Right then mine should arrive in a couple of weeks!!! Bloody post. :(

Blimey! Is it that time of the month already? I stand waiting...

Hang on a minute there people you have FT193, i havn't even got 192 yet. Blasted newsagents its always the same at christmas i always seem to lose out on the december issue.

Yeah I got mine.......only a week after the last issue!!!!!

And by the look of it the Heirophant's gone missing!

My brother is still waiting for the last issue to arrive!

Got mine this morning and I've read most of it - the Templar mystery is a favourite of mine! :D

Mine was waiting for me when I got home.
*rolls up sleeves and settles in for a good read and dissection!*

Got mine - includes one of my letters - but attributed to an entirely different name! Same forename - but surname is entirely different. Unless...someone from the same location with the same forename wrote an identical letter with the same circumstances. No, surely that could not be the case...

Looks like this edition is following in the line of a number of excellent recent editions. Am I the only one who thinks that recent editions have been of particularly excellent quality?

Very good edition I thought.
With the picture of the 'final resting place of Mary Magdalene' the caption says that the BVM is looking on. Am I being thick as I don't see where?

I don't know a great deal about the Knights Templer and I would have like a breif history of them. I find this can be a problem with a few of the articales. It is assumed that you have a certain amount of knowledge. Ok you don't want it full of stuff that most people already know but a little box of brief history with the articale would be helpful. A while ago there was a a piece about the 'Son of Sam' killings. as I had never heard of them I didn't get much from the articale!

Middle right hand side is the Virgin records logo, not as clear on the reproduction in the mag as I would have liked, but what the heck it made me laugh when I got to the pyramid

Can I ask, in the Coming Next Month section, (on the last page of the magazine), what the proposed features for FT 194 will be?

Thanks in advance.

Polterdog.

[edit: Nearly as soon as I posted this the postie came without a FT :(

As soon as a little doubt had been allowed to creep into my soul it mysterious appeared!! Woooooooo.]

The Hertford 'Modern Day' Templar article is a real hoot! The awfully atmospheric photographs of the twins who allege to be in a modern Templar organisation - complete with sinister expressions - are hilarious! At least we can see they get their 'Ceremonial' swords from places like Battle Orders - if they want to have a custom made sword (make it a bit more original) I can put them in touch with an excellent weaponsmith!

I've never read such a jumbled mish-mash of half-remembered history, speculation, complete fabrication and legend for a heck of a long time.

Marvellous! Bloody marvellous!

giraffe necked women, thailands oddest refugees
caledonian cannibals, in search of sawney bean
disappearing acts, spontaneously vanishing people
;)

Perhaps the people vanished ... after visiting Mister Bean and his culinary carve-up?

Hmmm...

Uncle Owen's Magic Milk Float...

Didn't they have a hit record back in the Sixties?

[edit]And I still don't know why quot* and endquot* don't seem to work for me...

Try using square brackets quote and /quote.

Hang on a minute ... they don't seem to be working for you either.
:hah:

fLeebLe,

Many thanks.

Now we know why we have so many weapons adverts ;)

The mention of the Illuminati made me realise the second picture looks awfully familiar.

The Sky One documentary "Conspiracies" did a piece on the Illuminati in which part of it invovled an awfully large amount of pissing about waiting for a member of the Illuminati to show up which neve happened. The "fixer" is the spit of that twin so I did a bit of looking around and where was it filmed?

Hertfod:

British TV documentary traces Illuminati insider to Hertford

"The Insider" mailing list article, 16 September 2004.

*** A major regional newspaper in Britain reveals that an investigation as part of a forthcoming television documentary has traced a member of the Illuminati to Hertford, a small affluent town in the rural county of Hertfordshire, located on the northern boundary of London. The previous edition of the same weekly newspaper reported recently uncovered local connections with the Knights Templar, a powerful sect with roots dating back at least as far as the medieval Crusades. The documentary is due to be broadcast in the UK at 9 PM on Thursday, 23 September, on Rupert Murdoch's flagship Satellite TV Channel, Sky One. ***

A SINISTER secret society said to control the world’s governments has members living in Hertford, according to a documentary to be aired on Sky One next week.

