Oh, The Irony

5 minutes long but worth watching through to see how the BBCs 'disinformation' reporter, ironically, has herself been responsible for spreading disinformation (lies actually) but it seems that this is something that she, and the BBC in general, manage to get away with on the regular.
Irony.

Excipients are literally the stuff of placebos; they are the nonactive ingredients that allow manufacturers to compound a drug into a comestible pill with a reasonable shelf life. When Merck changed the excipients in the thyroid hormone replacement drug Levothyroxine from mannitol plus citric acid to lactose, it set off a virtual firestorm. Before releasing the new formulation, Merck had conducted a randomized bioequivalence study that found that the biological outcome measures were essentially identical and the new formulation was completely safe. Nonetheless, patients reported significant side effects; from hair loss, headaches, and weight gain, to diarrhea, extreme fatigue, and increased heart rates, the rash of side effects experienced by the tens of thousands of patients with hypothyroidism in France gave rise to more than sixty lawsuits accusing Merck and the French government of a “failure to assist a person in danger.”18

Here are some of the symptoms of lactose intolerance from the NHS.
https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/lactose-intolerance/
  • tummy pain or discomfort
  • bloating
  • farting
  • diarrhoea or constipation
  • feeling sick or being sick
You may also have longer lasting symptoms including a rash (eczema), headaches, joint pain, feeling tired, and finding it hard to concentrate.

The other symptoms are those of hypothyroidism. Sometimes people need their dose increased.

What makes her so sure this is a nocebo effect?

50 year old white guys have experience.
But, I guess those experienced guys would have pointed out all the things that could go wrong.

The CEO of OceanGate, which is operating the missing Titanic tourist submarine, explains that the company didn’t want to hire any experienced “50 year old white guys” because they weren’t “inspirational.”

Hmmm…. these two would seem to contradict that statement.

Paul Henri Nargeolet, 77, French maritime expert who has made more than 35 dives to the Titanic wreck

Hamish Harding, 58, who holds several Guinness World Records, including one for the longest time spent traversing the deepest part of the ocean on a single dive

These people were tourists. The pilot of the vehicle was CEO of the company Stockton Rush.

It's also fashionable.
"Hey, we want, k'now, disruptors! Those who think outside the box, that shakes the establishment. We don't want people who say 'You can't do that' but guys who say 'I know how we can do that'.
A similar mind-set as one of my wife's managers who would say "Don't bring me problems, bring me solutions!" She'd reply "If I had a solution, it wouldn't be a problem!"

Oh right. This statement by Hamish Harding makes it sound like he’s part of the team rather than a punter.

‘I am proud to finally announce that I joined OceanGate Expeditions for their RMS TITANIC Mission as a mission specialist on the sub going down to the Titanic.

An IT director I worked for back in the late 80s would often say 'we'll cross that bridge when we come to it' in response to my analysis of future snags and problems in a project. He also told me I was thinking negatively. I told him that no, I had seen the problems ahead and was trying to solve them ahead of time by sharing the issue with him and others. I thought I was being proactive, but nooooo...

Post your own opinions, please.

We don't need them filtered through pot-stirrers and trouble-stokers like Ian Miles Cheong.

Oh, is there a backstory that I'm unaware of? I posted it quite innocently, what did I miss?

Same at Techy's work. He'll foresee and point out problems, then be accused like you of negativity.

(risking a slapped wrist) Sounds like the mindset behind that horrible label "Project Fear".

Is this ironic variant common parlance:
When white-collar crime results in murder or suicide, it’s known as “red collar crime.

In 2022, accounting giant PwC Canada was fined more than $900,000 by Canadian and US accounting regulators after eleven hundred of its auditors were caught cheating on an exam.1 In 2019, the US Public Company Accounting Oversight Board fined KPMG $50 million, in part because its auditors had shared answers.2

Harvard Scholar Who Studies Honesty Is Accused of Fabricating Findings

The scholar, Francesca Gino of Harvard Business School, has been a co-author of dozens of papers in peer-reviewed journals on such topics as how rituals like silently counting to 10 before deciding what to eat can increase the likelihood of choosing healthier food, and how networking can make professionals feel dirty.

Questions about her work surfaced in an article on June 16 in The Chronicle of Higher Education about a 2012 paper written by Dr. Gino and four colleagues. One of Dr. Gino’s co-authors — Max H. Bazerman, also of Harvard Business School — told The Chronicle that the university had informed him that a study overseen by Dr. Gino for the paper appeared to include fabricated results.

Domestic violence suspect revealed to be man crushed to death in dustcart after climbing in to hide from police

A domestic violence suspect has been revealed to be a man who was crushed to death in a dustcart after he is thought to have climbed inside to hide from police.

Detectives are said to be working on the theory that the man, in his late 40s, was inside the bin when it was tipped into the dustcart truck by council contractors collecting bins in Wandsworth, south west London.

The man was found in the rear of the bin lorry at 9.25am on Monday, and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Around 20 minutes beforehand, police had been called to a domestic disturbance nearby involving a woman in her late 40s and a young boy. Both were hurt, but the extent of their injuries is not known.

A male suspect fled the scene and police believe he then climbed into a bin outside nearby council flats.
