Cannibalism: Disturbing, Gory—Strangely Common

Naked Man Allegedly Eating Victim's Face Shot And Killed By Miami Police
One man is dead and another hospitalized after a bizarre assault off Miami's MacArthur Causeway reportedly forced a police officer to open fire.

City of Miami police say the incident began Saturday afternoon about 2 p.m. when an officer responded to reports of 2 men fighting in the bike path of the Biscayne Boulevard exit ramp, alongside the Miami Herald's parking garage. There, according to the Herald, the officer observed a naked man eating another man's face:

The officer...approached and saw that the naked man was actually chewing the other man's head, according to witnesses. The officer ordered the naked man to back away, and when he continued the assault, the officer shot him.

The attacker continued to eat the man, despite being shot, forcing the officer to continue firing. Witnesses said they heard at least a half dozen shots.

According to CBS Miami, police sources said the victim had "virtually no face" and was unrecognizable.

"[Officers] attempted to separate them, there was some sort of confrontation," Miami Police spokesman Willie Moreno told Local10.

Photographs taken from the Herald's garage show the naked man lying dead at the scene. Police said his victim was transported to Ryder Trauma Center at Jackson Memorial Hospital.

Officials have yet to identify the officer involved, the deceased, or the victim. The incident snarled traffic on the causeway for hours during busy Memorial Day weekend as multiple lanes of vehicles were routed around the crime scene.

Yeuch. Any bets drugs were involved?

When you say that, it kind of reminds me of this:
Big Lurch (born Antron Singleton c. 1975, in Fort Worth, TX, although some sources say Compton, California) is a rap artist currently serving a life sentence for murdering 21 year old female acquaintance Tynisha Ysais and eating parts of her body in April 2002 while under the influence of PCP.

During his music career, Singleton worked with such Bay Area rappers as Too Short, Mac Dre, RBL Posse, C-Bo, E-40, and New Orleans based Mystikal.

In April 2002, Singleton murdered Tynisha Ysais in her apartment while under the influence of PCP. Her boyfriend Thomas Moore testified that he and Singleton spent the evening prior to the murder smoking PCP, also known as Angel Dust.

The victim was found in her apartment by her friend Alisa Allen. Her chest had been torn open and a three-inch blade was found broken off in her shoulder blade. Teeth marks were found on her face and lungs, which had been torn from her chest.

Eyewitnesses reported that when Singleton was picked up by police, he was naked in the middle of the street, covered in blood and staring at the sky. A medical examination performed shortly after his capture found human flesh in his stomach which was not his own.

On November 7, 2003, he was sentenced to life in prison. He had been convicted of murder and aggravated mayhem the previous June after pleading not guilty by reason of insanity at the time of the murder. The court ruled that his intoxication and plea of insanity were not satisfactory reasons for committing the crime.

Maryland man charged with killing, eating man's brain, heart
Man, 21, charged with first-degree murder

Alexander Kinyua is charged in the killing of Kujoe Bonsafo Agyei- Kodie

Alexander Kinyua is charged in the killing of Kujoe Bonsafo Agyei- Kodie (Harford County Sheriff's Office / May 30, 2012)

By Justin Fenton, Kayla Bawroski and Kevin Rector, Baltimore Sun Media Group

2:48 p.m. EDT, May 31, 2012

A 21-year-old Morgan State University student told investigators that he ate the heart and portions of the brain of a man whose dismembered remains were found in his Joppa home, according to a grisly account from the Harford County Sheriff's Office.

The arrest of Alexander Kinyua came almost a week after Kujoe Bonsafo Agyei-Kodie, 37, went missing, and followed a search of the home the two men apparently shared in the 500 block of Terrapin Terrace in Joppatowne early Wednesday morning, police said.

Kinyua, an electrical engineering student who until January was involved in the ROTC program at Morgan, was ordered held without bail at a court appearance Thursday afternoon.

Monica Worrell, a spokeswoman for the Harford County Sheriff's Office, said today that Agyei-Kodie had been reported missing, but information collected by detectives "didn't pass the smell test." On Monday, police released a public appeal for help in locating him.