The Mercury can exclusively reveal that it will claim the mysterious sect, the Illuminati, rumoured to involve bankers, power brokers and politicians, may have an underground base in the town.

Formed in Bavaria in 1776, the group’s high-powered members are said to include George W Bush and his presidential rival John Kerry, who joined Yale University’s Skull and Bones club, a branch of the sect.

Conspiracy theorists claim that the society is “bent on world domination” in a shadowy behind-the-scenes bid to control us.

As part of Sky’s series on conspiracy theories, journalist Danny Wallace met with Hertford man and insider Tim Acheson, in a bid to meet an Illuminatus.

Tim belongs to a high-ranking family in the Knights Templar, a powerful society of warrior monks which dates back to the Crusades — and who still meet at a secret location in the town.

But he denied a link with former US Secretary of State Dean Acheson, a well-known Templar, who was in President Harry S Truman’s inner circle during the 1950s.

Cryptically, he told the Mercury: “I cannot talk about my family connections. The older members of secret societies want to keep them secret, whereas some of the new blood is a bit more open.

“I do know two members of the Illuminati who live here, but I must protect their identities.

“There are powerful and dangerous forces at work here and I cannot risk getting on the wrong side of them.”

The Mercury was given a sneak preview of The Illuminati — Our Secret Masters, which will be aired on Sky One next Thursday at 9pm.

Tim, a reporter for conspiracy theory website www.theinsider.org, is seen driving through Bull Plain, Fore Street, Railway Street and St Andrew Street in Hertford with the TV presenter.

They drive to a deserted industrial estate near the town and wait for the shadowy figure to turn up — but Wilson begins to think that he’s been led on a wild goose chase.

Finally Tim returns to say his contact has “got cold feet” and backed off meeting the press.

Speaking to the Mercury this week, Tim said: “It is very difficult to get them to reveal themselves, as you can understand, but I hope that it may happen at a later date.”

And he promised to reveal more of Hertford’s hidden secrets. He said: “Hertford is very important as a centre of mystery and intrigue, more than most people realise.”

Next week’s programme is one in a four-part series on conspiracy theories showing every Thursday in September.

Picture: Secret past? Egyptian House in Fore Street, now home to Lussmans Eatery, is believed to have been a meeting place of secret society the Knights Templar of Aquarius.

ROYSTON Cave may hold the key in the search for the Holy Grail, the famous quest for Christ’s chalice dating back to Biblical times.
Grail hunters are set to flock to the historic site following the publication of best-selling novel The Da Vinci Code, by Dan Brown.
The book has fuelled enormous interest in the grail, believed to have been used by Christ at the Last Supper and by Joseph of Arimathea to collect Christ’s blood on the cross.
On the trail are places where ancient fellowship of warriors the Knights Templar held sway — and Royston Cave is just one of the places in Hertfordshire which is steeped in Templar lore.
Unexcavated parts of the popular attraction may hold clues to the mystery and some people think there is a distinct possibility the ancient relic is hidden in one of the unexplored caverns.

Tim Acheson eh?

In fact Tim is listed as a "a reporter for conspiracy theory website http://www.theinsider.org" which is the source for that reproduction of that article.

Now far be it for me to cast aspersions but is it possible that there is some variety of chain yanking going on here?

As the FBI article claims they are connected with letters to the vatican asking for apologies and all sorts of business.

He is obviously mentioned in the reports in the Templar tunnel thread (again the first post quotes from the Insider's reproductions of the local newspaper reports):

www.forteantimes.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=18237

and in the attempt to squeeze an apology out of the Vatican:

Hertford Templar Tim Acheson, who is descended from the Scottish Acheson family that has established Templar links and whose family lived until recently in Bailey Hall, Hertford, said: “This letter is a serious attempt by a Templar group which traces its roots back to the medieval Order to solicit an apology from the Papacy.”

He added: “The Papacy and the Kingdom of France conspired to destroy the Order for reasons which modern historians judge to be primarily political. Their methods and motives are now universally regarded as brutal, unfair and unjustified.

