Only saw a handful of eps. on the Beeb, but Ralph Bakshi's retread (well, he was at least involved as a producer) of Mighty Mouse seemed to be another in the mold of Ren & Stimpy: a cartoon that goes way beyond the call of duty in providing gags that only the grown-ups will appreciate, but which the schedulers assume is meant for kids just because it's a cartoon. Linear-minded dolts.
And then there's The Powerpuff Girls: it's variable -some eps are definitely on a par with Barney for depth and adult appeal, but then they turn around and do eps that you cannot imagine any kid fully appreciating -like the one where one of the Powerpuff's becomes convinced that she's Mojo Jojo and rips the piss out of his tendency to repeat and paraphrase himself to the nth degree, and there's another ep. where nearly every single line -and most of the plot- is a Beatles reference!
