Banana Crisis

and from this link dated 12/05/06

• Friday, May 12, 2006
The shrinking numbers of wild bananas in India, the world’s premier producer, are causing concern at the United Nationals Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO), that is committed to preserving agricultural biodiversity.

The first session of the governing body of the International Treaty on Plant Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture, which came into force in 2004 under the auspices of FAO, will take place from 12-‘6 June in Madrid.

India is the biggest worlds banana producer with an annual production of 168 million tonnes, or over 20 percent of total world output of 72-billion tonnes in 2005.

But over exploitation and the loss of forests as a result of encroachment and logging, slash-and-burn cultivation and urbanization are causing a rapid loss of wild banana species that have existed in India for thousands of years. Among them are the ancestors of the Cavendish variety, the large, pulpy/desert banana which currently accounts for virtually all of world trade, amounting to nearly 20 million tonnes a year.

Cooking bananas and plantains-eaten fried, boiled, baked or chipped- are the staple food of 400 million people in the developing world, while bananas are also used to make fibres and beer. In India, they play an important role in traditional medicine.

Bananas are the most exported world’ fruit and the fourth most important food commodity on earth after rice, wheat and maize in terms of production value.........

Another one on the ticksheet

The upcoming volcanic eruption might help my stats too and hopefully Tony B will announce his resignation for 2007 and stick to it :)

Hurricane in Britain near the end of the year. Buy ya kites here...

Re: banana crisis

Yet another sex scandal hits the Christian Religion

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/somerset/5125324.stm

This is about a priest in Clevedon which is about 12 miles from my home town (one M5 junction north)

Priest charged with sex offences

A North Somerset parish priest has been charged with 15 sex offences dating back 30 years.
The Rev David Smith, 51, Vicar of St John the Evangelist's in Clevedon, has been charged with 10 counts of indecent assault.

Mr Smith has also been charged with one charge of gross indecency, one of incitement to gross indecency, one of grooming and two sexual assaults.

He is due to appear before magistrates in Weston-super-Mare on 6 July.

A spokeswoman for the Diocese of Bath and Wells said: "We have been aware of the police investigation and have co-operated fully throughout.

"We will not make any further statement until after the case has been settled."

I expected this prediction to hit the mark but didnt expect it to happen so close to my home town of Weston super Mare

There will be casualties during a serious fire on a film set.

Damn !!! Serious fire but no casualties. Close but not close enough.

Bond film stage 'will be rebuilt'

The soundstage had previously been rebuilt after a fire in 1984
The James Bond stage destroyed by fire at the weekend "will need to be demolished and rebuilt", according to a statement from Pinewood Studios.
The cause of the blaze at Iver Heath, Buckinghamshire, which left the celebrated stage completely gutted, has yet to be confirmed.

However, Pinewood said the rest of its studios would be fully operational "by the end of today".

The stage was housing sets built for Casino Royale, the next Bond movie.

No filming was taking place at the time and there were no casualties.

You will be surprised to find I am always 100% accurate in my many and varied predictions:

Babies will be born

The sun will rise

Mondays will be depressing

Fridays will lift your mood. (unless you work at weekends)

People will disagree

People will agree.

There will be unusual phenomena.

I can add more if u wish, please let me know.

I cant see why not. I am very upset. You are missing out on some great revelations :D

Is it like last year's?

'On some days, it will rain: on others, not.'
'Hair will be cut.'
'There will be shoes.'

After last year's record-setting hurricane season in the Northern Hemisphere there were numeous predictions from psychics and futurists alike that 2006 would be even worse. Few people disagreed. It seemed almost a sucker bet.

But in actuality it seems to be a fairly sluggish season, at least so far.

But think of all the money you'd save. Those OTHER almanacs you have to buy NEW every year.

SILVERCOIN'S ALMANAC - Accuracy absolutely guaranteed for uncounted ages yet to come!

Good point. :D

*shells out*

What's this on p.21?

There will be financial chicanery.
Bargains may not be all they appear.

:?

Among the predictions I posted a few pages back on 13.05.06...

August 9
very busy time
things that seem too good to be true
be cautious when traveling by air

August 13
traveling by air at this time dangerous
accidents

 when you think of the ongoing drama at the airports today!

errr..excuse me, there's someone at the door...

Predictions can't be humorous?

Not even if the future is funny?

....oh....

Tea = Good. Maybe the generations who accompanied their lard-laden feasts with brickie-strength tea knew a thing or two. Orwell, alias Blair, swore by it - the tea that is - and we must put his own early death down to over-work and his horrid love of ciggies.

Or did he just stray too far from home?

The press is obsessed with diet, which places responsibility primly back into the hands of the consumer.

It has always been a pretty effective diversion from inequalities which persist geographically.

Oh, right, predictions is it then? Well, more of the same, really. :(

I drink loads of tea and have not had a day off work sick for over 4 years.

Therefore it MUST be true  ahem !!

James, Orwell/Blair died of TB. I saw a list of famous TB victims once - absolutely staggering. :(

He probably caught it staying some of the hovels to research Road to Wigan Pier.

Yup, maybe, but it was widespread then and certainly not confined to the poor. It's making a comeback now. Terrifying.

Working in a hospital a few years ago, I saw my first and so far only TB case. She was in her 20s and stick-thin, with a paper-white face. 'Pale and interesting' she was not. :(
