fact, its on You Tube, just don't expect searing wit and insight!

Nugent is a complete and utter cock end! What a nasty piece of shit.

I was watching the footie in the communal lounge tonight when a neighbour turned up, followed by a cat.

Turned out the cat was his, inherited from a friend. The friend had been getting aggro from one of his neighbours, who, (amongst other things) had poured petrol over the cat and tried to set it on fire.

I'm happy to say that the cat is now safe and well, and very sociable. It even cuddled up to me, which none of the other cats around here have done!

I too love cats, but... are you sure that the whole petrol thing wasn't a bit of a mis-heard joke? What I mean is... "How do you make a cat bark? Pour petrol over it and light it and watch it go "WHOOOOF!"". :?
*Has a million photos of kittens and cats, but owns none as she has a fragile heart when it comes to pets.*

Don't think so. The new owner is quite old; he used to own a dog, but had to pass it on after suffering a couple of strokes. So I doubt he'd take on a new pet without a good reason.

Sheep set on fire on Sussex farm
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/england/sussex/10425123.stm

Police have appealed for information after a sheep was deliberately set on fire on a Sussex farm.

The burned body of the animal was found by a worker at Gote Farm near Ringmer at 0900 BST on Wednesday.

Sussex Police said the perpetrators covered the sheep in hay, before setting it alight and dumping it in a bale feeder.

Officers said they did not know if the animal was alive when it was set alight.

Pc Gareth Evans said: "This is an extremely cruel crime and we are keen to find out any information which may lead us to the person or people who carried out this callous act.

"There are many public footpaths in the area and someone walking nearby may have noticed something suspicious."

Parasailing donkey stunt sparks police inquiry

Police in southern Russia are investigating allegations of animal cruelty after a donkey was made to parasail as part of an advertising stunt, Russian media report.

The donkey was sent up into the sky last week by entrepreneurs hoping to attract people to their private beach.

Witnesses near the beach on the Sea of Azov in the Krasnodar region said the animal had been screaming in fear.

It landed in the water and was pulled onto the shore, said police.

"The donkey screamed and children cried," regional police spokeswoman Larisa Tuchkova told AFP news agency.

"No-one had the brains to call police."

Instead, bystanders took photos and phoned newspapers, she said.

"It was put up so high into the sky that the children on the beach cried and asked their parents: 'Why did they tie a doggy to a parachute?'" Taman newspaper reported last week.

"The donkey landed in an atrocious manner: it was dragged several metres along the water, after which the animal was pulled out half-alive onto the shore," the paper reported.

Police began to investigate after the incident, which occurred at the coastal village of Golubitskaya, was aired on national news on Tuesday.

The businessmen responsible may face criminal charges for animal cruelty, according to news agency RIA-Novosti.

Wallaby found decapitated at Tockington park
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-bristol-11507095

An investigation is under way after a wallaby was found decapitated at a country park in South Gloucestershire.

Avon and Somerset police said the animal's body was discovered at Old Down Country Park in Tockington. It is believed to have been attacked on Tuesday night.

The park is home to animals including alpacas, Shetland ponies, pigs and goats.

A police spokeswoman said: "There is no doubt that this was a deliberate act."

Neighbourhood Sgt Louise Boyce said: "It was not an attack by another animal.

"The park is very popular with families and supports local community events. Staff are understandably shocked and upset.

"This sort of cruelty is deeply disturbing and I would urge anyone who can help us find the person or people responsible to get in touch."

Kangaroo cruelty at party investigated

The general manager of a hotel at which a baby kangaroo was reportedly released onto a dance floor at a function, has today expressed his outrage over the incident.

Gardaí are investigating the incident which took place during a birthday party held at the Clarion Hotel in Liffey Valley on Saturday.

According to reports, the animal was let in into the packed function room while a DJ played the theme tune to the television programme 'Skippy the bush Kangaroo.'

The Clarion's general manager Garret Marrinan confirmed the incident this morning and said the hotel had passed on CCTV footage to the gardaí.

"We had a 30th birthday here in the hotel with between 150 and 200 guests and at about 11pm at night the duty manager noticed a group of people hovering on the dance floor. He went to investigate and noticed some kind of a strange animal coming out of a box and shortly after going back into it," said Mr Marrinan.

"He wasn't sure what it was exactly but, because we have a no pets policy in the hotel, [he] called security who forced the people who brought the box in to take it out of the hotel," he added.

