Cannibalism: Disturbing, Gory—Strangely Common

You could just eat people who died of natural causes, although there's the risk of catching something and they might be a bit tough if they were old, you could also eat roadkill humans...

Woman held for eating friend in Russia
March 17, 2009

" A WOMAN from Russia's Siberian region of Irkutsk has been arrested for killing a friend of hers then eating part of the corpse, Interfax news agency reports.
The incident occurred on March 5 when the two women were drinking together at the suspect's home and an argument broke out between them.
"Investigators have information to suggest the woman cooked pieces of her murdered friend and ate them,'' said an official with the Russian prosecutor's investigative committee, Vladimir Salovarov.
He said that the perpetrator killed her friend with an axe and that uneaten parts of the victim's body had been found in a nearby waste bin.
The detained woman had confessed her guilt, Mr Salovarov said.
In a separate case, prosecutors in Russia's Udmurtiya region said last week they were searching for a man suspected of cannibalism after the mutilated body of a woman was found in the town of Izhevsk, according to the prosecutor's website. "

'Body sold' to Russia kebab shop

Police in Russia have arrested three homeless men suspected of killing a man, eating part of the body and selling other parts to a kebab shop.

The men were held in the city of Perm, some 1,400km (870 miles) east of Moscow, local investigators said.

Their statement said that the suspects had targeted the 25-year-old victim out of "personal hostility".

It was not clear when the incident occurred. The men - who have not been named - have been charged with murder.

The investigators said on Friday that the body of the man had been found in a forested area near a public transport stop in Perm.

They said the three men attacked their victim with knives and a hammer.

"After carrying out the attack, the corpse was dismembered. Part of it was eaten and part was also sold to a kebab and pie kiosk," their statement said.

It was not immediately clear if any customers had been served.

'Cannibal' trial opens in France

Nicolas Cocaign at the Rouen courthouse - 21 June 2010 Cocaign said his requests for psychiatric help were ignored

A French convict has gone on trial for murdering and eating part of the body of his cell-mate.

Nicolas Cocaign admitted to a court in Rouen that he killed his victim before cutting him open and removing part of his lung, which he then ate.

His lawyers said his repeated requests for psychiatric help before the attack had been ignored.

Cocaign, 39, faces life in prison if convicted for the murder of Thierry Baudry in 2007.

Prosecutors say Cocaign beat Baudry before stabbing him with a pair of scissors and then suffocating him with a plastic bag.

He then allegedly cut him open, removing a rib and pulling out part of his lung, mistaking it for Baudry's heart.

Before the trial, he had told investigators that he wanted to eat his victim's heart in order to take his soul.

"I made several appeals for help, saying I was a man capable of being dangerous. I took action, and then they took me seriously," he told the court.

The court also heard a summary of Cocaign's life, from his adoption at age three to his troubled youth and scrapes with the law.

He was serving a sentence for attempted rape at the time of Baudry's murder. A verdict is expected later this week.

Convict gets 30 years for killing cellmate, then eating his lung

RUADHÁN Mac CORMAIC

Sat, Jun 26, 2010

A FRENCH CONVICT who killed his cellmate and ate his lung has been sentenced to a 30-year prison term.

The court in Rouen ruled that Nicolas Cocaign (39) may not benefit from early release until he has served 20 years, and ordered that he receive psychiatric treatment. Cocaign had admitted killing his cellmate Thierry Baudry after they had a fight on January 2th, 2007.

He said he flew into an “uncontrollable” rage after his victim gave him a “dirty look” when he ordered him to wash his hands in the tiny cell they shared with a third inmate in Rouen.

“I had a sexual urge, an adrenaline rush,” Cocaign, whose bearded face is tattooed with bloody tears and a skull, told his trial.

Cocaign first strangled Baudry, then ripped out a piece of the victim’s lung and ate part of it raw before cooking the rest. “What I did, I liked doing,” he said.

The court had heard that Cocaign had a long history of mental problems. He had requested psychiatric help in 1998 and asked to be placed in isolation in 2006.

