I couldn't find a thread devoted to this, but I noticed from the post here:
http://www.offthetelly.co.uk/blog/index.htm

...that there's a new documentary about the case on Channel 4 at the end of the month. With an interview with Janet! It probably won't change any minds either way, but should be interesting at the very least.

I personally wouldnt give this case the time of day. Its the biggest load of bunkem ever.

Over stimulated kids bouncing around on their mattresses - "OOOOH IT'S AN EVIL SPIRIT".

Mmmmmm.

Janet was interviewed last year on Jane Goldman Investigates, however on this upcoming show she will appear on-camera (and not hiding her face). And also it will include the last ever filmed interview with Maurice Grosse before he passed away.

Should be the most comprehensive doc on Enfield, and will be showing as part of Channel 4's "Occult week"

Thanks for the 'heads up'! Sounds fantastic. I have a copy of "This House I Haunted" and read it from cover to cover in one go - it usually takes me a week or so to totally devour a good book - and found it totally fascinating. Sure, the girls got caught out a few times, but the pillow on the roof et al?

Channel 4s "Occult Week" looks like it's gunna have a few gems!

Anyway "Interview With a Poltergeist" is on UK Channel 4 on January 24.

The weird thing is, I could have sworn we did have a thread at one point dedicated to the Enfield Poltergeist. Maybe it's wound up in the warehouse with the Ark...

I'll be sure to watch this, it's a very interesting case. Did anyone hear the tape recordings of 'fred' (?) speaking?

Yes. And it's 'just' Janet using her larinx (sp) to produce the FX. I can do it - but not for very long (it makes me sound really sexy)! But I certainly can't keep it up for long (stop it), not as long as she did!

There must be a downloady type thing online somewhere. I'll have a look.

I did a search, honest! It's mentioned in a few threads, but there's no sole Enfield Poltergeist one.

IIRC She also produced the voice with her mouth full of water and taped up (!)

Nope, there aren't any dedicated threads before this one. It is discussed a fair bit in a thread entitled Poltergeists, but I think it was more intended for general discussion.

In fairness it can be tricky to discuss polt cases in isolation. Some people nonetheless get a tad tetchy if you cross reference, for reasons best known unto themselves.

Thanks for the mentioning of the documentry gncxx, I'll try to make sure I don't forget to watch it. :yeay:

I always forget things though, when something interests me.

Yes. We'd all like to hear your views reguarding this. ;)

i have a paper cutting about the enfield case if anyone is interested in reading it just click on the thumbnail below it may take some time to load.

Man that avatar of yours Is cool.

Don't really know what to say much on that article, except paranoia and over superstitious they sound.

Good read like but I don't agree with the shunning, even Janet It says doesn't keep in touch with her mum!

i'm going to have to change who hosts it it seems to have a mind of its own some days it seems fine then other days its huge ,bloody thing.
i don't know what their problem is i would love to live next door to that house ,i'd love to live in it ,its just a house. The poltergeist has long gone . i suppose they fear what they don't really understand.

Short clip from the Channel 4 documentary here.

EDIT - A little bit of info on C4's Occult Week...

The Curse of the Ice Mummy is a chilling documentary exploring the seven sequences of death, violence and tragedy which followed the discovery of the mummified remains of a prehistoric man known only as Oetzi. The film separates fact from fiction as it investigates the manner of Oetzi’s death, the identity of his assailants and the truth behind the so-called curse.

The Enfield Poltergeist. When Roz Morris was a BBC radio reporter she produced and presented a radio documentary about a family in Enfield, North London, who had a series of very mysterious and unnerving events occurring at their house in the late 1970’s. Roz’s radio documentary about the Enfield Poltergeist featured the first broadcast recordings of poltergeist activity and was broadcast several times on BBC Radio Four and the BBC World Service.

Interview with a Poltergeist, she will be seen talking about her experiences in Enfield and reflecting on what she thinks about the whole experience.

“One thing I can say is that I have never known anything like it before or since “, Roz says. “It really was out of the ordinary and not explicable in normal terms. You’ll have to watch the programme to make your own mind up about what was going on. The exact transmission date isn’t fixed yet.” adds Roz “So do watch out for the Enfield Poltergeist – it’s a really intriguing story.”

