Strange Crimes

Naked man found atop headless mom in Jersey Shore apartment

A 46-year-old naked man, covered in blood, was reportedly on top of the body of his decapitated mother when police arrived at the man’s Jersey Shore apartment building.

Jeffrey D. Surgent called 911 on Friday afternoon confessing he’d just killed his mother. Police arrived to find 74-year-old Alexandri M. Surgent dead in her son’s hallway.

The victim’s severed head was found a few feet away from where the Surgents were lying. Security video shows that head being tossed out of the alleged killer’s Ocean City, New Jersey, unit and into the hall of his Ocean City Housing Authority building. Surgent, wearing no clothing, is then seen dragging his mom’s corpse into the hallway too.

The suspect reportedly told police he had mental health issues and screamed he was sorry as he was taken into custody. Surgent also sang “Jesus Loves Me” at that time.

It's like the (alleged) black comedy of a Thomas Harris novel; similarly laid on with a trowel.

I found this interesting. People in the UK may or may not know of this. It is a 25 year old scandal involving a pediatric pathologist, Dick van Velzen, who practiced in Liverpool and moved to Halifax Nova Scotia:

On Jan. 18, 1998, Kent Dooley sat across from a brilliant pediatric pathologist with a devoted following at Halifax's IWK Grace children's and maternity hospital and told him he was fired.

The move by Dooley, the head of pathology and laboratory services, was bewildering to many outside the division.

"'I sure hope you have a good reason for this,'" Dooley recalls the hospital's head of obstetrics telling him later that day.

"'Yeah, I do,'" he replied. "'And I can't tell you what it is.'"

That polarizing moment, it later turned out, would save the hospital from the riptide of a macabre scandal that exploded less than two years later on the other side of the Atlantic.

It was revealed that the organs, including hearts and brains, from more than 850 infants were being stored in the cellars of a building used by the Alder Hey hospital in Liverpool, England, stripped from the bodies of dead children and stockpiled without their parents' consent.

I remember this scandal very well indeed. The harvesting of the organ was legal because the hospital was allowed to ask families for 'tissue samples' to aid in future research.
The families of course agreed, thinking the 'samples' would be tiny slices that would fit on a microscope slide rather than entire organs.

Some children were eventually exhumed and reburied with their missing body parts.

According to the article, he hoarded these parts as well, and never used them. Not sure what he thought he would actually do with them.

And he used people's names on papers that were never peer reviewed. He wrote results of autopsies he'd never performed. I don't understand what he thought he was getting out of it. It just seems like someone who was grossly negligent of his professional duties.

Great fun. Vid at link (may need to refresh screen).

Pensioner uses mobility scooter to ram customer for ‘taking last pasty*’
A furious pensioner appeared to use his mobility scooter to run down another man after he reportedly bought the last pasty from a bakery in Devon

* for our American readers, a pasty is a traditional savoury snack made from dog food, not one of those things you stick on your nipples.
Pasties are popular in Northern Michigan, I believe, perhaps in Minnesota and Wisconsin as well, brought by Cornish immigrants in the early 20th century. No idea if nipples are involved....:)

Hours-long search for suspicious motorist in fishpond Itteren

Police together with the fire brigade conducted an hours-long search for a suspicious motorist in a fishpond, near Itteren in South Limburg. As far as is known now, the man has not been found.

Shortly afterwards, reports of dangerous driving came in again, this time from the area of Bunde, just north of Maastricht. It soon turned out to be the same motorist.

He got stuck in a swampy meadow near the church village of Itteren on the Meuse and appeared to have walked into a fishpond there. Moments later, he surfaced on an island in the middle of the pond, where he walked in and out of the water. Suddenly he disappeared underwater, after which he was not seen again.

Emergency services, including the fire brigade and two diving teams, searched the water for hours. A helicopter was also deployed. The fire brigade sailed to the island, but the search was unsuccessful. As dusk began to fall, the search ceased.

Wanted ghost driver (43) found dead in pond in Itteren

The 43-year-old man wanted in a fishpond in the South Limburg town of Itteren since yesterday afternoon has been found dead. Police recovered his body from the water this afternoon, writes 1Limburg.

The man from Buchten was seen speeding on the A2 yesterday morning and fled when police approached. He eventually drove himself stuck in a meadow in Itteren and ran into the fishpond. A search yesterday turned up nothing.

Yesterday morning, police swung into action after several reports of a ghost driver (= Dutch for: driver driving against traffic on a highway). They then failed to force the man to stop and he fled the scene. Soon after, the police again received reports of a motorist showing very dangerous driving behaviour. It turned out to be the same driver.

The police tracked the man down in Itteren, a village north of Maastricht. He drove himself stuck there and continued on foot. He did not respond to police requests and instead walked in and out of the fishpond. Until he remained in the water and the police could no longer find him.

An hours-long search ensued. The fire brigade, two diving teams and a helicopter were deployed in vain. "Everything was done yesterday to find him," a police spokesman said. "But it got dark, and then the search had to stop." The search resumed today and so today the man's remains were found in the pond.

The police are not making any further announcements about the case.

The 23-year-old was shot in the chest by her teenage brother while she had her 10-month-old son in a carrier, the Florida sheriff's office said.
The boy was then shot by his older brother who took out his own gun, Pinellas County Sheriff's Office said.

It added that the shooting followed an argument over who was getting more presents.

Florida. Enough said.

A rather convoluted plot to cover up the killing unravels.

The former manager of Venezuelan rapper Canserbero has confessed to killing him in a video statement released by Venezuela's attorney-general.

The death in 2015 of Canserbero, who had been named best rapper in Spanish by Rolling Stone magazine, had originally been ruled a suicide.
Ex-manager Natalia Améstica said she had drugged the rapper and stabbed him. With the help of her brother, she then threw the rapper's body from a 10th-story window, she said.

The death of the 26-year-old rapper, whose real name is Tyrone González, had shocked his fans, especially because it was ruled at the time that the star had killed his friend Carlos Molnar in a knife fight before jumping from a window.

His family and friends always doubted the official version of events and the case was reopened last month after much pressure from them.

On Tuesday, Venezuelan Attorney-General Tarek William Saab released video statements recorded on 19 December by Natalia and her brother Guillermo, in which the two recounted what had happened on the night Canserbero was killed. Natalia Améstica claims that she had become enraged during a tour of the rapper to Chile, when the rapper's friend and producer, Carlos Molnar, had told her that she would not be reimbursed for plane tickets she had bought, nor receive a share of the profits of the tour, which she claims she had organised.

'We made this to raise money for his funeral cost in this difficult time. We are absolutely heartbroken that this has happened.

'He was well known for his love of motorcycles and was loved by many. He was an amazing Son, Brother, Father and Friend.

'We can’t believe life has to go on without him'.

Well, if you shoot people, I can't imagine that you should expect a long life.
