I've been enjoying the Ghost Pod. It's a collection of ghost experiences mainly sent in by listeners.

As anyone who knows me will attest, I LOVE ghosts. Can't get enough of'em. :)

I'll be sending in some of my own stories. Shake'em up a bit!

Episode 17 has an account of a quite horrifying ghost seen in the cellar of a shop in Brighton. Sounded familiar to me, and sure enough, it was previously published in a book about Brighton ghosts which I have here. That's not to say it was cribbed, just that the same person contributed it to both the book and the podcast.

Gave this a try and am up to episode 3. Have enjoyed some of the stories, but found the way it is read a bit jarring some times.

I have been asking myself "why is it always monks"?

I have been asking myself "why is it always monks"?

Hangover from Gothic Literature, I'm sure. They are always maundering about, praying and being contemplative - it's a very Protestant view of Catholic ghosts.

There is evidence that real medieval monks were worked jolly hard and that the monasteries were hot-beds of an earlier industrial revolution. It makes no sense to suppose otherwise, when so many bods were in holy orders! :)

The early editions' sound is a little uneven but is does improve.

I asked this years ago but maybe things have changed: there don't seem to be any really Fortean podcasts out there. I can only think of two offhand.

I don't mean the current slew of Bigfoot, "I'm a Demon Hunter", EVP, haunted bottom type of schtick... anyone know of any?

I'm enjoying the Ghost Pod. Even more so since I woke up suddenly in the wee small hours and heard my own name spoken on it!

The Black Tapes.

Seattle Radio Show/Podcast investigates the paranormal and uber skeptic Richard Strand, (think of a sexy James Randi), it all goes off and involves kidnapping, demonology and secret societies.

Fiction but made out to be real life think Blair Witch. It's very good.

Infuriating catchy theme song

Real Ghost Stories.

American, people tape and send in their stories. The hosts are a bit lame. The guy particularly.

One story involves the recent death of a much loved aunt, the caller is clearly quite emotional and tells his story about the aunt visiting members of the family after her shock death, including his cousin who is 16 and the son of the aunt.

The host Tony, says it's not uncommon who this to happen but it might actually not be the aunt hinting that it might be something evil instead.

Tony mate, whether its a true story or not, you might actually display a little tact.

Also they both seem genuinely clueless about their subject. Still it has some pretty good stories though worth a listen if you are waiting on your favorite podcasts to update.

Someone on Reddit put me onto the Mysteries Abound podcast series.

http://www.originz.info/Originz/Mysteries_Abound_Show_Notes/Mysteries_Abound_Show_Notes.html (this is the episode list NOT the podcast)

You listen to the podcast here: http://www.talkshoe.com/tc/21864

I am currently only a couple of episodes in, but it is brilliant! Each episode is hotch potch of facts, history, strange deaths, with a lot of UFO's Ghosts and other Fortean connected stuff. The host (Paulrex) often notes sources and will suggest links for further research on noteworthy stories.

There's 142 episodes, so quite a trove of listening!

(Edit to add the proper link to the actual episodes)

Not exactly a podcast - maybe there's a more appropriate thread?

Anyway, a creepy fictional psychological tale of anxiety, neurosis and maybe a haunting or something, from a writer I'd never heard of.

'The Cat Jumps'
by Elizabeth Bowen.

'Harold and Jocelyn buy Rose Hill.
The last occupier was another Harold
- one who murdered his wife.'

Read by Anna Massey. First aired in 1988.

Our Fake History often covers pseudo-historical topics, like Graham Hancock, the Chinese discovered America first hypothesis, the female pope, the "hundreds of years of history were fabricated" theory, etc etc.

Mods: maybe move this thread to "Fortean Culture"?

Folklore of the hobby horse, from the folklore podcast -
Animal totems as symbols in folk rituals are common and go back probably further than any of us can track. By far the most prolific of these is the hobby horse. Often associated with calendar customs as well as an accompanying figure for many Morris dance sides, there are a number of common varieties of hobby horse and they are found in customs around the world.

In this episode of The Folklore Podcast, creator and host Mark Norman examines the motif of the hobby horse as well as telling a little about a very unusual one that he is currently preserving.

There looks to be a lot of other intriguing shows on that site, too, but I haven't listened to them yet.

I've recently started listening to https://justastorypod.com/. It focuses on folklore/mythology/urban legends. I've only listened to a handful of episodes so far, but I very much enjoyed the Bogus social workers episode and I think some of you would enjoy it.

I've been listening to Anything Ghost for years and even contributed to one episode - I forget the episode but it was an anniversary or Halloween edition, a couple of years back, IIRC. I'm 'Annie in Yorkshire' (pseudonym).

https://anythingghost.libsyn.com/

Lex read my story - I didn't want to record my voice! It's a US site but lots of foreign contributors - UK, Aus, etc.

I wish I could find again the episode with the ghosts/terrifying folkloric creatures from someone who had an experience whilst camping in Scotland. That was one of my favourites. There are some lame stories but in amongst them - a few gems.

I told the one I've told here, about the full body apparition I saw in the house where I grew up, only to find out many years later that someone else in the house that week as a guest saw the identical thing. And neither of us had ever breathed a word to the other.

I currently have the following fortean podcasts cued:
Black Tapes http://theblacktapespodcast.com/ Serial Fiction
Welcome to Nightvale http://www.welcometonightvale.com Serial Fiction

The Black Tapes seems to have stalled after season 2. It's a well-made series, although they introduced so many plot threads they were never going to weave them all together again. With a very catchy intro song.

Night Vale is also very well made but a bit too much X-files + Twin Peaks.

I also liked Conspiracy Skeptic, stopped in 2013: http://www.yrad.com/cs/index.htm

This one is great: http://occultofpersonality.net/daniel-harms/ The rest is not my taste.

Not a podcast and alas also stopped is this great site: http://forgetomori.com/

I've a feeling that The Black Tapes season 3 might be on the horizon. The new production from PNWS called Rabbits has just finished and Tanis is close to completing its third season. Earlier in the year the producer did mention that the next season of The Black Tapes would follow Rabbits. So fingers crossed.

I have recently caught up with The Box and The Magnus Archive; the latter being particularly good.

No one? Really?
Well I've enjoyed a few of the Monster Talk podcasts although the guest that swears all the time (Dr Kim Fade or something like that) is pretty hard to take since he just poo-poos anything he doesn't agree with
but doesn't provide any arguments for his position. He swears a lot though, so FUCK YEAH, he's cool, right? No. But the other Monster Talk podcasts I've listened to are good.
They mentioned an HP Lovecraft literary podcast and THAT I am loving! It's just a couple of dudes talking about Lovecraft tales with some cool music and VERY cool narration and it works really well. They have a good laugh together and I found myself laughing out loud along with them at times. "Guys went to the top of the great pyramid to punch each other in the face, huh, WTF?!"

I am a bit of a housewife although I'm a man - you may call me a blouse if you like - and I love listening to these podcasts doing my chores, they're great.
Try them out.

Been enjoying Astonishing Legends recently. Very good indeed- in depth. Their Mothman series of episodes spans a good eight hours!

http://www.astonishinglegends.com/

And their "Electronic Fog" one really captivated me...not entirely sure why, not something I'd ever been that interested in but it was great. Fascinating and chilling - http://www.astonishinglegends.com/al-podcasts/2017/3/10/ep-64-electronic-fog

Thanks for this is a great mix of humor and fortean interest. The laughing Indian story