Late Tuesday night, Antony Kinyua, notified police that his son, Kinyua's brother, had found what they believed were human remains in the basement of the house, according to charging documents. Upon their arrival, Jarrod Kinyua told police he found a human head and two human hands inside metal tins, under a blanket in the laundry room.

When he asked Alexander Kinyua about the remains, Jarrod Kinyua said his brother denied that they were human and said they were animal remains, according to charging documents. After calling his father, Antony Kinyua, downstairs, the pair discovered the remains had been moved and Alexander Kinyua was washing out the metal tins.

With a search and seizure warrant for the location, deputies were able to locate the head and hands on the main floor of the house, according to charging documents. They also interviewed Alexander Kinyua, who allegedly admitted that he had killed Agyei-Kodie by cutting him up with a knife and afterward, ingested his heart and portions of his brain.

Kinyua also directed police to Towne Baptist Church, in the 500 block of Trimble Road, to find the rest of the remains, which were found in a Dumpster on the property, according to charging documents.

The case comes on the heels of shocking incidents in cities like Miami, where a naked man believed to be high on bath salts ate another man's face, and New Jersey, where a man disemboweled himself and reportedly threw his intestines at police officers. Police there say they aren't sure whether the man, Wayne Carter, was on drugs or suffering from mental illness.

At his first court appearance, defense attorney Lynne McChrystal requested that reasonable bail to be set in the case, adding that Kinyua has been in Harford County for six years and in Maryland for nine years. He is self-employed and performs consulting work, she added.

Upon questioning by Judge John L. Dunnigan, Kinyua said that all of his family members resided in Maryland and he was originally from Nairobi, Kenya.

Assistant State's Attorney Trenna Manners cited those out-of-country ties, as well as the "grisly" nature of the crime, when she asked for Kinyua to be held without bail.

The charges are not Kinyua's first in recent weeks, and a previous arrest and Kinyua's online postings point to a troubled man. In January, he was disenrolled from the ROTC program after two-and-a-half-years of participation, said Lt. Col. James Lewis, a professor of military service who oversees the program. Officials said it followed a disciplinary incident.

Then on May 20, Kinyua, who otherwise does not have a criminal record in Maryland, was charged with first-degree assault and reckless endangerment in Baltimore in connection with an incident that allegedly occurred May 19 at the Thurgood Marshall apartments, according to court records.

In that case, according to police, Kinyua "randomly" attacked another Morgan State student in a doorway of the apartment complex with a baseball bat, then fled into a nearby wooded area. The victim, listed as Joshua Ceasar, suffered fractures to his skull, arm, shoulder, as well as blindness to his left eye. The first responding officer saw Ceasar stumbling toward her, with blood coming from his forehead, and the officer noted a large amount of blood in the doorway.

Kinyua was ordered held on $220,000 bond in that case, and university officials said the school was in the process of expelling him.

On May 25, what appeared to be a plea from his parents for help paying Kinyua's legal fees in the case from was posted on the website Mwakilishi.com, a Kenyan news site. The post, which has since been removed, said Kinyua had been arrested for "being involved in a fight in his dormitory room at Morgan State University."

The online plea says, "In order to get him the best defense possible, we need to secure an attorney who will take his case and leave no stone unturned."

It also states a fundraising event was scheduled at the International Christian Community Church on Sunday. He was scheduled to appear at a preliminary hearing in that case June 19.

In the days prior to the arrest, he had posted several strange messages on his Facebook page, in all capital letters. In two of the posts, he uploaded "QR Codes," bar code images that when scanned with a smart phone lead to a web page. They both led to the following message about the "destruction of the black family":

"PROJECT CRACK CODE COUNTERING THE DESTRUCTION OF THE HUMAN FAMILY SPREAD THE MESSAGE OF CREATION SUPPORT CRACK TEAM STAY TUNED FOR MORE INFORMATION ON SURVIVAL OF THE HUMAN FAMILY."

