I've created this thread under 'Fortean Crime' as many criminals of note had death masks made after their demise. That being said, many well known people in their day not of the criminal fraternity also had death masks made of them. It's a topic I find rather interesting, to see the face of someone notorious or famous in their field, hours after their death.
Let me start with the death mask of Ned Kelly, Australia's most famous/infamous bushranger. Hanged at Old Melbourne Gaol, 11 November 1880. I took this picture myself on July 3 last year. His death mask sits in a display cabinet right next to the gallows where he met his fate.
