A story that is at once tragic and ludicrous.
AHMEDABAD: A 29-year-old woman from the Navrangpura area of the city on Saturday filed a complaint with Paldi police alleging that her in-laws and husband beat and abandoned her a year ago following a dispute over delay in making mango juice.
The complainant said in her FIR that that she got married to a man from the Paldi area of the city on January 23, 2022. Soon after their wedding, her mother-in-law allegedly began taunting her for not bringing enough dowry and over the issue of household chores.
On May 1, 2022, her mother-in-law told her to prepare mango juice for her family members. The complainant told her that as she was going to the toilet, she told her mother-in-law that she would make the mango juice after a while.
This allegedly irked her mother-in-law who began abusing her. She also beat her, said the complainant.
The mother-in-law allegedly pushed her out of their house and asked her never to enter her husband's house again. She alleged in the FIR that her husband and other members of her in-laws' family stood as mute spectators when she was being pushed.
The complainant said that she tried to reach out to her husband and in-laws, but they were not ready for a compromise over the issue.
She alleged that her mother-in-law had earlier also not allowed her to cook food or talk with her husband without her permission.
The complainant said that her mother-in-law and father-in-law had on November 3 threatened her and her family members with a divorce case. The woman approached Paldi police and filed a complaint of domestic violence and abetment against her mother-in-law, father-in-law, husband and his other relatives.
