Strange Crimes

One of three women attacked by a teenager said her "whole body went into panic" after she saw blood and realised she had been stabbed.

Ben Moynihan, 18, admits wounding three women in Portsmouth last summer but denies attempted murder.

A jury at Winchester Crown Court was played a police interview with Katie Hay, 20, in which she said she "thought she had been punched". The incident happened in June in Southampton Road. Ms Hay said a man was walking "too close" as she was walking along while texting on her mobile phone. She said he turned and she felt a bang to her chest. Initially she thought he had punched her but as he ran off he waved what looked like a kitchen knife.

She said she realised she was bleeding and her "whole body went into panic". ...

A 21-year-old Norwegian man was fined 10,000 crowns ($1,300) for fraud because he accepted a contract killing job without intending to carry it out, police told Reuters

The man agreed to take cash to kill a 17-year-old youth, but authorities could not prove any intent to complete the task, so he could only be charged with defrauding his client, police said, confirming a report in local newspaper Varden.

The man accepted the charge and paid the fine, police added.

Another 21-year-old, who ordered the killing, was sentenced to two years in prison but most of the sentence was suspended after he confessed, saying the teenager he wanted killed had rejected his romantic advances.

He claims to have paid 60,000 crowns for the job but the other man said he received only 40,000 crowns, Varden said.

Car deliberately driven into council offices as three major fires reported in South Oxfordshire
Man arrested as fire crews in Oxfordshire tackle three major blazes in South Oxfordshire, which all began within minutes of each other

A council office in Oxforshire has been devastated by fire after witnesses reported a car being driven into the foyer in a suspected arson attack.
Two other major fires have been tackled a short distance away in what police suspect are linked incidents.
A 47-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the fires.

The biggest blaze appeared to have destroyed much of the headquarters of South Oxfordshire District Council in the village of Crowmarsh Gifford, near Wallingford. The building is shared with Vale of White Horse District Council. Karl Mitchell-Shead, an eyewitness, told the BBC that he could see a car in the foyer of the building, which appeared to have been deliberately driven in. Thames Valley Police confirmed a vehicle had "collided" with the building.
Witnesses reported gas canisters exploding at the site, raising the possibility that they may have been in the car to turn it into a bomb.
Police said they did not believe the fires were terrorist-related.

The other fires, at a thatched cottage and a funeral parlour, were reported within nine minutes of the first blaze.

Surprisingly, this happened in the English county of Cambridgeshire.

Man Shot Friend Dead Testing 'Bulletproof Vest'

Defence barrister Mark McDonald said: "(Mr Harper) was very proud of it. He'd gone to the pub that evening wearing that vest and indeed a SWAT cap.

"After a drink or so, he asked more people, and Mr Catley agreed to do a stupid and undoubtedly reckless act."

Prosecutor Martin Mulgrew said the vest actually had a plastic casing that funnelled the shotgun spray into the centre of Mr Harper's chest, slicing an artery.

Despite Catley's desperate attempts to save his friend's life in the Melbourn field before driving him to hospital, Mr Harper could not be saved.

This could go any of into several threads but I feel that this one is most suitable.Wouldn't want to treat such a tragedy flippantly.

A New Jersey woman who prosecutors say put her newborn baby in the middle of the road and set the child on fire has been charged with murder.

Burlington County prosecutors say 22-year-old Hyphernkemberly Dorvilier was jailed on Saturday on $500,000 bail. It was not known if she had retained a lawyer.

Police responded to a Friday night call about a fire in the middle of a residential road in Pembertown Township, about 30 miles east of Philadelphia. Officers found the baby in flames and put out the fire. The child was taken to a hospital, where she died about two hours later.

This woman should be Blood Eagled as punishment.

Worth reading the whole thing, the situation there seems to have been bonkers:

The ex-husband of a woman accused of murdering their eight-year-old daughter has said his wife was possessed by her lesbian lover, a court has heard.

Afsar Ali told the Old Bailey he was happily married to Polly Chowdhury before their neighbour Kiki Muddar moved into their home.

Ms Muddar, 43, and Ms Chowdhury, 35, are accused of murdering Ayesha Ali at a block of flats in Chadwell Heath, east London, on 29 August 2013.

