An odd chap. His actions may have been due to excess cannabis use. religious mania and problems with the DSP (Irish DWP).

A major review of security at strategically important State buildings is to be carried out for the Garda Commissioner after a man used a van to ram the gates of Áras an Uachtaráin before driving 7km across Dublin city and similarly targeting the Department of Housing and Government Buildings.

The suspect had posted on social media in the hours before the incidents that he believed a Garda member was about to be killed, his intent to kill another unnamed person and a veiled threat to President Michael D Higgins.

He is suspected of crashing into the Department of Housing at Custom House Quay, which appears to have happened as he was travelling from Áras an Uachtaráin in the Phoenix Park towards Government Buildings on Merrion Street Upper.

Garda sources said there was concern about the fact the suspect was not spotted and stopped after the first incident and that he was able to drive into three different sets of gates at Government Buildings in Dublin 2 without being halted.

The man took photographs clearly depicting his Ford Transit van, with the airbag activated, having crashed into the gates of the Department of An Taoiseach and posted them on social media. It was only after these posts, which went online at about 2.30am, that he was arrested.

The suspect, aged in his 40s, was initially detained on suspicion of intoxicated driving but was later rearrested for questioning about the criminal damage incidents. Some of the man’s recent social media content featured posts of religious iconography, references to smoking cannabis and to having difficulties securing social welfare after working for 20 years.

While the Garda has ruled out any terror-related motive, and sources pointed out the suspect appeared to make no effort to enter the buildings, the distance he travelled and the number of crimes he was able to commit before his arrest was of concern.

He certainly has a few problems.

The garda said the incidents were captured on CCTV. He added that during his interviews, the accused was adamant that he did not intend to enter any government building but wanted to "carry out as much damage as he could."

Garda McCarthy said the accused had "delusional fantasies" and said he had taken his father's work van without permission at 1 am on Friday.

The court heard he told gardai he believed his family members were not real and that they had been replaced by actors, spiking him with drugs and waking him every day at 5 am with an aerosol hallucinogenic.

The court heard the accused believed members of the government, social welfare and the president were also orchestrating this and ramming the gates would "put an end to the torment he had been subjected to".

The court heard he allegedly posted the photo on social media to raise awareness of his situation.

The court heard that gardaí must obtain directions from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) about pressing more serious charges and whether the case will remain in the District Court or proceed on indictment to the Circuit Court with broader sentencing powers.

Gardaí would be looking to have it dealt with at the higher level.

There is obviously more to this than meets the eye, but this bit interests me -

having difficulties securing social welfare after working for 20 years

-as I have met a few people who have worked hard all their lives and yet when they do need a bit of help due to illness/accident, they have found it very difficult to get any help from the DWP.

This in itself is (understandably) enough to raise anger/mental health levels.

Along with paranoia, it sounds like he may suffer from Capgras delusion.

Sunday Night Spaghetti Dinner Dispute Got Very Saucy

A Sunday night spaghetti dinner turned violent when a 41-year-old man threw the pasta at his mother, striking the victim in the head with the starchy weapon and leaving her splattered with sauce, police allege.

afiacco24.jpg

Investigators say Anthony Fiacco last evening had a “verbal argument with the victim that turned physical” in the Florida home where the victim, 61, resides with the accused.

“The spaghetti made contact with the victim who had spaghetti sauce in her hair.”

Seen at right, Fiacco allegedly fled the home when officers arrived. After being spotted hiding behind a bush in the backyard, Fiacco sought to run away, but was quickly corralled by police.

Fiacco was charged with domestic battery for the spaghetti incident, as well as resisting an officer. He was booked into the county jail on the misdemeanor counts.

No weapon was seized by police and it is unclear how long the Sunday gravy had been simmering.

American woman is found chained to a tree and left to die in Indian jungle

An American woman who was chained to a tree in the Indian jungle and left for dead has been rescued after a local shepherd heard her distressing cries for help.

