Statement Respecting a Frog Found in Solid Firestone, 90 Yards under Ground

Overview:

In the year 1856, two miners of the names of Henry Allen and David Mitchell, were employed by Mr. Nasmyth, the lessee of the Dundonald Coal-field, in working a seam of coal, called the "Little Splint," about 45 fathoms from the surface...
As soon as the explosion had taken place, the miners went forward to take away the pieces which had been blown apart, when an animal jumped out of the rent which had been made by the explosion. It jumped a considerable distance, apparently with a strong convulsive dfort, and then jumped again in another direction, and continued doing so three or four times in succession

Frogs and Toads in Stone
Overview:

Ar the works of Messrs Burton, brick and tile manufacturers, Ironbridge, Salop ,' we were some time ago informed , ' some workmen were employed in sinking a well ; when, on reaching a depth of twenty-two feet from the surface, they found a
toad firmly imbedded in the solid clay. The reptile, which was a large one, appeared, when extricated from its living tomb, to be in quite a lively condition, and stretched itself out in the sun. It is alive, and preserved as a curiosity.'
