Clowns In The Woods

Police called in as pranksters dressed as clowns upset children in Newcastle

Schoolchildren have been targeted by people in clown costumes jumping out from behind bushes in US-inspired craze

Schoolchildren across Newcastle have been targeted by pranksters dressing up as clowns and jumping out from behind bushes.

Thought to be inspired by a craze in America, police have now been forced to step in after the youngsters were left “incredibly distressed”.

Northumbria police said they have received six separate reports since Friday, leaving parents and teachers very concerned.

They said no one had been attacked or injured in the incidents, but said they had also received further reports of clowns chasing pedestrians down the street.

Insp Stephen Wykes said: “The people carrying out these pranks may think they’re being funny but it is leaving a number of young people incredibly distressed.

“Parents of the children affected, and teachers at our local schools, are understandably concerned and we are working very closely with them as this is not something we want to see happening in our local community.

“There has only been a handful of these incidents, which we think have been inspired by a trend in America, but we are keen to stop them before they cause anyone else further distress.

Was it this clown ?

My son reports that police came to his school Wednesday, warning that a clown was sighted in the area.

I don't know if there were any actual clowns about, but this was at the high school, so I doubt it was any molester trying to lure a child. I told him that there had been an outbreak of clown sightings recently, so this was probably just a prank or mass hysteria. Son says whatever, if he sees a clown, he's running from it on principle.

George Best's son, I forget his name, had to be escorted from a nightclub in the Bigg Market a few years ago by the police because there was a baying mob waiting outside for him.
He's a bit of a clown.

Hoaxer owns up to Glasgow 'Creepy' clown picture

6 October 2016

After a wave of "creepy" clowns sightings in the United States over the summer, a hoaxer has admitted a similar "sighting" in Glasgow was faked. A Facebook page called "Killer Clowns in and around Glasgow" said a clown had been spotted underneath a bridge.
The post was shared more than 1,000 times before the poster admitted the picture had been taken elsewhere.

Anyone who actually went out dressed like that in Riddrie or Drumry wouldn't last 5 minutes.

For some reason, such things never happen out here in East Texas...
But apparently they do in West Texas:

Lubbock Police Receive Call About Clown Sighting At Rush Elementary School
Maggie Boomer October 5th, 2016

Amidst all the clown hysteria, it was only a matter of time before Lubbock was infiltrated by the creepy clown craze.
Last night, Tuesday, October 4, Rush Elementary School had its own appearance of a creepy clown according to Lubbock Police Department Public Information Officer Lt. Ray Mendoza.
Lt. Mendoza confirmed to KFYO News Wednesday afternoon that Lubbock police had received a call about a clown sighting.

Sounds more like the law is to prevent bank robbers and other criminals concealing their identity, so presumably if you saw someone with a mask on approaching the teller you'd know they were up to no good. Unless the South Carolina criminal fraternity are big fans of the Bill Murray movie Quick Change?

More likely it's because of the Ku Klux Klan, to keep them from hiding their identities. That's the case in Louisiana. The only time adults can wear masks there is during Mardi Gras.

Durham now! A Clown with a Knife Allegedly Menacing Children.

Knife-wielding 'killer clown' pursues Durham schoolchildren

A masked man with a painted face and carrying a knife jumped out on a group of children and followed them to school in the latest “killer clown” incident thought to be inspired by a craze in the US.

The pupils, aged 11 and 12, were on their way to the Hermitage academy in Chester-le-Street, County Durham, at 8.40am when they were confronted, leaving them distressed but unhurt.

Creepy clown sightings spread to Britain

Nadia Khomami
Mon 10 Oct 2016 07.44 EDT

It has been three decades since Stephen King unleashed Pennywise, his malevolent clown character in the novel It. No one is quite sure why there have been dozens of sightings across the US in recent weeks, but one thing is certain: the scary clown craze has crossed the Atlantic.

People around the UK have reported a series of sightings of people dressed as clowns frightening children, with six separate reports of “clown incidents” reported by Northumbria police in the past week.

Of course the more they are reported, more are likely to join in.

The next thing we'll be sharing is a clown injured or killed by vigilantes!

Clown sightings: Australia police 'won't tolerate' antics

7 October 2016
Australian police in Victoria have warned the public not to engage in "intimidating" behaviour after reports of clowns terrorising people in Melbourne.

Sightings of creepy clowns have sparked minor hysteria across the US since August.

People in clown masks have reportedly chased others and tried to lure children into woods.

Victoria police warned that such escapades would "not be tolerated".

In a statement on its Facebook page, which appears to have since been deleted, the force wrote: "Victoria Police are aware of people who are parading in public wearing clown masks.

"The clown purge appears to be a copycat of incidents being seen in the USA recently.

"Any intimidating and threatening as well as anti-social behaviours will not be tolerated and will be investigated by Police."

Clowns have also been spotted in Sydney, with one pictured loitering outside a fast food restaurant in the Campbelltown area.

And how long before there is a call to ban clown masks?

The truly testing time shall be Halloween itself.

Government prohibitions may be internationally-declared, via the Untied Notions, by Presently O'bama and Missus May-be. They should all join hands, in a tribute song called 'Fear the World'.

Farrage can play the jawbone of an ass, and Trump can jump Hilly (he's always wanted to, and she'd be the end of him) all in a Bowie/wowie Eightiesesque music video.

After banning clowns, The Powers That Been need to ban Porky the Pig masks, rubber cleavers, and hipster beards (too deletereous for facilitating biometric enslavement)

The other day, while waiting for the kids to get out of school, the local community matters program was on the radio. This is usually as dead boring as it sounds, but this time they were discussing the clown epidemic. One guest was a sociologist, and the other was Bee-Bop The Clown.

Bee-Bop was highly annoyed by all this creepy business, and insisted that the purpose of clowning was to bring joy to people's lives. The host suggested that the reason for scary clowns was the perversion of innocence. The sociologist pointed out that traditionally, the clown was ambiguous, a trickster character whose power lay in their unpredictable nature. He said that clowns had only come to be seen as innocent in the 50's, with Bozo and the like, which Stephen King was playing on with the Pennywise character. Which was a darn good point, if you ask me, but Bee-Bop was ticked.

Anyway, I don't know if Bee-Bop was wearing full clown regalia in the studio, but I'm really hoping so. :D

I'd be interested to know when the tradition of having clowns as children's entertainers started. I don't remember reading about clowns coming to birthday parties in any Victorian literature, though there were surely clowns touring with circuses back then.

What I really fear is a killer Pierrot.