Lalita Kayi Kumar, 50, was found in a forest near Sonurli village, roughly 280miles from Mumbai, on Saturday morning. She had been tied to a tree with an iron chain.

Kumar, whose right leg was swollen from the chain, was rushed to a nearby hospital in critical condition. She was severely dehydrated, unable to speak and likely had not eaten in several days.

It is unclear how long Kumar was in the jungle, as the area experienced heavy rains recently, but according to India TV, she told investigators that her former husband had tied her to the tree. She also claimed to have gone 40 days without food.

Police have launched an attempted murder case against Kumar's ex-husband. He also faces act endangering life or personal safety of others and wrongful confinement charges.

Curiouser and curiouser.

An American woman who was found chained to a tree "screaming" in a forest in the western Indian state of Maharashtra had shackled herself, police and her doctor have told the BBC.

Lalita Kayi, 50, was rescued about 10 days ago from the dense forests of Sindhudurg district after her cries for help were heard by shepherds.
In a written statement to the police, she had alleged that her husband "chained her and left her in the forest to die without food or water".

Ms Kayi, who is receiving treatment in a psychiatric facility, has not spoken publicly. The US embassy has also refused to comment, citing her right to privacy.

Ms Kayi’s discovery had shocked India and police had constituted several teams to investigate how she came to be in the forest.

Saurabh Agarwal, superintendent of police for Sindhudurg, told BBC Marathi on Tuesday that Ms Kayi had now said that she was not married and that she was probably suffering from hallucinations when she gave her first statement.

Police said she told them she had been distressed because her visa had run out and she was running out of money, so she had bought locks and chains and tied herself to the tree.

The reporting is somewhat confusing.

In the original article posted by Max, it stated, "Police have launched an attempted murder case against Kumar's ex-husband. He also faces act endangering life or personal safety of others and wrongful confinement charges."

Now she is saying that she was never married.

So how was there an attempted murder case launched? Was there ever a person the police found to launch a case against?

The reports certainly make little sense. Though the original source, DailyM*il is not known for reliable reporting.:dunno:

Man hid explosives in unisex toilets

At two different car-washes then set them off when women inside.

All injuries in the incidents were minor.

Investigators discovered parts from small commercial fireworks that are made to detonate upon applying pressure. A similar setup was found at the Helotes car wash.
Alden was arrested and has been charged with arson causing bodily injury or reckless damage.

There’s a joke there probably.

Prisoners from Rýnovice also used ping-pong bats to smuggle drugs. These were used under the pretext of a tournament

Prisoners from Rýnovice in Jablonec nad Nisou have their drugs sent to them by relatives or friends under a postage stamp or soaked in paper. Prison service workers found them hidden in the handles of ping-pong paddles during the drug pandemic, Roman Šípek, the prison's chief prevention officer, told reporters on Thursday.

According to Roman Šípek, the prisoners had bats sent to the prison under the pretext of organizing a ping-pong tournament. "Of course, after a while we started to find it strange that 10 or 15 of them were coming," Šípek said. Thanks to X-rays, he said, they then found a stash inside the handles that could hold four grams of meth.

"The only thing that was visually noticeable on the handle of the bat was a gap that you wouldn't notice with the ordinary eye unless you wanted to focus on it," Šípek added.

The case has been concluded. The kidnapper has been found guilty and sentenced to 16 years and 9 months.

Now there's a drama series about it.

Model Chloe Ayling was kidnapped after being lured to a fake photo shoot in Milan. She was released six days later, but her ordeal was far from over - seven years on, she is still being called a liar.

"Headlines really stick in people's minds, even years later," Ms Ayling tells the BBC, explaining that she still receives online abuse from people questioning her account.

Her story is being told in a new six-part BBC series, Kidnapped: The Chloe Ayling Story. The series, which follows Chloe's experience being kidnapped and the media storm that followed, is based on police interviews, court transcripts and personal accounts - with some scenes created for dramatic purposes.

Ms Ayling faced years of doubts about her ordeal with people accusing her of faking her abduction, profiting from it and being involved in a publicity stunt.

