A new show on NBC that highlights the lives of people that are developing or have special abilities. I watched it last night and I think it looks pretty good. Did anyone else watch it and what did you think?

I read a preview of it in SFX and it sounds intriguing. I'm sure Sky will snatch it up soon.

A good write up in the Garudian:

What's the most effective way to introduce viewers to an integral member of a new group of superheroes destined to save the world from unimaginable evil? Obviously, the correct answer is to spend a few minutes watching her writhing around in bed as part of her job as an internet stripper just before she finds out that her reflection is actually her ass-kicking alter ago. Similarly, we wouldn't be able to fully invest ourselves in the revelations experienced by the hot blonde cheerleader if we didn't see her test her innate indestructibility by running into blazing infernos and jumping off buildings, emerging unhurt with only her tight cheerleader uniform exhibiting signs of being scorched and ripped to shreds.

And - don't worry, I know I'm labouring the point here - could we really empathise with the Japanese salaryman's astonishment over his new-found superpowers if we didn't see him teleport into the ladies' toilet? I think I'm saying the new NBC drama Heroes knows its audience. What my misleadingly salacious introduction failed to emphasise is that this is probably the closest network TV has ever got to making a superhero show that works. I can't remember a year when there were as many good films as there currently are high-quality TV shows but one area where the small screen has always been found pathetically lacking is the superhero show.

Budgetary constraints, time crunches and wooden performers have continually conspired to produce series that diminish their characters. From the old Batman episodes, through The Hulk, Wonder Woman, The Flash, Lois & Clark and all the way up to Smallville, you always come away feeling shortchanged. Heroes' first big advantage is that it's not based on an existing property so it doesn't have to deal with the two main weapons in the geek armoury: preconceptions and prejudice. No one has Man Of Steel-like powers that are doomed to be rendered pitiful by weak CGI effects. Also, unlike the overcrowded X-Men movies, Heroes gives its ensemble room to breathe, taking time to establish its characters and hinting at intriguing backstories (ie: the smooth-but-deadly guy heading up the conspiracy to nip the emerging heroes in the bud is, possibly unknown to himself, the adoptive father of Little Miss Perkily Indestructible). Culthood is unquestionable, long-term mainstream success less so but for anyone who, like me, walked out of M Night Shyamalan's Unbreakable wanting to see more, Heroes grants that wish on a weekly basis.

I read somewhere that Sci-Fi had snaffled it. But I find that hard to believe since this is a show that E4 and Sky One would likely have entered a bidding war on.

well i am really enjoying it so far. I hope you guys get it soon.

*I hope not. I watched the channel for the first time in a year last week, I swear that somehow, the ad break count has increased! Scratch your arse or blink and you miss the the show, just more ads...ZZzzz

I will say if i didn't have my DVR I would find it extremely annoying. Honestly i record everything now and just FF all ads.

It's running on Sci-Fi here.

Loved the first episode, but it's probably too non-linear to last.

Watch with Kristin: Video Clip
Vine Show
We think Heroes star Masi Oka is A-okay!
When the kind folks at Heroes invited me to guest star on Monday night's episode, I thought it was the coolest thing that had ever happened on planet Earth. So, I repaid them by bitch-slapping one of their stars, gouging him in the eye with a roulette ball and ruining five takes in a row--causing hundreds of extras to work overtime.

Suffice it to say, I'll never work in this town again. But it was so worth it.

Not only is Heroes the best dang show around (after you watch Monday night's episode, I defy you to say otherwise), but as you can see from the latest Vine show above, I had a ridiculously good time with my fellow costars during my 13 hours on set playing the illustrious role of "Roulette Dealer."

HP Personal Again

When you see my scene (which airs right after a commercial break), let me tell you, you will be blown away...by my nerve in calling these people "my fellow costars." 'Cause truth be told, I have two itty-bitty wittle lines. Do not blink!

