Many years ago when I was a child about 8 years of age, I was definitely a tomboy ! I loved anything to do with Tarzan and swinging from trees
was favourite pastime ! At that time I lived near a local woodland in which I used to play "Tarzan" with some of the local lads, we used to tie ropes
from tree to tree and had a great time swinging from the branches .. On this particular occasion we all decided instead of playing on the lower level of the woods we would climb to the top of he cliff where the was an old chapel, upon arriving at the top somewhat breathless, I was delighted to see and old tree next to the chapel overhanging the cliff, it was a sheer drop to the ground around 100ft. At that age i knew no fear and immediately jumped on to the branch knowing I could easily swing back to the ground. Unfortunately one of the lads I was with decided to jump on the branch behind me. I only had one option and that was to let go.. The last thing I remember was looking up at the old stone cross on the chapel roof. It was in that moment I had an experience that has stayed with me throughout my life.
Immediately I let go of the branch time literally stood still. I became aware that everything around me was bathed in a golden glow, there was perfect peace and silence. Then I became aware of a "presence" on my right side, there was a very strong feeling of comfort. Together this "presence" and I watched, as if in slow motion, my friends running down the opposite bank shouting in panic that I would be killed. The next thing I remember was being placed gently on the ground at the foot of the cliff and my friends running up amazed that I was still alive!
I am much older now and I still live near to those woods, I have been up there many times since and looking down at the jagged cliff and sheer drop I know there is no way I should have survived but I am here to tell the tale.. In later years after getting a PC and researching online I have found out the history of the chapel which has made me even more curious as to what I actually experienced that day.
I will try and post link but not sure if it will work. https://wearesouthdevon.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/01/chapel1.png

That specific link only shows a picture of the chapel. Is there another page on the website that has the history?

Possibly St. Michael’s chapel, Torquay?

Actually, I was completely wrong.

Frustratingly, the accompanying newspaper article is headlined 'We bought a derelict chapel which everyone is convinced is haunted' but then provides no details about the alleged haunting (this is the place I mentioned a while back, which is supposedly haunted by a Black Shuck-type entity).

Not something I'd want to do. And how are gravesites dealt with? If a church is moved or closed, usually the graves are moved to another cemetery.

Occasionally, my wife tells me that she is visited by her Guardian Angel. The first visitation was the year her younger sister died. We moved house four years later and she says that since then she has seen it 10-15 times, but there were more sightings in the old address. She just mentions it casually; "My guardian angel visited me tonight" with no theatrics.
In the past she has described it as a blue light but that changed in the most recent sighting which was yesterday. (Incidentally, I've never seen it, but she does visit when I'm asleep). Now, the angel, still blue, was described as a female figure, like a statue but alive. My wife couldn't make out any more details except that it was slightly taller than her (5 foot 2-ish).
A few months ago my wife was diagnosed with a very serious medial ailment and she has said that the visitations have occurred more often. Neither of us are frightened of this.

Sorry to hear about your wife Paul. I hope everything works out for her.

Thank you. She's been off work since the start of February and goes back on May 8th. She could have died at any point.
Sounds serious.

I hope she's well over what ever it was and that you both thank her guardian angel in what ever way you can.

Maybe a small altar and an offering of fruit or something like that. I don't know what. Some type of 'thank you' simple ceremony. Just use your imagination but done with with the right intensions, I'm sure it will be accepted.

We had a case in our area where a man helped another man in a crashed car.

But the police and fire could not find a person by that description at the crash scene.

Many years ago I was in the hospital and an elderly woman help calm my wife in the waiting room.

My wife said she there and then was not there.

So I believe in angels.

There are so many similar stories that I've heard and read about over the years that I believe you.

This was many years ago but the elderly lady that comforted my wife in the waiting room while I was in the hospital was old fashioned dressed which may not mean anything, but when my wife left the waiting room she found pennies in a Coke-Cola machine which only took quarters, nickels, and dimes.

Pennies are the calling card of angels.

I just found a old 1p 2 days ago.

Thanks Brownmane, she hasn't been given the all-clear yet but seems to be doing better. She could still pass away at any time.
Oh. I didn't understand that. Your comment that she was returning to work caused me to think that she was out of the woods.

I hope everything is on the right track to recovery.

Beautiful story. This incident looks like a "Fear Death Experience".

I was recently reading a book on NDE (Near Death Experiences) by the Belgian neurologist Steven Laureys and he was pointing out that some people who undergo accidents without getting severely injured can experience phenomenons similar to NDE although their lives are not actually at stake (no coma, no loss of consciousness). He calls these "Fear Death Experiences", although "fear" is not always present. It's more a matter of stress/trauma and realizing that you are "on the verge" of sudden extinction. He himself had one such experience during a car accident. And so did I in a bumper car, when I was a small child (I took a violent shock right on the solar plexus and my breathing remained blocked as a result for what seemed to be an infinitely long moment. As I turned pale and people hurriedly took me out of the bumper car to seat me under a tree and revive me, I felt I was peacefully ascending over the panicked crowd, sad to leave my despaired and powerless mother. And suddenly, my breath came back and that was it. I was "back". I'd like to think that someone or something gave me a "second chance", saving me from a stupid death, for the sake of my mother, however, I now think this may just have been a Fear Death Experience).

When you say that you :
only had one option and that was to let go..

... it is indicative that you may have been in such a state where you knew you were somewhat "doomed". And this could have induced the "fear death experience".

Of course, the guardian angel remains an hypothesis (and a comforting one at that), especially as you landed softly enough to avoid injury, but this could be good luck as well.

I am not a hardcore skeptic. I am simply underlining a possible "rational" explanation. On the other hand, this explanation would not be able to explain out Telly Savalas' own encounter with a angel/ghost on the side of the road, decades ago, as he was certainly not in a condition to witness a Fear Death Experience when he met him.