But she's since worked with the drama's writer Georgia Lester and producers to tell her story.

"All I wanted was [the] facts to be laid out and everyone to know what actually happened," Ms Ayling says.

She hopes her experience will help others. "This should be a lesson for people not to judge victims based on the way they act or react," she adds. ...

You can watch Kidnapped: The Chloe Ayling Story on BBC iPlayer on Wednesday 14 August.

If anyone else did that they would have been arrested not just suspended,

A Detroit judge has been temporarily taken off the bench after he forced a 15-year-old girl to wear handcuffs and a jail uniform because she appeared to fall asleep during a field trip to his court.

District Court Judge Kenneth King said he did not like Eva Goodman's "attitude" and said he wanted to show her "how you are to conduct yourself in a courtroom".

The teenager was visiting the 36th District Court for a trip organised by the environmental charity The Greening, whose other excursions include kayaking and bird-watching.

On Thursday, the chief judge of the 36th District Court, William McConico, said in a statement that he had conducted a "swift and thorough internal investigation" of the incident and decided to temporarily take Mr King off his cases to undergo "necessary training".

“We sincerely hope that this incident does not undermine our longstanding relationships with local schools,” Judge McConio said.

The girl's mother, Latoreya Hill, told local news: "Would you want someone to treat your child like that? To belittle her in front of the whole world and her friends, to make her feel even more worse about her situation."

Rome burglar caught after stopping to read book

A burglar who broke into an apartment in Rome on Tuesday night was arrested after stopping in the middle of the robbery to read a book about Greek mythology.

The man, a 38-year-old Italian, gained access to the building in the Della Vittoria district from the balcony but became distracted after seeing a book on a bedside table.

However the owner of the property, a 71-year-old man, woke up and confronted the burglar who was reportedly sitting on a bed absorbed in the book.

The burglar then tried to escape from the same balcony but was arrested by police who arrived after being called by the owner.

Police found the man in possession of a bag of designer clothers, likely stolen earlier that night from another house.

The book in question, according to news outlet RomaToday, was Gli Dei alle sei. L'Iliade all'ora dell'aperitivo by Giovanni Nucci who examines The Iliad from the point of view of the gods while highlighting the interpretative power of the epic work to understand current events.

Man accused of decapitating parents sang Tina Turner after being shot by deputies

A 41-year-old man accused of decapitating his parents and killing their dog started to sing Tina Turner's "What's Love Got to Do With It" after he was shot by an Orange County sheriff's deputy.

Joseph Brandon Gerdvil was arrested on suspicion of killing his parents, 77-year-old Ronald Walter Gerdvil and 79-year-old Antoinette Gerdvil, in their San Juan Capistrano home on July 9, according to the Orange County Sheriff's Department.

In body camera video of the incident released Friday, a blood-soaked Gerdvil is shown with a metal object in his hand approaching a sheriff's deputy moments before he is shot, then swearing and singing after he's on the ground wounded.

Authorities say the series of disturbing events began with Gerdvil text messaging photos of his bloodied mother to a cousin.

That relative called 911 around 7:30 a.m. to report a possible domestic assault on their elderly relatives who live in a mobile home community in the 32000 block of Alipaz Street, authorities said. She told dispatchers her cousin suffers from mental health issues and had been violent in the past.

Another dispatcher, meanwhile, received a 911 call from a maintenance worker at the same mobile home community who reported they were being chased by a bloodied man with a fork, authorities said.

The bloodied man, later identified as Gerdvil, drove off in the maintenance worker's golf cart in an unknown direction.

Sheriff's deputies who arrived at the scene found a person on the ground bleeding and a gruesome scene inside Gerdvil's parents' home.

"There's a head on the counter," one of the deputies on scene told dispatchers.

Gerdvil reappeared on a bike path a short time later and then approached a Sheriff's Department community service officer as she sat in her vehicle, according to authorities. He then threw a shovel at the officer's vehicle and drove off in the golf cart.