Still, I did get to be bitchy and slap Hiro's hand--whee!--and, even better, bond with my fellow costars (oh, sue me, I'm calling 'em that) while hanging out on set. We shot this scene the day after the Emmys, so we were all requisitely sleep deprived, loopy and giggly. Masi Oka, Adrian Pasdar, Ali Larter and I laughed, drank (fake) champagne, did the robot (or maybe that was just Masi), discussed how to make love like a porn star and shared intimate secrets about the show.

What's that you say? You'd like to hear those intimate secrets? Do you really think I'm that kind of girl? That I'm that easy? Well...when you see the size of my skirt on Monday's episode, you'll know that to be true. So, here goes...

What I Learned on the Set of Heroes

Adrian Pasdar Adrian Could Have Been Milo Ventimiglia's Dad. "I almost played Milo's father on Gilmore Girls," Adrian told me of his Heroes sibling. "I auditioned, and they told me, 'There's no way you could play his father. You guys look too much like brothers.' And now, here we are." Adrian also told me he and Milo are fast becoming BFF. "We hang out together off camera, and we really get along like wild cards." (By the way, a little trivia tidbit: The official-looking book Adrian's carrying around in this episode is actually Jenna Jameson's How to Make Love Like a Porn Star. A little light reading Adrian's real-life wife, Dixie Chick Natalie Maines, is sure to appreciate.)

Ali Gave Me the Lowdown on Niki's Superpower. This is the number-one question about the show--what can Niki do?--so I had to ask. Here's what Ali told me of her alter ego's alter ego: "The writers are hinting that Niki has a duality in her personality. So, one side of her won't have to conform to society's expectations. Like, she'll rob a bank if she needs money, she'd kill somebody if they got in her way. And her other side has to live by the laws of the land. It's really the moral questioning that we have inside all of us. That little devil on one side, that little angel on the other. They're just taking us to a new level with it." Psst...you'll see a whole new side of Niki in this Monday's ep.

Masi OkaMasi Is Hilarious. Next time you see a roulette dealer, I want you to bow down and kiss his or her feet, no matter how dirty or disgusting the floor. You see, their job requires a special skill set right up there with rocket scientist, brain surgeon and cancer curer. While shooting the casino scene, I couldn't get the ball to go around the roulette wheel more than eight times (which we needed for the shot) without it bouncing out. First, it bounced on the floor. Then, it hit a wall. Then, it flew across the room right at Masi's face. Masi calmly walked over to me, placed one hand on my shoulder and gently whispered, "Don't be nervous. You're doing great. And if you have any performance anxiety, just do what Kevin Dillon does." If you're an Entourage fan, you'll understand why I erupted into a giggle fit--which, of course, ruined the next take.

Ali LarterMonday Night's Episode Kicks Ass: All kidding aside, I'm so not talking about my measly little "guest spot." (Like I said, I have two itty-bitty lines!) This is the episode of Heroes where everything kicks into high gear and you really see what this show is capable of. You might even need to bring a change of shorts to watch it. Says Ali, "This is my favorite [episode] so far. Bryan Fuller [consulting producer on Heroes and cocreator of Wonderfalls] wrote this script, and I think he's just amazing--along with all the writers on the show. It's my first experience in television, and the fact that they are inviting the actors to share our own ideas, it's just really cool. Especially when you see where things are headed."

"Cool," in my opinion, is an understatement for what lies ahead for Heroes. I sincerely hope you'll come along for the ride.

That said, I hope you'll join me on our message boards on Monday night at 9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT to "Watch Heroes with Kristin." It's our first installment of this new, live weekly bonding session, called Actually Watch with Kristin. In case you missed the memo, I'm picking a different show each week to watch and chat about with you--so I could use the support (and a strong drink if they show that skirt).

Finally, in case you hadn't noticed, today's column is shorter than usual. That's because, if all goes according to plan, this very text will be moving on Monday to the brand-new site I've been telling you about. I can't wait to see you on the other side, with the new era of Watch with Kristin--where I'll be posting daily!