Sex, Magic and Murder unravels the tangled threads of Cornish parish councillor Peter Solheim's double life, after he was found drowned in the English Channel. A truly extraordinary tale of pornography, black magic and murder was revealed following his demise, for Solheim was a self-styled 'warlock' who had terrified local pagan groups with his far out beliefs.

Thanks for the link!

Chris French is no stranger to the Enfield case. Him and Maurice Grosse had a bit of a slanging match on an old Ester Rantzen show back in 1998 ;)

cannot seem to find the slanging match between Maurice Grosse and Chris French on the thread provided. can you be more specific or am I not looking properly?

Can't find times for these in the listings. Anyone know when they Enfield Polt is on telly?

Chris French is seen in the intro to Interview with a Poltergeist - so my post was pointing out he's already had a bit of a spat with Grosse a few years ago. If I can work out how to upload to YouTube I'll put it online.

...And Occult week starts around Valentines day!

Thanks for the channel 4 clip.

Think I'll watch It later as I'm going to bed soon If you know what I mean!

Interview With a Poltergeist was originally due to air on January the 24th but has been moved foward two weeks in the schedules. So sometime in the middle of February me thinks.

From Graham Kibble-White on the OTT blog (from the 5th of Jan 07)...

GUY LYON PLAYFAIR

I think I'm always going to be interested in the Enfield poltergeist.

I first came across the case in one of those huge supernatural books from the local library. I was about 11 or so and genuinely freaked out by the pictures of Janet springing out of her bed. Not particularly because of the possibility of a malevolent spirit, more because the whole thing looked so utterly, utterly '70s. Not the '70s of glam rock and space dust, but the '70s of industrial action, council houses. Autumnal colours and huge geometric patterns on the wall. The '70s of Peter Sutcliffe and Donald 'Black Panther' Neilson.

I'm returned to that unsettling place thanks to a preview disc from Channel 4. As part of their unpromisingly-named "Occult Week" season, we have Interview With a Poltergeist a maddeningly inconclusive look at the Enfield affair some three decades on. And, oh my God, it's all here. Paranormal investigator Maurice Grosse looks every bit the be-whiskered crackpot expert you'd expect from the era. Meanwhile his co-investigator hits all the right notes simply through dint of his name: Guy Lyon Playfair. There's twin beds, a convertible Jag, a burly next door neighbour called Vic (blokes aren't called Vic anymore, are they?) and a witness statement from "the baker's roundsman".

"Maddeningly inconclusive", I said. But to be fair, that's no fault of the documentary-makers, whose even-handed efforts doom them to a hung jury.

And as for Janet herself, well, commendably the crew catch up with her today. Scarily, she's still got the most 1970s face ever. It's all too unsettling. But not as unsettling as this photo of her back in her prime. Or maybe it's just me who gets spooked by this sort of thing.

Anyway, that's Interview With a Poltergeist, Channel 4, January 24.

UPDATE: This show's now been moved back two weeks in the schedules

In the youtube link, the way they have the blonde woman typically In a dark room for the Interview when shes talking.

I bet my sister could of done a voice like that.

Does anyone know yet for certain when this show will be aired?

I am really worried I am going to miss it.

Can no one give us an answer on this please? I really don't want to miss it.

Thankyou.

You've not missed it...

Occult Week should either start on the 19th or 26th of this month - keep checking back!

Thank's for that Sherbet!

I'll stick that in my diary. I hardly ever watch TV but whenever there is something on that I want to watch, I always end up missing it.

Thanks a lot.
You're a star!

Hi guys,

I guess I'll get shouted down as usual, however just for the record:

1) A friend of mine held a senior post in the hospital where John, the father in the Enfield case was a porter. (I did not know this when the incident described below happened).
2) She is uninterested in Forteana, but one time I showed her the FT publication "Photographs of the Unknown", at the end of which are photographs of the Enfield family. She immediately recognised him and stated that everyone in the hospital knew that John's biggest desire was for a larger council house for himself and his family.
3) Some time later I was present at a private lecture Maurice Grosse gave on the subject, with slides (which I must confess I found unimpressive). I informed him of the above and offered to put him in touch with my friend. He refused.
4) At the same meeting I demonstrated to him how the "deep voice" phenomenon could be reproduced. He refused to take this on board.

So I'm prety sure nothing supernatural occurred.
