Cop-turned-evangelical pastor charged with dozens of sex crimes against kids

Via The Raw Story
James Worley, senior pastor at Powell Valley Church in Oregon, was arrested Dec. 30 on 37 counts – including two counts of rape, 20 counts of sexual abuse, 11 counts of sodomy, one count of attempted sodomy and three counts of using a child in a display of sexually explicit conduct.

An indictment filed Dec. 16 showed the alleged abuse took place between 2002 and 2004, when the victims were under the ages of 12 and 14 years old, reported KATU-TV.
Although these particular charges relate to a time before he became a pastor other victims are believed to exist.

Mr Worley kept a blog (since made private) which is reported to have included the following:

Former pastor at Medford church secretly videotaped woman, tried to steal hard drives, police say
from Oregon Live - The Oregonian
A former pastor at a church in Medford stands accused of secretly videotaping an adult female "in a state of undress" without her consent, Medford police said.

Donald Courtney Biggs, 36, of Jacksonville, is also suspected to have broken into the church in an attempt to steal computer hard drives, according to police. .../snip

But it began with "inapproriate texting
The Medford Police Department in November launched an investigation into "inappropriate texting" between Biggs and a 14-year-old female, officials said. He knew the girl from Mountain Church, where Biggs worked as an administrative pastor and oversaw the youth program, according to police. ... /snip

Whatever, but it seems that the investigation has opened a can of worms
Authorities said there have been more allegations that Biggs unlawfully recorded other females, some of them underage, without their consent at various Jackson County locations. The case remains under investigation.

From good Samaritan to bearer of false witness

On Thursday, Virginia pastor George Hunley told police he’d been shot and robbed after he pulled over to help another motorist. The local news was calling him a Good Samaritan. Within a day, police were calling him something else: a liar.

Nothing about Hunley’s story adds up, the investigating officers in Louisa, Virginia say. His wallet and other valuables he was supposedly robbed of were found in the car he says he drove himself home in, but the vehicle didn’t yield a single drop of fresh blood.

While the cops are so far declining to say what they think transpired and how Hunley really got his bullet wounds, they placed him under arrest and charged the pastor with making false statements to the police.

Father Anthony McSweeney breaks down over porn collection

A Catholic priest broke down in tears at his sex abuse trial as he recalled his gay and sadomasochistic pornography collection.
Father Anthony McSweeney, 68, denies molesting three teenage boys at Grafton Close children's home in Hounslow, west London, between 1979 and 1981.
But he admitted being shown a child sex porn film by his close friend, the care home manager John Stingemore.
Fr McSweeney said he did not tell the police as it "did not occur" to him.

He also confessed to going to Amsterdam's notorious red light district with Mr Stingemore, where he bought gay porn.
Mr Stingemore, 72, was found dead weeks before the beginning of his trial.

‘Cross-dressing’ priest who ‘dealt high-grade crystal meth and owned a sex shop’ asks for leniency
From Metro

I wonder if he earned enough to keep body and soul together ...

With all these priests getting locked up for this and that, there should be plenty of jobs open.
I'm an atheist, but that should be no barrier to getting a job, surely? ;) I mean, I'm an actual good person (unlike these dodgy priests).
The job comes with a uniform and free accommodation. Can't be bad.
And I may get to kick Bishop Brennan up the arse.

The job is a bit lonely without God and the free accommodation might be a let-down if you are thinking of Vatican-style rooms!

That leaves you with the Bishop's arse to do with what you will. Licking is the custom. :p

Meh. Who needs God?
I'd find a way to wangle accommodation to rival the Pope's.
And...it's spelt 'kicking'... :D

On the up side, you wouldn`t need to worry about being recognised when you go out for a pizza. ;)

I'd get called 'father' quite a lot if I went out anywhere.

A 59-year-old former hospital chaplain who paid €4,000 to three men to threaten his nephew has been sentenced to prison for four years.

The three, who said they were members of the Continuity IRA, told Niall Kelleher to drop a civil action against his uncle, Francis, or he would die.

Francis Kelleher pleaded guilty to four counts of coercion at Cork Circuit Criminal Court today.

Outlining the background to the case, Det Garda Micheal O'Regan told the court that Niall Kelleher had issued civil proceedings against his uncle in May 2012.

The chaplain later told an unnamed individual about the civil action.

This man, who used to bring a religious relic to sick people in hospital, told him he could sort it out for him saying he had contacts in the IRA. ...

A vicar who went on the run as he was convicted of pocketing £24,000 of fees intended for weddings and funerals is believed to have fled to Europe.

Simon Reynolds, of Farnham, Surrey, did not return to Sheffield Crown Court for the verdict on Thursday and a bench warrant was issued for his arrest.

South Yorkshire Police launched a manhunt, and has since said Reynolds could have fled to the continent.

He was vicar at All Saints Church in Darton when the thefts happened.

Judge Julian Goose QC said Reynolds had disappeared from court at lunchtime even though his bail rules did not allow him to leave the building.

Incense drifting through ancient cedars. Saffron-robed monks, limbs a blur of movement, making quick work of imagined enemies. The boing of a giant bronze bell calling the faithful to prayer.

This is the scene at the fabled Shaolin Temple, a cradle of kung fu and Zen Buddhism nestled in the forests of the central Chinese province of Henan, where legend has it monks have trained in martial arts for centuries. But in recent days, another sound has been wafting across its hallowed grounds: the snickering of tourists trading the latest news about the abbot of Shaolin and his reportedly less than virtuous ways.