The show last night 10-16 was really good. I am definitely finding myself thinking and talking about the show and honestly anticipating the next episode and what will happen. I like it more with each new episode!!!

Some of the NBC shows are available for download. I am not sure if this is one of them but you might want to check as it is DEFINITELY worth it. The Japanese character is my absolute favorite!!!!!!! Hiro is my Hero!!!!

NBC's answer to Lost...?

It's definitely worth watching but I wish it was a little 'darker'. I like it when these things have a conspiracy thread/angle running through them (like The X Files did).....which I think they are slowly developing.

The last episode where 'the girl who can't die' ended up on the autopsy table and woke up, finally added some dark humor.

Did you see the following episode yet? I thought it was really good. Definitely makes me want to see more. I think it is not quite as dark as they could take it because of the earlier time slot it has. It is possible it will darker as episodes progress. Honestly, I really like this show, so i am worry that it won't get cancelled like so many of the other shows i really have liked in the past. I hope they give it a chance to really build. I also hope they don't make it to soapy and relationship driven rather than story and action/character driven. They ruined smallvile for me by turning it into dawson's creek/ 90210 with super powers.

This is the best series I've seen in a while, fantastic stuff. Great writing and characters, Hiro is awesome. Just hope HBO don't drop it after one season like they did Surface because it's got great potential.
The only thing I don't like is the Twilight Zone-style voiceover at the beginning and end of each episode, doesn't fit in with the show.

Sylar is played by Sean Bean, according to IMDB. Probably wrong, then.

I'm still watching and the show is definitely well done but it seems disjointed at times due to the number of main characters. I also wonder where they are going with the show. What's the point of it all?

Save the cheerleader, save the world!! ;)

I'm loving this show, the first one to get the hairs on my arms on end since I was a kid! Hang on, maybe I'm just a big kid now.

I think I see where it might be heading, and to reference X-Men

Suresh = Charlie Xavier, a flawed, younger an sexier version ?

Sylar = Psychopathic Magneto ?

Sorry to draw parallels between the two, but the concept is similar.

What about the Cheerleaders Dad?

last nights episode was a bit slower, but did reveal a few new facts. (especially about the cheerleaders dad) . Hiro is still my favorite. the only annoying factor for the show is the telepathic cop's pig faced wife.

I missed Mondays episode...anyone care to fill me in?
I guess my main problem is getting into some of the characters. They just don't engage me at times.

It's actually closer to J. Michael Straczynski's Rising Stars than anything else.

I think with powers you can only have a certain amount of them, so similarities are unavoidable.

I wonder how many more persons will appear, with nearly each episode we get introduced to another power. On Monday it was the girl who can store any information she reads or sees.

Looks like the Doctor might have some powers too. Either that or the little boy he saw was projecting his thoughts onto him somehow.

You missed a good one. Download it if you can.

Spoilers:
The cheerleaders Dad and the girl with short hair tried to get Isaac to paint a new picture so they can save the cheerleader. They're holding him in a secret facility beneath a paper company (not Dunder-Mifflin).

Suresh starts having very vivid dreams. He sees a conversation between his parents which leads to his mother revealing he had a sister who died years ago. In the dreams a little boy appears who eventually shows him where to find a folder full of information on the same boy hidden in his Dad's office.

A new character was revealed, Hiro meets her in a cafe. She has a supernatural ability to remember and comprehend anything she reads or is told. He talks to her for a while (she learns Japanese) and then Sylar kills her. Hiro jumps back in time to try and save her, but it looks like he might have gone a little too far because the final shot is his friend standing there looking confused (Hiro promised he'd be back quickly) while we see a photo pinned to a board behind him of Hiro with the girl.

Well i was a bit disappointed with the big "reveal" last night. Plus there was hide nor hair of my fave character Hiro :(... buuuutttt next week it looks as if it is a Hiro focused episode. (i sure hope so)