“It’s exceptional to see a psychologically disturbed person say ‘I have to be treated’,” said defence lawyer Fabien Picchiottino, noting the “failure of the psychiatric, penitentiary and social system”.

Cocaign also stressed his troubled background in his testimony: he was abandoned by his 21-year- old homeless mother and was cared for by the state until he was adopted at age three. From the age of six he was under the care of a psychologist.

Cocaign was in jail for armed robbery and was awaiting trial for attempted rape at the time of the killing. Baudry was serving a sentence for sexual assault.

The third cellmate was investigated over Baudry’s death but cleared of any wrongdoing. He later died by suicide.

Before the jury retired to deliberate, Cocaign addressed the mother, three sisters and brother of the victim.

“I want to apologise before the Baudry family,” he said, “if they accept my apology.”

I recall reading of one serial killer who wanted to eat someone. He murdered her and tried to eat some of her thigh, but didn't like it as he said it was too fatty. I recall another who wanted to drink blood, but couldn't drink copious amounts as it made him vomit. I have no idea who the two individuals are though.

Cannibal restaurant adverts turn German stomachs

Flime restaurant seeking diners willing to donate body parts to be turned into gourmet meals, but some suspect a ruse

guardian.co.uk, Kate Connolly in Berlin. 26 August 2010

Would you be prepared to sacrifice your testicles, stomach fat or ears for the sake of high-class cuisine? A soon-to-open Berlin restaurant is touting for diners willing to do just that: donate body parts that it says it will turn into gourmet meals according to the age-old cooking habits of an Amazonian tribe infamous for its cannibalism.

The promotion has been declared grossly distasteful by a growing number of protesters, who say it is in particularly bad taste following the case of a real cannibal in Germany.

In a prominent advertising campaign on the internet, in German newspapers and on television, the restaurant, Flime, is appealing for willing donors and diners to become members of what it hints at being a new dining movement.

"Members declare themselves willing to donate any part of their body," the advertisement reads, adding that any resulting hospital costs will be taken on by the restaurant. They say they are also looking to employ an "open-minded surgeon".

The location of the restaurant – if it exists – is being kept a secret, as is the identity of the owners and investors behind it. As a foretaste of its menu, Flime is suggesting traditional Brazilian dishes such as bolinho, which it describes as "fried tatar balls with a sweet-sour dip", or feijoada, a main course consisting of "various pieces of meat with black beans and rice". It does not specify what type of meat is used.

The restaurant cites as its inspiration the indigenous Brazilian Waricaca tribe, which once practised the ritual of "compassionate cannibalism", or eating parts of the corpse of a loved one to emphasise the connection between the living and the dead, which was said to help with mourning.

The advertising campaign has provoked incredulity and outrage in equal measure. Michael Braun, the vice-chairman of Berlin's Christian Democrat party, said he had received several protest emails calling for the restaurant to be banned. He had been unable to get to the bottom of who was behind what he said might be "a stunt".

"I'm working on the assumption that this is some sort of a warped joke," he told Bild. "But it's disgusting, not least because it wasn't long ago that we had the case of the Berliner who was murdered by a cannibal."

Braun was referring to the case of the computer technician Bernd Jürgen Brandes, who in 2001 volunteered himself to the self-confessed cannibal Armin Meiwes, who chopped off his penis and prepared it as a dish seasoned with salt, pepper and garlic.

Meiwes then killed Brandes and consumed his flesh over the following months. He was sentenced to life imprisonment in 2006.

The case drew attention to a growing underground cannibal movement. Experts believe cannibalism has about 800 followers in Germany alone, only a minimal number of whom have carried out the practice.

Flesh-eating Hastings killer jailed for 21 years
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-sussex-11344281

Graham Fisher Graham Fisher confessed to his crimes while a patient at Broadmoor

A Broadmoor patient who confessed to killing two women in East Sussex in 1998 and eating flesh from one of them has been jailed for at least 21 years.

