Swastikas & Disputes About The Swastika Symbol

I recall the legend concerning the music group Ace of Base. It was considered that they were neo-nazis because, right, if you reverse their name to say Base of Ace, there's a link to the giant German WW2 submarine base at St. Nazare because it was once called the Base of Aces, see?
Like it or not, historically correct or not, most people now associate the swastika with Nazism. And everyone knows of the horrors of Nazism. You aint going to reverse that association. It's not a matter of being 'liberal' or openminded. That association - created by Hitler and the Nazis - is here to stay. Sad but true.

Yup, exactly. :nods:

#RuinedForever

Understandable that people feel that way.... but... I'm not going to support it because I know it's wrong. Why treat THAT use as more important than any other?

What I still wonder is if this particular symbol used by the Reich got chosen for being the subject of witch hunts solely because it was on their flag? No one cares if you have a black eagle statue in your house at all. "but those are common and ordinary!" Until they got used for the same purpose this did by the same people....

:chuckle:

You do you, Marhawkman. You can't expect others to comply though. It might not be right but there you go. Life sucks.

*sigh*
No one expects it. It just is. If the symbol has become distasteful but not illegal then you can't expect them to behave in another way.
It's called society, y'see; many different elements in a whole. If you're outvoted then so be it.

It's a religious symbol for many. They are also part of. society

Sheetal Deo was shocked when she got a letter from her Queens apartment building’s co-op board calling her Diwali decoration “offensive” and demanding she take it down.

“My decoration said ‘Happy Diwali’ and had a swastika on it,” said Deo, a physician, who was celebrating the Hindu festival of lights.

The equilateral cross with its legs bent at right angles is a millennia-old sacred symbol in Hinduism, Buddhism and Jainism that represents peace and good fortune, and was also used widely by Indigenous people worldwide in a similar vei

But in the West, this symbol is often equated to Adolf Hitler’s hakenkreuz or the hooked cross – a symbol of hate that evokes the trauma of the Holocaust and the horrors of Nazi Germany. White supremacists, neo-Nazi groups and vandals have continued to use Hitler’s symbol to stoke fear and hate.

Over the past decade, as the Asian diaspora has grown in North America, the call to reclaim the swastika as a sacred symbol has become louder. These minority faith communities are being joined by Native American elders whose ancestors have long used the symbol as part of healing rituals.

Deo believes she and people of other faiths should not have to sacrifice or apologize for a sacred symbol simply because it is often conflated with its tainted version.

“To me, that’s intolerable,” she said.

It's not just Asian faiths. The Finns used to revere the swastika, for example. But it is also true it is hard to look beyond the Nazi use of the symbol, while agreeing that eagles were just as much part of their symbiology. At least there doesn't need to be any argument over the SS runes.

There are many Swastikas decorating the outside of India house in the Aldwych, London. They are on emblems and on friezes. I believe India House was in place before the rise of the Nazi Party and their misuse of Runic script.

The Reich CHOSE that symbol because it was traditionally considered a symbol of "good luck" in Europe. And quite common before WW2.
