Kidney Stones

I have had kidney stones over 8 times in the last 50 years .
There is no medicine per se but allopurinol does help prevent them in about 50% of the cases for those who suffer from them.
I was told to drink more water and avoid calcium based foods. as much as possible.
So far I have been free from them for over 10 years.

We now have "Nurse Practitioners". They are able to diagnose and prescribe for a range of things. If not within their scope of practice, then you would see a doctor.

This classification was made to try to address the shortage of family doctors in Canada. Recently, pharmacists can also diagnose and prescribe for a very narrow range of illnesses.

We have many people who have no family doctors. And our remote northern areas have less access to medical services without travelling long distances (usually by plane).
My opinion Nurse Practitioners have gotten really big in the U.S. as doctors complain they are overworked.

From what I have heard Obstetricians are probably delivering a baby and the chances of seeing the actual doctor is 50-50.

We have something called “ walk in off the street clinics “ which is usually all Nurse Practitioners.
I suppose it's the same here with dentists now.
'Dental hygienists' seem to have taken on a lot of the work that the dentist used to do.

Had a strange one in the early hours; pain in both kidneys, then my stomach rumbled and it eased.
How's all that feeling for you lately Floyd?. Better I hope because I know you were a bit concerned at one point. The last time they checked, I've still got a kidney stone the size of a pea in my left kidney and they're going to look at it again sometime in November. Fortunately, I can't even feel it (yet) so it isn't slowing me down.

Good point @Swifty .

@Floyd Explain yourself young man! :bpals:
I've been much better these last few weeks, thanks for asking guys.

To be honest, after last time, I came to the conclusion that it is diverticulitis - in my expert medical opinion- although the symptoms often correspond to all the other disorders it could be, so who knows.

I haven't bothered much with those mebeverine tablets that the nurse gave me Frides.
It just seems odd to take them before a meal when I feel ok.

She said it was odd how the Doc had prescribed zapain, although it's handy having them in.

I am quite partial to a zapain or two with a bottle of red wine though.

Hopefully you'll get sorted before you start to feel any effects Swifty.

I get IBS all sorts of symptoms. The mebeverine seems to regulate the gut, stopping it going into a spasm for no discernable reason other than to cause you agony. It is worth taking it before you feel the pain and regularly for a few weeks. That sometimes seems to get the gut into a proper rythm.

I'm still leaning towards gall stones F. I had the exact symptoms you have and it nearly proved fatal - saved by a locum from my GP surgery. Take care and don't get fobbed off.

Listen to @PeteS, consider what else it can be. :nods:

Perhaps the few times I took it did help then.
I'll start taking them again.

Hope they do work for you. Trouble is that IMO IBS has become a bit of a catch all for all sorts of symptoms. After years of theories, tests, etc. I came to the conclusion that medical science was telling me: "We've ruled out most things, We've no idea really, try these pills and see if they work".
But do make sure they've ruled out all the other things.

I'm sorry. Honest.

That sounds suspiciously like 'pain is nature's way of telling you you aren't dead yet.'

I am waiting to hear proof from the other side before I confirm.
One of the messages often allegedly delivered from the Other Side is that the loved one in question is now out of pain.

This can be physical, mental or emotional suffering - all gone. That would certainly be OK.

I'd probably end up offending St. Peter anyway.
He'd say that I'd (somehow) made it in and then I'd accidentally call him an arse or something and be sent straight down to the other place. For eternity.

Probably the most ok ish thing that could happen. Spending an eternity with some people I've come across would be the least ok thing.