Graham Fisher, 37, admitted the manslaughter of Clare Letchford and Beryl O'Connor in Hastings, on the grounds of diminished responsibility.

He also admitted trying to murder and rape a Czech student on a train and raping a London woman in her home.

Lewes Crown Court heard he confessed because he knew he remained a danger.

The bodies of Ms Letchford, 40, and widow Ms O'Connor, 75, were found strangled and burned in their Hastings flats less than 100 yards apart in January 1998.

'Sexually sadistic'

Fisher, of Bromley, south-east London, said he cut flesh from Ms Latchford's arm and ate it.

Prosecutor Richard Barton said both women were lonely former neighbours of Fisher.

Fisher's attack on the 19-year-old student happened in the same month in a toilet cubicle on board a Hastings to London Charing Cross service.

Another vulnerable woman in her early 40s was raped by Fisher at her home in Bromley in 1991.

Prosecutors said Fisher targeted lonely women, some of whom he knew, to satisfy what one psychiatrist described as a "sexually sadistic" aspect to his personality.

Fisher confessed to his crimes in 2008 while at the high-security hospital in Berkshire.
Clare Letchford (left) and Beryl O'Connor (right) The victims were found eight days apart in their neighbouring homes

He was part-way through serving a five-year jail term for indecently assaulting two Spanish students at knifepoint in Eastbourne, East Sussex, in May 1998.

He was transferred to Broadmoor under the Mental Health Act following concerns that he was a "grave danger".

Sentencing him on Friday, Judge Mr Justice Keith said Fisher's detention in hospital would be subject to progress of his treatment.

But he added that it could be decades before Fisher was released back into the community.

The judge said that it had been "to his credit" that he decided while he was at Broadmoor "to get these terrible crimes off his chest, because he was concerned that he was too dangerous at that stage to be transferred from Broadmoor to a less secure hospital but also because he wanted to remain at Broadmoor".

Det Ch Insp Trevor Bowles, of Sussex Police's major crime branch, said the investigation had been "long and complex".

"The six offences to which Fisher pleaded guilty demonstrate the extreme danger he poses to the public.

"His offences have wrecked the lives of many individuals and families," he said.

Cannibal texts in Holocaust play provoke mass walkouts
http://www.irishtimes.com/newspaper/wor ... 24654.html
DEREK SCALLY in Berlin

Fri, Nov 05, 2010

PROVOCATION IS the tool of choice of Austrian writer and dramatist Elfriede Jelinek. Mass walkouts from one of her plays in Düsseldorf, however, suggest that, even for a Nobel prize laureate, it is not necessarily a good idea to mix the Holocaust and cannibalism.

Jelinek’s play Rechnitz relates events from May 1945 when a Thyssen heiress and her dinner party guests massacred 180 Jewish forced labourers. The bodies were discovered by accident 30 years later in a mass grave on the Austrian-Hungarian border.

The play has caused controversy because of how Jelinek chooses to end the evening, with dialogue from the internet chats of German cannibal Armin Meiwes, who achieved worldwide notoriety for killing and consuming a victim in 2001.

Düsseldorf director Hermann Schmidt-Rahmer defended the closing passage – cut from the play’s premiere in 2008 – as “a typical Jelinek claim, to be seen a metaphorical sense”.

“We are taught to think of the Holocaust as a bureaucratic act,” he told the Rheinische Post newspaper, “but Jelinek is telling us that people were eaten up, not in the literal sense, but in a rampage in the style of Dionysus [the Greek God of ritual madness].

“The cannibal text is put in at the end very consciously,” he added, “as a wake-up call that forces resistance through provocation.”

Audiences seem to be feeling more of the provocation than the wake-up call. “I feel sorry for anyone involved in this production,” said one audience member to his neighbour at the premiere.

When the woman said she was the play’s directorial assistant, and proud of it, the man reportedly spat in her face and walked out.

