It was Dan Rather of CBS. The culprit was arrested for murdering another CBS employee later and Rather recognized him as the man who had attacked him while asking, "Kenneth, what is the frequency?"

A multiple hit, IMHO :)

The original version was by a band called Klaatu, who, at the time (early 70's) were rumoured to be the Beatles, re-formed and using the name of the alien visitor from 'The Day the Earth Stood Still'. (They were actually 3 Canadians)

(And, getting off the subject for a minute, in the film, Klaatu is the alien played by Michael Rennie and assisted by an eight foot tall robot - but apparently the original idea was for the robot to be the emissary Klaatu, and the humanoid to merely be his 'mouthpiece'. This, however, was judged to be too weird for 50's cinema audiences to understand/cope with!)

Some more records:

I'm the Urban Spaceman - Bonzo Dog Band
Stairway to Heaven - Led Zep
Dance with the Devil - Cosy Powell
Paranoid - Black Sabbath (wot u mean, doesn't count? is this some sort of conspiracy?)

Anytime D, I feel refreshed I thought it was just me. But do you know the strangest most fortean thing of all...every other musical genre has been revived except Prog! I don't know why but it really sucks, I have the need to by new stuff but it just ain't there.
Anyway, would "Lamb lies down on Broadway" by Genesis count? Coz a lamb lying down in the street, is especially strange...but on Broadway would be even stranger!
I would like to hear your views on that on., thanks all.
