MI5 Building Is Really A Shell Containing Another Building?

I remember over-hearing someone on a train saying, as the train passed the MI5 building down by the Thames, that the MI5 building that you can see is just a shell and that inside is another building, a building within a building. It is certainly all blacked out and you can't see in at all. Anyone heard this or know if it is true or an UL?
 
I have heard tell, but cannot find online corroberation that the CIA headquarters (?) has an outer glass envalope to prevent bad guys from eavsdropping by bouncing lasers off the windows.

(And alledgedly, the Russians accomplished the same thing much cheaper by using speakers to drive innocuous signals on their windows.)

well i would say not literaly..like u go in and theres some kind of whole building in there... but most probably the outside skin is armoured and the inner "building" is isolated and not touching the outter shell. This is done in some buildings to stop noise (sound passes tho solid objects easily) and would think they would find this useful but also to give any explodeing projectile (as was fired at it once) a hard time... it goes thro the first outer layer then explodes in the gap.
 
I'm sure they haven't released all the information on this for obvious reasons but my understanding of the situation was along the same lines as what sidecar_jon describes (although I didn't hear that there was an inner and outer shell) - there was a big deal made at the time about how it was designed to repel missile attack (good job too) and it has built out areas and buttresses to deflect projectiles and I think a lot of wht you see isn't part of the vital superstructure.

There are a lot of (armoured, black tinted) windows though - are they fake?

Anyone got any good links?

Anyway of stopping GCHQ spotting this and having us all disappeared for our inquiries?

how about the building not being used for anything important - the really important work doesn't happen there, rather somewhere where our attention isn't focussed?

I clicked onto the MI5 website and one declaration they made was roughly along the lines of "contrary to popular belief, we do not have anyone killed"

Would one be really naive to believe that?
Or have they just worded that declaration very carefully?
 
Try telling that to Lady Di, Dr.Kelly and Rod Hull. Yeah, you know what I'm talking about.
 
I don't believe the Rod Hull one at all. Why bump off old Rod when Emu was the greater threat?

Was it because Rod bore a striking resemblance to Camilla?
The mind boggles.

I remember Private Eye once reporting the strange death of some kind of secret service whistle blower. He drowned after having his face superglued to the bath. Very creepy but surely too bizarrely elaborate to be the work of Spooks when a simple bullet would have sufficed? Anyway, it's all horrible shadowy stuff.

Now I have this image of the KGB building being like those Russian nesting dolls...
 
Isn't all the important stuff inside the Pentagon supposed to be underground? Maybe it's the same thing inside MI5?
 
I can see the intelligence types reading the reports on this MB and thinking 'that's really a very good idea you know.'

How about them thinking "This one's far too interested in how we work. Tail 'er. Everything from the shoes she wears to her favourite sandwich. If the MI-5 building is protected by "spaced" or ablative armour then it is merely usefully incidental.

The reality is that the Civil Service cocked up the building contracts and hired two contractors for the job. Since they've never been gifted when it comes to contractual law they had to use both companies for the same job. Thus one comany built the first "shell" then the second company built the interior building.

Haven't you ever wondered why they always announce massive overspends on the budgets for massive building projects? You wait until the Scottish Parliament is completed ... there's so many "shells" to that `un that the completed assembly room will be the size of a WC cubicle!
 
Though not entirely on topic its quite similar.

Theres a strange factory type building in South London, its on Streatham High Road on the corner of I think Kempshott Road, SW16.

Its got a bunch of surveillance cameras, a small sentry box type thing and a pretty mean looking fence.

Now this factory is maybe the real place where the Q types do their work. Nothing seems to go in or out of the factory, theres no signs or anything else that would signify a real manufacturer or anything. Theres no way to see inside the building, outside theres a couple of big vans that look similar to an outside broadcast van the BBC might use and I think a fuel pump just like a normal petrol station. I have never seen anything moving the hundreds of times I have passed the place.

I seem to remember it being mentioned on a TV show hosted by Philip Schofield, you could call in and they would investigate by asking the public to call in with their views etc..

A good friend of mine worked at a motorcycle shop a couple hundred yards from the factory and every now and then a guy that worked at the factory would come in a buy parts for motorcycles, my friend asked what they did in there but the guy never told him anything at all. I am not sure how my friend knew that the guy came from the factory, I will ask him sometime.

If anyone has any knowledge of this place and what the guys do in there I would be really interested to know.

PS. only twice in my 30+ yrs of living in the streatham area I have seen HUGE MISSILES being transported in the early hours of the morning. Both times it was a single missile/rocket being transported with a police escort. They were driving along Crown Lane towards Streatham Common then down the side of the common. It just occured to me that maybe they were heading for the secret factory. These rockets were HUGE, only missing the top of the lamposts by inches and they were laying horizontally on the flatbed truck, I know they were not say huge boilers or anything as you could see the nozzles for the motors at the back, I would estimate they were at least 70ft long and it was not your average HGV that was hauling them.
I saw one of these on my own and another time was with a friend and he saw it too, so I wasnt hallucinating, we actually ran so we could get a better view. I have always wondered why it would be necessary to move missiles through a very built up area in the middle of a city, as far as I know there are not any launch sites round here.

Again if anyone knows what these were doing please let me know.