Body camera footage shows what happened next: A blood-soaked Gerdvil parked the golf cart on the sidewalk and approached a deputy while carrying a metal object.

He ignored the deputy's orders and shouted something unintelligible before the deputy fired five times and Gerdvil fell to the ground.

"F— you," Gerdvil said as he lay on the ground wounded.

Gerdvil was booked on suspicion of two counts of homicide and remains at the hospital, according to authorities.

Doctor Busted For Bizarre Urine Antics

Meet Dr. Giovanni Baula.

gbaulamugg24.jpg

The 59-year-old internist sold his Florida medical practice in 2022 to a fellow doctor. In recent months, Baula reportedly “became upset...over the business” with the purchaser, Dr. Dylan Dinesh, 32, who runs Affiliated Health Clinics out of Baula’s former office in St. Petersburg.

Investigators allege that Baula went to Dinesh’s office on July 30 and soaked the front doors “in gallons of fluid, which had the odor of urine.” On August 17, Baula allegedly returned to the property and again unleashed a cascade of the rank-smelling liquid.

On both occasions, cops say, Baula and his vehicle were recorded by surveillance cameras.

The urine-smelling liquid “soaked into the front wooden doors, causing irreparable damage.” Replacing the door will cost $1500, according to an arrest affidavit, which reports that the medical practice suffered $6000 in other losses related to the urine attacks.

Pictured above, Baula was arrested yesterday and charged with a felony count of criminal mischief. He was released from custody last night after posting a $5000 cash bond.

A street performer blew bubbles in a park. Officials cited him for littering.

https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/us/ar-AA1pJqlE
---------------------------
Blowing bubbles is illegal in San Diego — or at least it was early Saturday evening at a public park in one of the city’s wealthiest neighborhoods.

Sandy Snakenberg who’s been performing as “the Bubble Pirate” for about a decade, was making desk-sized bubbles for children at 5:15 p.m. when two San Diego Parks and Recreation rangers approached and threatened to write him a citation for littering if he didn’t stop.

Snakenberg protested, saying that most of his bubbles evaporated when they popped, and the droplets that fell to the ground were harmless. One of the rangers, Roberto Bejar, disagreed.

“It’s littering in bubble form,” Bejar said, according to a video Snakenberg took of the encounter and shared with The Washington Post.

Snakenberg, 63, kept performing as about a dozen children shrieked and ran around the park near La Jolla Cove trying to pop the cascading stream of bubbles Snakenberg unleashed. And Bejar made good on his promise, returning a half-hour later to write Snakenberg a ticket for “littering prohibited fluid.” Snakenberg’s citation comes in the middle of a years-long effort by San Diego leaders to comply with a state law allowing street vendors to do business in public, while not letting them overrun the city’s most popular tourist destinations.

Frenchman On Trial For Recruiting Strangers To Rape Drugged Wife

A French pensioner went on trial Monday on charges of allowing scores of strangers to rape his wife after he drugged her, in a case that has horrified the country.

Fifty men, recruited online, are also being tried in the southern city of Avignon alongside the main suspect, a 71-year-old former employee at France's state-owned power utility company EDF.

Police counted a total of 92 rapes committed by 72 men, 51 of whom were identified.

The men, aged between 26 and 74, are accused of raping the 72-year-old woman who, her lawyers say, was so heavily sedated she was not aware of the abuse that went on for a decade.

Police began to investigate the defendant, Dominique P., in September 2020 when he was caught by a security guard secretly filming under the skirts of three women in a shopping centre.

Police said they found hundreds of pictures and videos of his wife on his computer, visibly unconscious and mostly in the foetal position.

The images are alleged to show dozens of rapes in the couple's home in Mazan, a village of 6,000 people around 33 kilometres (21 miles) from Avignon in Provence.

Investigators also found chats on a site called coco.fr, since shut down by police, in which he recruited strangers to come to their home and have intercourse with his wife.

Dominique P. admitted to investigators that he gave his wife powerful tranquilisers, especially Temesta, an anxiety-reducing drug.