In another, he wrote about campus shootings and "death cults":

"HEAR ME OUT HBCU'ERS: ARE YOU STRONG ENOUGH TO ENDURE RITUAL HBCU MASS HUMAN SACRIFICES AROUND THE COUNTRY AND STILL BE ABLE TO FUNCTION AS HUMAN BEINGS? IT'S BEEN ALL TOO TRAGIC WITH THE DUAL UNIVERSITY SHOOTINGS AT VIRGINIA TECH, AND OTHER PAST UNIVERSITY KILLINGS ACROSS THE COUNTRY. NOW FOR A TWIST: ETHNIC CLEANSING IS THE POLICY, STRATEGY AND TACTICS THAT WILL AFFECT YOU, DIRECTLY OR INDIRECTLY IN THE COMING MONTHS. THIS IS THE BRUTAL BASIS, AN EVIL & TERRIFYING METHOD OF THIS DEATH CULTS."

Jasmine Bloomfield said Kinyua was known around campus – "he was always all around campus involved with things" – but often acted strangely. He was "always in his own little world, preaching everywhere he went and talking about how he was writing a book." Once, she said, he got up during a screening of a documentary and started yelling about the struggle of black people.

But his page also shows Kinyua in the fall smiling at a campus event for student organizations, showing off a jacket for the National Society of Pershing Rifles, which according to its website is a fraternity for students in Reserve Office Training Corps program.

Late Wednesday, a man who answered a phone at the number listed said Antony and Beatrice Kinyua were "resting," and that the family did not wish to speak to the media without an attorney present.

Good News: People Eat Other People on a Pretty Regular Basis

In just the past week, a naked man ate a homeless guy's face in Miami, a New Jersey man threw his intestines at police, a Canadian porn star killed a man and ate parts of his body before mailing other parts to government officials, a Maryland man killed his roommate and ate his heart and brain, and a Staten Island pizza parlor owner nommed a dude's ear. It seems clear that this sudden burst of zombie activity points inexorably to the beginning of the end for mankind. But we started to wonder this morning — from inside our fortified, WiFi enabled, mountainside bunker — whether the only thing that's changed is that, in the wake of the headline-grabbing Miami incident, we've suddenly started paying a lot more attention to zombie-esque stories than we had in the past. After digging around, we found that while the frequency of cannibal stories over the past week is unusual, this kind of stuff happens fairly regularly. Here is a rundown of what we've found from just the past six months.

Cannibalism Seen in Gray Mouse Lemur

The gray mouse lemur has something in common with us—and it's not something good. Researchers trekking through the forests of western Madagascar looking for a radio-tagged female of the species (Microcebus murinus) have found a male dining on her flesh (shown above). The cause of the female's death is a mystery, since all of her vital organs were missing. This lemur was not previously known to eat other mammals, much less practice cannibalism. What's more, although cannibalism has been observed in a variety of primates, including chimpanzees, bonobos, orangutans, several monkeys, and perhaps even gorillas, all known victims of such cannibals have been infants or juveniles. Except, that is, in humans. The findings, reported in an upcoming issue of the American Journal of Primatology, suggest that nonhuman primate cannibalism is not limited to infants and juveniles. At the very least, the menu of the gray mouse lemur—one of the world's smallest primate species—is much larger than previously thought.

Two face prisoner murder charges

Two prisoners who disembowelled a fellow inmate at Durham's Frankland Prison have been given life sentences.

Mitchell Harrison, 23, originally of Wolverhampton, was serving an indefinite term for child rape in Cumbria when he was killed in October.

Michael Parr, 32, and Nathan Mann, 23, cut his neck with a scalpel made from plastic cutlery and a razor blade.

Newcastle Crown Court heard they cut the dead victim's stomach and planned to eat his liver, but did not do so.

Parr had earlier pleaded guilty to murder and must serve a minimum term of 32 years. He was already serving life for the attempted murder of a hospital patient.

I can't envisage circumstances in which either of them will ever be released”

Judge Justice Openshaw
Mann pleaded guilty to manslaughter on the grounds of diminished responsibility and was sentenced to life with a minimum term of 16 years, to run consecutively to the 24-year minimum sentence he is already serving for a double murder.

Harrison was jailed in January 2010 after he admitted raping a 13-year-old girl in Kendal, Cumbria.

He was killed in his cell at the category A facility, which has housed some of the UK's most high profile and dangerous inmates.

'Cannibalistic urges'
The court heard that Mann and Parr had expressed "fantasies" about beheading other prisoners and cutting out their stomachs.

Mann was described by a psychiatrist as "a remorseless, callous psychopath" who harboured "cannibalistic urges" and was "one of the most dangerous men in the criminal justice system".