Over the past week, much of the nation has been transfixed by salacious allegations that the famed abbot, Shi Yongxin, known as China’s C.E.O. Monk for transforming Shaolin into a global commercial empire, is a swindler and serial philanderer who secretly fathered children with two of his lovers, vows of celibacy notwithstanding.

One of Peru's main newspapers says it will not publish any more articles by Lima's Roman Catholic archbishop, Cardinal Juan Luis Cipriani.

El Comercio made the decision after it was disclosed that Cardinal Cipriani had used the writings of former popes without attributing them.

The newspaper said it had been proven that he had plagiarised Pope Benedict XVI and Pope Paul VI.

The prelate apologised to his followers for not having mentioned his sources.

"All my teachings come from the pontiffs of the Church," he said. "I would constantly have to say: as Pope so and so said..."

Cardinal Cipriani added that popes had no property rights over their words, as they were part of the heritage of the faith.

Drunken priest suspended after kicking PC and trying to bite paramedic

A priest has been suspended after he admitted assaulting a police officer and a paramedic on a drunken night out.
The Reverend Gareth Jones swore at officers and claimed he had diplomatic immunity from the Vatican when he was arrested two weeks ago.
A paramedic found him passed out in his clerical clothes, in central London.

Jones, who later said he was "deeply ashamed" about what happened, had drunk three bottles of wine, several pints of beer, gin and tonics and vodka.
Highbury Corner magistrates heard he kicked a paramedic twice in the leg before punching him and trying to bite him, on Charing Cross Road, in Covent Garden.
As police intervened, the priest from St Mary's Church in Ilford, east London, kicked an officer in the face, the court was told.
When asked which embassy would grant him diplomatic immunity, the Anglican priest said "the Vatican" and swore at officers.

Jones has previous convictions for a bomb hoax, affray, possession of cannabis, fraud, and criminal damage, now faces formal church disciplinary proceedings.
His lawyer, Dominic Hockley, told the court that Jones had consumed about 53 units of alcohol before the incident and was seeking help to deal with alcoholism.
"To say that this incident has been a wake-up call would be an understatement," he said.

In an email to the BBC after the court hearing, Jones admitted that he was an alcoholic, which he said he was now "determined" to deal with.
"I'm deeply ashamed of actions and the harm I have caused," he said. "When I was 20 I turned my life around and began a journey seeking to help people in difficulty through the ministry of the church.
"It's hard to admit you are weak and vulnerable when you are a priest, and I've hidden that away for too long."

District Judge Robin McPhee ordered Mr Jones, who admitted two assaults, to pay £700 in fines, £200 in compensation each to the policeman and the paramedic, as well as £85 prosecution costs and a £35 victim surcharge.

A tweet from Jones's account, posted on Thursday evening but subsequently deleted said: "The fire is lit."
A spokesman for the diocese of Chelmsford said: "We are deeply shocked by Mr Jones' behaviour.
"We suspended him from his duties as soon as we were notified of the incident.
"Now that the case has been concluded we have started proceedings under the terms of the Clergy Discipline Measure.
"We are holding all those affected by this serious incident in our prayers."

Sounds like he was channelling Father Jack:

But in all seriousness, church authorities should have disciplined him after his first conviction instead of waiting for him to acquire a string of them.

Canadian priest allegedly gambled away $500,000 of Syria refugee aid
Amer Saka of the Chaldean Catholic church allegedly collected money to support refugees arriving from the war-torn nation
Agence France-Presse
Saturday 16 July 2016 02.45 BST

A Canadian priest has been charged over stealing more than $500,000 intended for the resettlement of Syrian refugees, and then gambling it away.
Amer Saka, 51, a clergyman of the Chaldean Catholic church – based in Baghdad – had allegedly collected the funds from more than 20 donors to support refugees arriving from the war-torn nation, according to local police.
“This investigation spanned throughout the province of Ontario, the United States and other countries where refugees were attempting to come to Canada,” police in London, Ontario said in a statement.

Bishop Emanuel Shaleta, head of the Chaldean Catholic church in Canada, told The London Free Press that Saka had called him to say he had gambled and lost all of the money.

The priest had been involved in a sponsorship program for refugees for several years. He was suspended by the diocese of Hamilton, Ontario after police opened an investigation in February.
Saka was arrested on Wednesday and granted bail after being charged with fraud and a related possession charge. The newspaper said a court ordered Saka not to enter any casino.

More on Maynooth.

Some of these rumours, incidentally, concerned The Roost, that large public house in Maynooth village so favoured by seminarians and other students alike. A former seminarian recalled to The Irish Times this week how the drinking culture in the pubs of Maynooth had “resulted in several seminarians being barred from a public house because the staff were offended by the seminarians pretending to consecrate their drinks and bread rolls”.

Parish priest ‘prostituted his lovers and filmed sex parties’
Philip Willan, Rome
January 2 2017, 12:01am, The Times

Father Andrea Contin is said to have farmed out some of his 15 lovers to male customers on wife swapping websites
A priest in the northern Italian city of Padua has been accused of organising orgies in his rectory, acting as a pimp to some of his 15 lovers and concealing pornographic home videos in covers bearing the names of popes.

Father Andrea Contin, 48, the parish priest at the church of San Lazzaro, is under police investigation on suspicion of living off immoral earnings and psychological violence, following complaints from three of his female parishioners. A variety of sex toys and videos showing orgies taking place on the premises were also seized.

He is said to have farmed out some of his lovers to male customers on wife swapping websites. The priest is also alleged to have enjoyed lavish holidays with his female friends, including…