In an effort to calm tempers, the theatre has organised discussions between directors, actors and audiences. “The piece is so disturbing because it sucks you into a slipstream of incomprehension where you can’t escape,” said actor Daniel Christensen.

“The question is whether, in the circumstances of the time, I would have become a perpetrator too,” one woman in the audience said.

“For me the problematic point isn’t quoting the cannibal but the opportunity this gives me to distance myself comfortably [from the piece].”

Prehistoric People Ate Each Other, Bones Show
http://news.discovery.com/archaeology/c ... 01213.html

A new method of identifying human gnaw marks on bones suggest early humans got nutrition from each other's flesh.

By Jennifer Viegas | Mon Dec 13, 2010 08:39 AM ET

Prehistoric humans, along with Neanderthals and Homo antecessor, made meals of each other, suggests new research on probable human teeth marks found on prehistoric human bones.

The findings, which will be published in the January issue of The Journal of Human Evolution, support prior theories that the first humans to re-colonize Britain after the last ice age practiced nutritional cannibalism 12,000 years ago at a site called Gough's Cave in what is now Somerset, England.

It was a survival strategy, according to authors Yolanda Fernandez-Jalvo and Peter Andrews.

SLIDE SHOW: Faces of Our Ancestors

"Think that a member of your group dies," Fernandez-Jalvo told Discovery News. "The body can give one day off from hunting, which was always dangerous at that time, and what to do with the dead body that may attract other dangerous carnivores that may attack the group."

"This could be a good solution," she added, reminding that cannibalism does not always mean the cannibal killed the consumed individual.

To determine what patterns humans leave behind when they chew or gnaw on bones, the researchers had four different groups of European people chew raw and cooked meat bones from various animals.

The scientists also studied bones, now in a museum, which were chewed in the 1960's by the Koi people of Namibia. The Koi tended not to cook food as much as the Europeans did, so the researchers wanted to see what kind of damage they left behind on discarded bones.

The scientists also analyzed fossilized bone collections from ancient hominid sites in Spain, the U.K. and the Caucasus region.

They determined that when humans chew and gnaw bones, a distinctive pattern is left behind. It includes bent ends of bones, puncture marks, superficial linear marks, peeling, crenulated ends and double arch punctures on the chewed edge. Not all of these features are unique to human chewing, but in combination, the researchers believe the features provide evidence for human eating.

Since bone chewing usually occurs when the consumer is trying to get at marrow and the last bit of meat, the marks can help to distinguish nutritional cannibalism from ritual de-fleshing. The findings can also reveal which animals prehistoric humans and human ancestors ate.

"Indications of Homo habilis eating hedgehog and using tools to eat them" has already been identified, Fernandez-Jalvo said.

She also said evidence suggests Neanderthals consumed marine mammals shortly after these animals gave birth, "chasing the youngest as an easy and clever strategy and avoiding the adults that were quite dangerous."

There is also evidence for an older man in China using stones to bang down on meat so it would be easier to chew.

Charles Egeland, an assistant professor of anthropology at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, told Discovery News that "distinguishing human chewing damage from other agents (carnivores, non-human primates, non-biological processes) is extremely important."

"One of the more interesting implications of this study -- and there are many -- is that we may now have a useful set of criteria to identify meat-eating among early, pre-stone tool-using, hominids," he said.

"Somewhat ironically, this then raises the question of whether modern human chewing damage is actually the best analog for these early hominids," Egeland added. "Would chimpanzee chewing damage make a better analog?"

Pakistani duo are accused of cannibalism

Graveyard in Darya Khan Relatives discovered that the graves of their loved ones had been tampered with

A court in eastern Pakistan has extended the police custody of two brothers charged with cannibalism, officials say.

Arif Ali and Farman Ali were arrested earlier in the week. Police say they caught them making a meal of a corpse they had recently stolen from a grave.

The brothers' alleged cannibalism was discovered after the body of a newly deceased woman was found to be missing from her grave in the city of Sargodha.

Her family then alerted the police.