Mr Marrinan said he did not know the animal was a kangaroo until contacted by gardaí today. He added the hotel was "offering every assistance possible" to officers.

"We're horrified by this. We would do two or three parties a week and up to now, they've all been normal events. Absolutely nothing like this has happened before, either here or at other Clarion hotels and this is something we don't want to be associated with."

"We're not very happy about this. We don’t condone it and we don’t think it is acceptable at all,” he added.

The Dublin Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (DSPCA) has appealed for more information on the incident.

Speaking on RTÉ's Morning Ireland , DSPCA operations manager Orla Aungier said the society had received a number of calls about the incident, including from some individuals who had attended the party.

She said some callers had heard the animal had died following the party but she said the society was unable to confirm it.

"We know that the animal was videoed and you can imagine the fear and stress it must have felt. It is completely unacceptable that an animal would be used in this way," she said.

Ms Aungier said the DSPCA had passed on information it had received to gardaí.

Marsupial may have come from local circus

CONOR LALLY, Crime Correspondent

Thu, Oct 21, 2010

GARDAÍ ARE investigating reports that a marsupial brought into a disco in west Dublin at the weekend in an apparent practical joke was sourced in the Co Cavan area.

However, gardaí are also trying to establish if somebody took one of two kangaroos from a circus near the hotel where the incident happened and managed to return it before the owners realised the animal was gone.

There are also wallabies on Lambay Island off the coast of Dublin and this is being treated as another possible source location for the animal brought to the hotel on Saturday night.

The wallabies have been breeding on the island since the 1980s when they were introduced there to alleviate overcrowding at Dublin Zoo.

Garda sources said it was still unclear where the animal had come from or been taken to after the incident at a 30th birthday party at the Clarion Hotel, Liffey Valley.

“We’ve spoken to a lot of people who were at the party but nobody has told us where the animal came from or what happened to it afterwards,” said one Garda source.

The investigating team at Ronanstown Garda station is now studying CCTV taken from inside and outside the hotel in the hope it might reveal the identity of those who brought the animal to the event.

Gardaí are hopeful the CCTV might also show whether the animal was brought there or taken away in a vehicle.

The same sources said there were many unconfirmed reports that the animal had been given ecstasy or alcohol and had died as a result or because of the stress of being brought into the party.

Some information suggested the animal had died and been taken away, possibly into the Dublin mountains, and buried.

Gardaí said many of those at the party had not been fully co-operative and it was still unclear what had happened.

Video footage recorded on a mobile telephone showed one reveller picking the animal up and robustly handling it as a group of partygoers danced around in a circle on the dance floor.

Gardaí and the Dublin Society of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals said they had been contacted by a number of people who were at the party and who were distressed by the presence of the animal.

Orla Aungier of the DSPCA said the animal, which she believed was a wallaby, would have found the noise, lights and large numbers at the party “very stressful”. She said it was possible the animal had become injured or had died as a result of the experience.

In the Republic exotic animals are not banned.

However, mistreating animals, including causing them undue stress, is a criminal offence and has resulted in convictions in the past.

Cruelty charge for marinating cat
http://www.irishtimes.com/newspaper/wor ... 35798.html

NEW YORK – A western New York state man appeared in court yesterday to face animal cruelty charges after trying to marinate his cat so he could eat it, authorities said.

Police discovered the cat in the boot of a car being driven by Gary Korkuc, of Cheektowaga, New York, when they pulled him over for running a stop sign in August, Buffalo Police spokesman Michael DeGeorge said.

He fled to Maryland following his arrest but was extradited back to Buffalo late on Thursday. The cat survived. – (Reuters)

The front leg of a missing cat has been left on the pet owner's doorstep in Buckinghamshire.

Darren Stratfull's cat Rocky had gone missing from the family home in Puffin Way, Aylesbury, three weeks earlier.

The family had posted flyers in the area and asked residents if anyone had seen the eight-month-old cat.

But then Mr Stratfull discovered the animal's front leg in a plastic bag on his doorstep. He said: "It was quite shocking".

He added: "The fur was a kind of blue cream colour, which matches the colour of Rocky, and so I am 90% certain that it is her.

"However, I am not sure why someone would leave this on our doorstep.

