A MAN who calls himself The Renegade has spoken of his alleged life as a masked vigilante.

The anonymous man, from Nuneaton, Warwickshire, says he started investigating criminals in the Midlands after his girlfriend was killed in a hit and run crash.
Since then he says he has been quietly working to assist police in the apprehension of dangerous criminals.
The Renegade - who won't reveal where he's from other than to say he's local to Nuneaton - says he has helped police investigate more than 100 crimes in the past two years using his motorbike and an unspecified “array of gadgets”.
And he claims he was involved in the arrest of a man from Leicester in connection with a series of cash machine raids across four counties last year.
The Renegade also says he helped stop a robbery in the village of Witherley, Leicestershire, recently.
He said: "I protect the public from dangerous criminals, I protect the vulnerable and the weak.
"I use an array of gadgets and an array of vehicles.
"I had a girlfriend a few years ago. She was killed by a hit and run driver and three men just sped away from the scene.
"That's when I decided that I would prevent that from happening to anyone else by stopping criminals.
"These people are dangerous and they need to be behind bars."

The Renegade says he has helped the police with more than 100 crimes
The Renegade works in a motorbike shop.
He said he operated mostly in the East Midlands, but occasionally visited the West Midlands.
The Renegade said he planned to visit the West Midlands soon to assist in an unspecified stabbing case he had read about.
He said: "I don't think it's the police's fault that they don't have the manpower.
"Government have made a lot of cuts. I don't think the police have the resources any more to tackle the issues that the public are concerned about like knife crime and gang crime.
"I provide the police with information. I watch from the shadows.
"I don't intervene unless it's absolutely necessary. I don't take the law into my own hands unless lives are at stake.
"I'm trying to send a message to the gangs and the people who think they can hurt the innocent and get away with it. They can't."
The Renegade says he has an associate who helps him get around if his bike or other vehicles are out of action.
He claims to operate out of a 'special laboratory' in his garage.
Discussing a recent case, he said: "I was riding through Witherley at 1am when I saw a young girl walking down the road. Two men came out of an alleyway and tried to grab her.
"There was no one else around so I intervened. I tackled one to the floor and the other ran off.
"I'm out there and I'm watching. The next time a criminal hears a motorbike it might be me."
A spokesman for Leicestershire Police said no charges had been brought regarding the raids on cash machines The Renegade says he has investigated.
They were unable to confirm if he had helped.
In the past police forces have warned members of the public to steer clear of vigilante-type activites, warning that they could be putting themselves in danger.
Both Leicestershire Police and Warwickshire Police have spoken out against unofficial crime-fighters tackling criminals - but groups have continued to operate.
The Renegade's claims come after a man stepped forward claiming to be the so-called Bromley Batman.
The masked vigilante, who claims to patrol London's streets at night, says he prefers to be known as The Shadow.

The masked man who rescued a couple in Newquay says he "just wants to make a difference."
The vigilante, dubbed the Bromley Batman, was spotted in the resort when a group of drunks started making trouble.
The real life superhero stepped in to protect a passing couple.

He has told a paper he was on holiday, but went on patrol anyway.
It is claimed he used his martial arts skills to give one of the thugs a thump and send two others falling to the floor.
He has told The Evening Standard in London: "I was on holiday and I decided to go and patrol one night, not expecting to run into any trouble at all.
"But I assumed the place that might need help would be Newquay because of its party town reputation.

"It didn't take long to come across lots of drunks and idiots fighting, but what caught my eye was a group of three men pushing people around while walking through town, so I started to watch them.
"That's when they attacked this man who was with his partner – so I got into position and helped them."

The real life superhero prefers to be known as The Shadow and has patrolled the streets for the last three years after being trained in martial arts since he was young.
Among those who say he has helped them have been the victim of a knife-wielding gang and a woman who was being subjected to a sexual assault.

Here's a chap who should have tried his hand at superheroism... Guy gets struck by lightning, develops superstrength and telepathy and absolutely no temporary mental illness from having his brain fried.

He added: "For about a week, I had heightened sensory capabilities. I could see things you normally can't see and hear long distance. I even had psychic abilities.

"It was the weirdest experience, I'd look at people and could hear what they were saying like they were talking to me. I asked myself if I was having delusions, you tell people these sorts of things and they look at you very strangely."

Brian says that if someone walked into a room, he knew exactly what they were about to say before they said it.

He was also granted superhuman strength temporarily, he claims.

The powers he claims to have gained however have since vanished.

Mugger caught by 'Superman' sent to psychiatric hospital under Mental Health Act

A MUGGER who was caught by a real-life Superman in Gloucester earlier this year has been sentenced to psychiatric hospital treatment under the Mental Health Act.

Kevin James MacKenzie, 54, pleaded guilty to attempting to rob Jane Mace of £200 in Gloucester on January 27.
Mrs Mace, 66, was using an ATM at the Co-op Bank in St Aldate Street, Gloucester, when MacKenzie tried to take her money from her.

But he was thwarted by charity fundraiser Antonio Cortes, 32 - dressed as Superman - who was having breakfast in the nearby Regal pub.

Bristol has it's own modern day superhero who, enraged by shop signs wrong use of apostrophes, sneaks out in the dead of night armed with his custom-made trestle & Apostrophiser either to insert missing apostrophes or cover up wrongly used ones..The reporter accompanies him on one of his night time maneuvers at a car garage & in the morning visits again to speak to the owner who'd not noticed the change & seems delighted.

He's been pursuing his mission, unnoticed, for several years & has many corrections to shop signs around town under his belt.