“The Knights Templar officially ceased to exist in the early 1300s, but the order continued underground. It was a huge organisation and the vast majority of Templars survived the persecution, including most of their leaders, along with much of their treasure and, most importantly, their original values and traditions.”

www.forteantimes.com/forum/viewtopic.ph ... 563#469563

In fact in this garudian article he is given credit for organising the whole thing (that also sound slike the same sports car):

The man who has persuaded the Vatican to consider apologising, Tim Acheson, meets the Guardian in icy morning fog in Hertford, wearing smart pinstriped trousers and a thick winter overcoat. His midnight-blue sports car is parked nearby. "As you might expect," he says, setting the tone for the day, "there are going to be some things that I'm not able to discuss."

Acheson claims to trace his ancestry to a renowned Scottish Templar family of the same name, though he won't confirm his own role in the group. Might he just be a practical joker who managed to fool the Vatican? "That could well be, couldn't it?" he says, as we order coffee in a Hertford establishment closely modelled on All Bar One. "I can't tell you anything to prove that I'm not. I think that would be a perfectly reasonable theory."

The article goes on to look into the tunnels and finds no evidence for them when they ask around.

I wonder if this request for an apology is coming fom the same guy who "leaked" the news about Templar tunnels under Hertford.

http://www.abovetopsecret.com/forum/thread87170/pg1

If so, this is probably nothing more than a publicity stunt for this guy's website.

If it is the same guy Tim Acheson, it should be noted that this is the top story on his site at the moment.

http://www.theinsider.org/mailing/article.asp?id=728

It should also be noted that the guy quotes himself and connects himself to the story.

Leveller, very interesting angle!

Could Tim Acheson be the Templar equivalent of Angelyne in the shadowy world of secret societies?

More to the point, is such a personality really compatible with the idea of a "secret society"?

Oh my, I must ponder this conundrum over tea straightaway!

There is also some great discussion over at Discover Hertford Online as the poster TVA knows an awful lot about Tim Acheson (although they deny they are him).

[edit: There is also anothr thread started by TVA at Ware Online.

I forgot to mention that Tim Acheson's middle initial is said to be V.]

There is also an odd thread at JoinMe.

And just to finish off with the last dregs of my Googling:

He is mentioned on Amazon (.co.uk and .com) listed as a journalist or independent researcher specialising in conspiracy related books:

www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/cm/member ... O9WJ9ZX3N/

www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/tg/cm/memb ... O9WJ9ZX3N/

This is a cache version of someone else's site which oddly is our front page which contains the breaking news which is now here:
www.forteantimes.com/breaking_news/news_2004_10.shtml

and it appears he has dropped in a link to the news story pointing to his own website version of it.

Oh and a WhoIs lookup on theinsider.org gives the registrant as a Tim Acheson.

It's funny how we never see both the twins at the same time.

Forget the conspiracy ... are we looking at a blatant cashing in on the HBHG/DaVC moneymaking machine?
*sigh*
What a cynic I am.

Emps

great detective work -

sounds like a follow-up to the FT193 article is in order.

Mal: Cheers - I'll get a letter off to the mag later today.

To be honest we've never seen the other twin - I did find him listed on Amazon.com

I found another debate - interestingly the "Alert" user appears to have an email address connecting him with The Insider (as you can see from the replies) which include this exchange - Alert is the last poster - the first is a quote from the Mercury article he initially posted):

= = And he promised to reveal more of Hertford's hidden
= = secrets. He said: "Hertford is very important as a centre
= = of mystery and intrigue, more than most people realise."
=
= Somebodies got a good advertiser, is he related to Inger?
=

No doubt it will be good for esoteric tourism.

I suspect Polterdog is looking for news of their article.

Dave - fLeebLe's perfectly safe ... as long as you keep your arms and legs away from his mouth.*

Apparently, editors are very, very, elusive prey. Oh, sure, they pop out their holes every once in a while to post the occassional online message but have you ever tried to track one down? Nigh on impossible, I tell you. They employ more tricks than a hound-chased fox in trying to elude the inquiring writer -- and I'm not even asking for a paycheck. Well, not anyway, yet. :)

Nope. I guess, all I can do is sit outside his hole and wait.

*Polterdog, chin on paws, lies down outside the Sutton hole to wait*

*Polterdog waits...and waits...and waits...*