Sentencing the pair for the "ghastly and gruesome" killing, Judge Justice Openshaw said: "I can't envisage circumstances in which either of them will ever be released.

"They will face the fact that they may well end their lives in prison."

Mitchell Harrison was jailed after admitting raping a 13-year-old girl
The Prisons and Probation Ombudsman is carrying out an independent investigation into the circumstances surrounding Mitchell's death.

A Prison Service spokesperson said: "We take the responsibility of keeping staff, prisoners and visitors safe extremely seriously.

"That's why we have a violence management system in place to deal with incidents quickly and robustly with serious incidents referred to the police immediately."

Det Ch Insp Steve Chapman, from Durham Police, said: "Mitchell Harrison was a young man who was by all accounts a model prisoner at HMP Frankland.

"Although his family never condoned his past actions, he was still their much loved son and brother and they were supporting him as he served his custodial sentence.

"His untimely death, and the horrific nature of it, left his family devastated."

Mitchell Harrison's family said in a statement: "Our lives have been shattered by Mitchell's horrific murder. His death was cruel and unnecessary."

Two things jump out at me with that story:

1. What's the point of giving someone a life sentence who is already serving a life sentence? I know life doesn't mean life in the UK judicial system, but even so. These two strike me as being perfect poster boys for the death sentence. No doubt about guilt, never be released, no chance of rehabilitation. Waste of time and money. A few cc's of sodium cyanide and Bob's your uncle.

2. If one of these guys is a 'remorseless, callous psychopath' then why is he not strait-jacketed up in a secure mental institution somewhere. A clear dereliction of duty by the administrators of the 'system', surely.

If you give someone a life sentence in the UK then they can become uncontrollable prisoners as they can't really be sentenced to much else on top of the life term.

Someone in prison for life in the States (for example) still has the added bonus of a death penalty if they murder another inmate or guard.

These two at least need to be locked away in solitary for 23 hours a day.

Yeah, agreed. I don't want to get off-thread here, but I don't see what that'd achieve, really. I'd prefer the bullet/brain option.

A popular POV for many people, I suppose. For me, that's the difference between justice and revenge. I don't see why we should be cruel about punishment, however heinous the crime. Paying with one's life is the ultimate sanction, after all, and should be taken as cleanly/quickly as possible.

I'm against the death penalty because it gives the State too much power and too much can go wrong.

Fine, maybe, when situations are clear cut, like the case in question, but even then, I'd say that, 'the ultimate sanction' is too much power to be in the hands of the State. There have to be some clear limits to power.

If things are less clear cut, then at least a life sentence is commutable. If Britain still had the death penalty, there would have been an awful lot of innocent people swung from the end of a rope in the last fifty years.

Agreed, kind of. I oscillate in my opinion of it, sometimes for, sometimes against. 55-45 for, I guess, assuming a credible system of justice with the appropriate safeguarding.

I'm afraid I don't look at it in such Orwellian terms, as power given to a state (or, indeed, State). I think it has little to do with the state and exercision of power. Clearly, corrupt and totalitarian regimes have never traditionally relied on such niceties as a rule of law to become corrupt and totalitarian in the first place.

Furthermore, I'd find it difficult to think of an 'awful lot' of innocent people who would have been hanged since the abolishment of the DP. There haven't been too many convicted of a - would-be - capital crime who have been exonerated. Birmingham Six, I suppose is the obvious example.

Indeed, the law isn't perfect, but I can probably think of more people deserving of capital punishment that didn't get it, than those who weren't but would have.

Quite simply, you can't cure a psychopath, possibly the burn out at some point, but there will never be any real remorse for their actions.

A hospital is for treatment...... For a psychopath there isn't any that works!

Then as a law graduate you should also be very aware that your own opinion aside, they were exonerated by a court of law,and as such are considered innocent - and suggestions to the contrary can thus be construed as libelous.

Perhaps you'd like to clarify your position on that particular group of free individuals?

Well, quite, but what are you going to do. Can't keep them in a prison where they slice up all the other inmates, and if you're not going to kill them, you may as well keep them in a secure facility.