"We have charged them under the anti-terrorism act," Inspector Abdur Rahman of Darya Khan police told the BBC.

"They have been produced in court in Sargodha today."

Both brothers are small scale landowners in the town of Darya Khan, located on the border of the provinces of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
'No clear reason'

The family of the woman said to have been eaten became suspicious when they visited her grave a few days after she had been buried to find that it had been disturbed.

After digging to check the body was still there, they found it to be missing.

A police complaint was lodged - and the subsequent investigation led to the house of the brothers.

"They had cut a part of the corpse and were cooking it when we appeared on the scene," a police official said.

The other remains of the 24-year-old, who died of cancer, were recovered from the brothers' residence.

Police have not revealed any clear reason as to why the men are said to have resorted to cannibalism.

They say the pair appear to be in sound physical and mental condition and were living in seclusion with their sister, whose mental condition is said to be unstable.

The brothers have also allegedly admitted eating local dogs before turning to human meat.

Neighbours have expressed shock at the discovery, saying they never suspected that the two men could be involved in such acts.

How can they be charged under the anti terrorism act?

The inquest of a man killed by a cannibal in Broadmoor Hospital has heard details of how his attacker ended up in the high security facility.

Richard Loudwell died 41 days after being attacked by Peter Bryan at the Berkshire secure unit in April 2004.

A juror gasped as the coroner read harrowing details of how Bryan killed and ate another man in February 2004.

He was sent to Belmarsh Prison before being transferred to Broadmoor, 10 days before attacking Mr Loudwell.

The court in Windsor was also told that Bryan had previously spent eight years at Rampton Hospital for killing a 21-year-old woman with a claw hammer in 1993.

In the first day of the inquest, coroner Peter Bedford read a statement to the jury from a nurse at the Luton ward of Broadmoor.

'Grave risk'
She had discovered 60-year-old Mr Loudwell with head injuries on the floor of the ward dining room on 25 April 2004.

Bryan described to the nurse how he had attacked Mr Loudwell, hitting his head on the floor, and told her that he "wanted to eat him".

He had been admitted to the ward on 15 April, after a stay at Belmarsh prison where he was variously described as "unpredictable", presenting a "grave risk to others" and "extremely dangerous".

Mr Bedford told the jury that during the days that followed Bryan had appeared to staff to settle "well" on the ward and mix "appropriately" with other patients.

The inquest is expected to last two weeks.

DA: Ex-Model Who Cooked, Ate Husband Still a Threat
KTLA News

12:24 a.m. PDT, October 4, 2011
COSTA MESA, Calif. -- A prosecutor is opposing parole for a former model convicted of killing her husband, then cooking and eating his remains 20 years ago.

Omaima Aree Nelson is seeking early release from her 27-years-to-life sentence for murdering William E. Nelson, 56, over Thanksgiving weekend in 1991.

Nelson is scheduled to appear at a parole board hearing next Wednesday in Chowchilla State Prison in Central California.

Sign up for KTLA 5 Breaking News Email Alerts

Her first bid at parole was rejected in 2006.

The prosecutor who helped send Nelson to prison has written a letter to the board saying Nelson would be a threat to public safety if released.

He says he'll never forget the horror of visiting the couple's home.

"There were suitcases and plastic bags soaked with dark liquid from his body parts. In the fry cooker there sat Mr. Nelson's hands and when we opened the refrigerator, there was Mr. Nelson's head with stab wounds," Palowski recalls.

"She had his entrails in his Corvette and she was trying to get an ex-boyfriend to yank out the dentures from the head so she could dump it in the Back Bay."

Nelson, who worked as a part-time model and nanny in Egypt, immigrated to the U.S. in 1986.

She was in her 20's when she killed her husband and then dismembered and cooked parts of his body in their Costa Mesa apartment.

The couple had been married for about a month.

After the murder, Nelson boiled her husband's head on the stove in an attempt to remove his teeth, skinned his torso and fried his hands in oil, Pawloski told the Daily Pilot.