"It could be that they had heard we were missing our cat, discovered the limb, and then decided to leave it to show that they had found her. Or it could be something more sinister."

The RSPCA is investigating the incident, which happened on 23 March, and is appealing for information.

Inspector Martin Rivett said: "We have no idea why someone would leave the cat leg on the doorstep, and we just hope that there is someone out there who can explain why this has happened."

Infant pygmy goats stolen from Easingwold Maize Maze

The owner of the three goats fears they could die if they are not reunited with their mother

Three pygmy goats have been stolen from a North Yorkshire tourist attraction.

The goats, born on 6 August, were taken from their mother at Easingwold Maize Maze, between York and Thirsk, on Sunday 4 September.

The owner of the attraction, Paul Caygill, said the animals could not survive without being fed by their mother.

North Yorkshire police described the theft as a "thoughtless crime" and said the goats must be returned.

The maze is created each year by Mr Caygill, who farms locally, and is open to the public for six weeks during the summer.

Mr Caygill said: "This is a very desperate and sad situation. The goats have been stolen from their mother from whom they are still feeding and if they are not fed soon they will die."

North Yorkshire Police said the animals would be extremely hungry and needed to be returned so they could be cared for in the correct environment.

How sad, poor wee goatlings :(

Most people have no idea how much time and attention it takes to raise animals away from their mothers; their outlook isn't good...

Some sort of sicko one imagines?

Dog biscuits laced with potentially fatal rat poison have been found in a Leeds park, police have confirmed.

Dog walkers who have exercised their pets in Churwell Park, Morley, since Sunday morning are urged to take their animals to a veterinary surgery for a precautionary check-up.

The poison could prove fatal to animals if they are not treated within 24 hours.

Inspector Paul Sullivan, who leads the Morley Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: “I would advise all dog owners using the park to keep your dog on a lead until the area is fully checked and any suspected hazardous products removed.

“These incidents are utterly shocking and callous, and I would encourage anyone who has witnessed suspicious activity in Churwell Park in the last couple of days to come forward as soon as possible.

“Incidents of this nature are offences under the Animal Welfare Act, and anyone found guilty faces as fine of up to £20,000 and possibly six months in prison.

“We will be pursuing these incidents vigorously, and anyone responsible can expect to face the full force of the law.”

No it's not!

Sharks kill to eat, but not one human being would starve if Sharks fin soup was off the menu.

To mutilate an animal and leave it to die is barbaric.

I'm not saying I approve of shark finning. There should be more laws against it. It could cause an imbalance in ocean populations.

It's just different to see a shark on the receiving end for once, they're happy enough to bite other animals in half.

Can't imagine a happy shark! Have you ever heard a shark laugh? They just do what their instincts tell them, there's nothing malicious about it. Seeing emotions that aren't there in animals is a bit dodgy.

Police: Dog given LSD euthanized, couple that ran naked charged
By George Mathis

Snellville police Capt. Harold Thomas said Nicholas Modrich and Jamie Hughes, both 25, were released from a hospital and booked into Gwinnett County Detention Center on Tuesday night.

Both were charged with misdemeanor possession of less than an ounce of marijuana, possession of a drug-related object and public indecency, police said.

Modrich also was charged with simple battery because a witness saw him forcefully pull Hughes' hair, police said.

Thomas said Snellville police were alerted to the situation by reports of a naked man and woman running along Pinehurst Road at about 8 p.m. Sunday. The couple fled to their home in the 2100 block of Pinehurst Road and Modrich answered the door naked after police knocked, Thomas said.

"They were tripping pretty hard," Thomas said.

During questioning, the man and woman said they had taken LSD and had given some to Oscar, who was missing. Police determined Oscar was a dog and began a search, but soon learned the animal had been hit by a vehicle on a nearby road.

After being hit, Oscar bit Modrich's mother and brother, Thomas said.

Gwinnett Animal Control took possession of the animal, but Modrich's family requested the dog be taken to a private veterinarian, police said. For reasons that were not available Tuesday night, the dog was put down.

Test results are pending for the canine, police said. If they show LSD in the animal's system, Modrich and Hughes also could be charged with animal cruelty.

Inside the home, police found a bong, marijuana and Gummi worms, which were allegedly used to take the LSD, Thomas said. No LSD was found in the home.

I can't stand most dogs, and definitely think that their owners should clean up their poop in public places. But I'd never harm a dog, either.