I'm a great advocate of the 'oubliette' - a small hole, usually under a dungeon floor in a medieval castle, where you put people to forget (oublier - french - to forget)

As an aside, I've just read Jon Ronson's The Psychopath Test, which in incredibly interesting - and quite frightening - treatise on the difficulties of diagnosing sanity. Consider this - if I accused you of being a psychopath, how would you convince me that you're not psychopathic?

Yes, the words 'suggestion' and 'construed' are the vague terms that are tripping you up there. Libel is a published false statement, and since I deliberately 'suggested' an opinion, wholly without malice, libel would be a diffcult sell.

I do, however, take your point, and in respect for your moderatory position and the integrity of the board, I have edited my post to remove the suggestion in its entirety rather than clarify my position further.

Thank you - I took the liberty of editing your last post to sort out the quote tags.

We do have a somewhat overly twitchy legal dept. Trust me on that.

Papua New Guinea Alleged Cannibals Charged
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/07/1 ... 70688.html
By ROD McGUIRK 07/13/12 05:01 AM ET

CANBERRA, Australia -- Authorities have arrested 29 people accused of being part of a cannibal cult in Papua New Guinea's jungle interior and charged them with the murders of seven suspected witch doctors, police said Friday.

Madang Police Commander Anthony Wagambie confirmed a report in The National newspaper that said the cult members allegedly ate their victims' brains raw and made soup from their penises.

"They don't think they've done anything wrong; they admit what they've done openly," Wagambie told The Associated Press by telephone.

He said the killers believed that their victims practiced "sanguma," or sorcery, and that they had been extorting money as well as demanding sex from poor villagers for their supernatural services.

By eating witch doctors' organs, the cult members believed they would attain supernatural powers and literally become bullet-proof, he said.

"It's prevalent cult activity," Wagambie said. He said he believes there could be between 700 and 1,000 cult members in several villages in Papua New Guinea's remote northeast interior. All of them might have eaten human flesh, he said.

According to the report in The National, which is published in Papua New Guinea, 28 men and women appeared in a Madang court on Tuesday. Wagambie said they were charged with willful murder.

It was not clear what happened to the 29th suspect. Murder is punishable by death in Papua New Guinea, a poor South Pacific island nation.

Wagambie said the suspects were not required to plea to the murder charges and were being held in custody.

Police will gather more witness statements before pressing charges related to the cannibalism allegations, he said.

Cannibalism was part of traditional culture in Papua New Guinea, where human flesh was known as "long pig," and survived in isolated pockets into the latter part of the 20th century while the country was under Australian colonial rule.

Wagambie, 36, said he had never heard of a previous case of cannibalism in his lifetime.

He expected police would make around 100 arrests over the weekend for cult-related crimes.

Four of the seven victims were murdered last week, Wagambie said, adding that no remains had been recovered.

"They're probably all eaten up," he said.

World's First 'Human Butchery' To Set Up In London's Smithfield's Meat Market (PHOTOS)

Just when we think we've seen the wackiest from morbid cake curator Miss Cakehead, she ups the ante.

If you were turned off by her severed toe cookies, anatomically-correct macarons or gross-out cocktails, then you're probably not going to like her latest project, the world's first pop-up "human butchery."

HuffPost got a sneak peek at photos for the upcoming event, which is being sponsored by video game publisher Capcom to mark the release of "Resident Evil 6."

For the non-gamers among us, "Resident Evil" is a survival horror video game series that's bloody, to say the least. It's fitting, then, that the promotional launch for the latest installment feature meaty offerings from the "gory world of Wesker & Son, the fictional butcher with a penchant for human flesh," according to a release.

The make-believe butchery will open for two days, September 28 and 29, in a very real location -- London's famous meat market, Smithfield's -- and will offer some edible items for purchase: "Peppered Human & Lemon Sausages," "J’avo Caught Human Thigh Steaks" and specially-made pots of "Red Herb" and "Green Herb."

Never fear, the meat in question isn't actually human, although it's unclear what meat is used. Gross or not, we can't help but admire the pieces' clear artistry, which comes courtesy of artist Sharon Baker. From the look of her web site, she's created some creepy works before; check out these human bread casts.

If you can stomach it, take a look at more of Baker's meaty work for the "human butchery." Fair warning, a few of these pictures are NSFW.
Rather grisly photos at link.