Nelson told a psychiatrists that she carved up part of her husband's back and dipped it in barbecue sauce, something she now denies.

Nelson then drove garbage bags filled with the body parts to various ex-boyfriends, asking them to help dispose of the evidence and offering $75,000 for help, Pawloski said.

Neighbors at the time said the garbage disposal was on for "a long time" and "constant chopping sounds" were coming from the home, according to the newspaper.

In court, a psychiatrist testified that Nelson put on red shoes, a red hat and red lipstick before spending hours chopping up her husband's body.

According to Pawloski, Nelson was the first defendant to used the "battered wife" defense in Orange County, claiming her husband raped her the night before she killed him.

She also told psychiatrists and her attorney that she had been the victim of sexual abuse as a child in Egypt where she was molested, beaten and forced to undergo female circumcision, a mutilation of the female genitalia.

Virginia girl found eating herself in cage in mobile home; parents Brian and Shannon Gore charged
BY MICHAEL SHERIDAN
DAILY NEWS STAFF WRITER
Wednesday, May 04, 2011

A young girl was found caged and attempting to eat herself in a mobile home in Virginia and cops say her parents are responsible.

The malnourished girl, believed to be either 5 or 6, was discovered in a crib that was converted into a makeshift cage after police arrived at the home in Gloucester County to investigate a burglary last week.

The girl's parents, Brian and Shannon Gore, were arrested and charged with felony child abuse. The mother was also charged with attempted capital murder.

However, the gruesome twosome now faces first-degree murder charges after the remains of what authorities believe to be another child were found buried outside their mobile home.

"I've done this for 20 years and I've never seen anything like this in my life," Gloucester Sheriff's Maj. Darrell Warren said.

A month-old baby boy was also found in the home, but was in good condition. Both he and the older girl are now in the care of the county Department of Social Services.

The horrific find came as police investigated a robbery on April 17.

A child's remains were found buried outside the Gores' home. (WTKR)

A nearby homeowner reported his house was broken into and claimed gold bullion, a vacuum cleaner, a passport, $2,000 in cash and other items had been stolen, according to a police report.

Investigators trailed the bullion to an auction house, which claimed to have bought the gold from 25-year-old Shannon Gore.

Authorities arrived at her mobile home in Gloucester with a search warrant when they made the shocking discovery.

The girl's blond-hair was matted and filled with knots. She wore only a diaper and t-shirt and was eating flakes of dried skin on her body.

Brian Gore, 29, reportedly told police the girl had been kept in the cage since the summer.

"It was horrific. I don't know what else to say," Lt. Scott Little of the Sheriff's Department told Virginia's Daily Press on Friday.

"They seemed like nice people," neighbor Tim Hudnall told the newspaper. He noted he had seen the baby boy, but never saw a girl with the Gores in the six years they've been neighbors.

"He was really a nice guy," Brian Gore's ex-girlfriend, Sandy, told WTKR 3 News in Norfolk. "He went to church and everything."

Deputies discovered the child's remains while digging under and around a shed at the mobile home Friday evening. The age, gender and identity of the remains are not known, pending an examination by the state Medical Examiner's Office.

The Gores are being held in prison as authorities determine how the child died. An autopsy report by the state medical examiner is pending.

A squad of 22 police officers on the island are now searching for Henri Haiti, a local guide who took Mr Ramin on a goat hunting trip in the mountains of Nuku Hiva and is believed to be the last person to see him alive.
After setting off on the hunt, Mr Haiti returned to tell Ms Ramin's girlfriend Heike Dorsch, 37, that there had been an accident and that Mr Ramin had been injured. But when she tried to raise the alarm, Mr Haiti allegedly attacked her and tied her to a tree, before fleeing the scene.
Miss Dorsch managed to escape after several hours and alert authorities. The army has since joined in the hunt for Mr Haiti.