Both women deny the charges.

Mr Ali's daughter, Ayesha, was found dead in her bedroom at the flat with more than 50 injuries to her body, including carpet burns and a bite mark on her shoulder, jurors were told.

The court heard how Ms Muddar and Ms Chowdhury developed a relationship through fictional characters called Jimmy Chowdhury and Skyman, who only existed on Facebook and text messages.

Home repairs

USA:

A man demolished his home in upstate New York without telling his wife he planned to tear it down, according to police.

When officers arrived at the property owned by 48-year-old James Rhein’s wife they found him knocking down the house. He did not remove any household items, such as furniture, food, and belongings and instead dumped everything into large construction bins.

Rhein told police he was demolishing the house because it had a bad foundation. He was charged with criminal mischief and was released on bail.

God and aliens

USA:

A couple who broke into a theme park that was closed for the off-season near the South Carolina-North Carolina line have said God and aliens led them there.

York County sheriff’s deputies said Francis Greene and Jason Lee were arrested after a security officer at the Carowinds theme park found their truck abandoned in the parking lot. The officer also found an 8-month-old boy alone in the truck.

The guard said the couple returned to the truck 20 minutes after leaving it.

They were charged with child neglect and trespassing and the baby was taken into protective custody.

Man accused of double pensioner murder found dead in prison cell

A 33-year-old man accused of murdering two pensioners has been found dead in his prison cell, police say.
Leo Barnes from Balsall Heath, was found hanging at HMP Hewell in Redditch on Sunday morning, according to West Midlands Police.
He was on trial over the deaths of Cynthia Beamond, 80, and Philip Silverstone, 67.

Police are investigating after the discovery by prison staff of Barnes' body, but do not believe the circumstances to be suspicious. A jury at Wolverhampton Crown Court was last week told that Barnes had bludgeoned grandmother Beamond to death in Halesowen, before beating Silverstone with a car jack at his London apartment.
He was arrested on suspicion of murder shortly after, and a few hours later Beamond's body was found hidden under items stored in her garage.
Barnes was due to be cross-examined on Friday but had not appeared in court after complaining of illness.
Beamond's daughter has said her family was "devastated" that the man they believed responsible for their mother's murder would not "face justice".

She is missed by everyone who knew her and her loss has left a huge void. Our lives have been devastated and changed forever. As a family we are now suffering our own life sentence.

A woman has admitted putting down homemade stinger devices that damaged the tyres of three police vehicles near Bristol.
Emma Sheppard, 33, faced three charges of conspiring to commit criminal damage, reckless to endanger life, following the incident in December.
Sheppard, of no fixed abode, was warned by judge Martin Picton at Bristol Crown Court that she faced jail.
She was remanded in custody and will sentenced on 24 February.

Avon and Somerset Police said: "Emma Sheppard placed these purpose-built devices in the road, knowing full well what the consequences could be.
"They posed a serious risk to our police officers as well as other road users and formed part of a reckless and dangerous plan."

A Pennsylvania woman has been ordered to stand trial on charges she stole a police car and led officers on a chase at speeds of up to 80 miles per hour while still handcuffed.

Center Township police said 27-year-old Roxanne Rimer was arrested after stealing earrings from a Kohl's store on 14 January. Officers handcuffed her and put her in the back seat of the police vehicle.
Police said they believe she then squeezed through an opening in the partition between front and back seats that was not latched and crawled into the front seat before zooming off.

How did he think he could get away with that?

A six-year-old boy’s mother, grandmother, and aunt have been charged after officials said that they staged his kidnapping to teach him about possible danger from strangers.

The sheriff’s office in Lincoln County, Missouri, said the three enlisted help from the aunt’s co-worker, who lured the child into his truck after he got off a school bus. Officials said the man told the boy he would not “see his mummy again”, and that he would be “nailed to the wall of a shed”, reported the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. He showed the boy a handgun in an effort to make him stop crying, authorities said.

The man tied the boy’s hands and feet with plastic bags and blindfolded him, the sheriff’s office said, before he drove him to his home. ...