Mr Ramin set off with Miss Dorsch from Germany in 2008 on what was supposed to be the trip of a lifetime. They arrived on Nuku Hiva, largest of the Marquesas islands, in their catamaran on Sept 16. They has planned to spend several months in French Polynesia.

Mr Ramin, who lists "travelling, blue water sailing, kiting, kitesurfing, surfing, diving" as his interests on Facebook, had been missing for a week when the police found his remains. Bones, teeth and melted fillings were also found in the campfire ashes.
Investigators believe a "human body was hacked to pieces and burned", according to the Daily Mail.

A spokesman for the German foreign ministry said it was "aware of the case and in contact with locals authorities."

News websites in French Polynesia said the incident had shocked the nation.
"No one can believe what has happened," Deborah Kimitete, the deputy mayor of Nuku Hiva, told the local news website Les Nouvelles.
"This has never happened here before, this is the first time, it's horrible."
Les Nouvelles also reported that Mr Haiti's family had been out looking for him. He was described by one local as young man who loved sport and was well known in the village.

Nuku Hiva has a population of just over 2000 and has a history of cannibalism, but the practice was believed to have ceased. The island featured in the stories of Herman Melville, author of Moby Dick.

Two Dutch TV hosts claim they ate chunks of each other’s flesh because they wanted to find out what human meat tastes like, all in front of a studio audience.

The feat will air on Dennis Storm and Valerio Zeno’s new show, “Preojfkonijen,” which translates to “Test Rabbits.”

“The punchline of the show is to get really simple answers on stupid questions, such as, ‘Can you shave with ketchup’ or ‘Can you drive blind?’” Storm told ABCNews.com. “And we wanted to find out how human flesh tasted.”

A chef fried a hunk of Storm’s buttocks, and a piece of Zeno’s abdomen, both carved off earlier by a surgeon, in a pan with sunflower oil, skipping salt and pepper to preserve the meat’s natural taste.

Then the daring duo dug in.

“We went to the butcher, the surgeon and the studio, then we looked at each other and just ate it,” Storm said. “The special thing was, it was his flesh, of course.”

Neither was too impressed by the taste of human flesh, they told ABCNews.com.

“Nothing is really that special when you’re talking about the taste of meat,” Storm said in the interview. “But it is weird to look into the eyes of a friend when you are chewing on his belly.”

The stunt, which will air Wednesday in the Netherlands, was worth it, Storm said.

“It was just a few centimeters of meat,” he told the website. “And now I have a good story about that scar.”

There must be some pretty jaded palates in the Netherlands (literally!) if this is what passes for a cookery show. That's assuming they're telling the truth, naturally.

Has to be the weirdest thing I've heard all year.

If celebrity chefs would gobble each other, I might buy a licence.

Tastes just like coq, I'm told. :p

Russian police have arrested a suspected serial killer who they believe ate parts of his victims.

Alexander Bychkov, 24, from the town of Belinsky is suspected of killing at least six people whose remains were found buried near his home.

An investigator told Izvestia newspaper that he had used a knife to kill his victims and then ate their livers.

Another man, Alexander Zhuplov, was convicted of carrying out some of the killings last year.

It is not yet clear what will happen to him.

The authorities said Mr Bychkov gave details of the crimes while being questioned about a theft from a shop.

"The suspect identified the photos of those who died," one official told the paper.

Police have now begun looking into unexplained disappearances between 2009 and 2011 in Belinsky, a small town of around 8,000 people in the Penza region 550km (341 miles) south-east of Moscow.

Three held over cannibalism claims

Police in north-eastern Brazil say they have arrested three people who allegedly killed at least two women, ate parts of their bodies and used their flesh to make stuffed pastries known as empadas that they then sold.

Inspector Wesley Fernandes of the Garanhuns city police department tells the Globo TV network that a man, his wife and his mistress have confessed to the grisly crimes. The three were arrested on Wednesday.

Fernandes says the three said they belonged to a sect that preached "the purification of the world and the reduction of its population".

Police traced the three after one of the women used a credit card belonging to one of the victims who disappeared last month.
